Alarak is one of my favorite characters in the Legacy of the void campaign, and one of the scenes that had a big impact on me was his fight with Vorazun, where he breaks out of a stasis chamber with just sheer force of will, and well... psionic force. This, and the stun, meta was the inspiration behind his trait. I wanted to make an anti-crowd control warrior. A character that just hates being controlled, but demands to control the movement of others to his advantage.
I wanted Alarak to have annoying sticking power in place of damage. So he has Deadly Charge, as his Q with a taunt to force characters to focus him, and prevent them from running. He has Psionic Orb as his damage and wave clear ability. And he has Chain of Fate. A tether on his auto attacks that basically makes him and his target play tug of war pushing and pulling, without interrupting his auto attacks on the target. It also synergizes really well with his charge, and makes him able to focus on singling out a target.
I wanted Destruction Waveto be a heroic ability when I made the concept, because it had such a powerful area in the game, and I thought if it was a basic ability the area would have to be toned down a lot. Destuction Wavelets Alarak interrupt abilities like Mosh pit, Hammer's seige mode. In the right situation it can steal a boss camp, and it basically resets team fights.
And I had to get Rak'shir into the concept somehow. Ring of Rak'shir lets Alarak single out a target even more than he already does. He can isolate low health characters, challenge them to a duel, and focus them down.
Because most of his kit is focused on being annoying and sticking to a target, most of his sustain, and team synergy abilities come from his talents.
Talent Concepts
Level 1 Bloodshard Shield:
F.A.Q.
Q: How does Psionic Orb work? A: Psionic Orb travels in front of Alarak and attacks anything to the side of it. Kind of like Thrall's sundering.
Q: How does Storming Path work? A: Storming path leaves a trail behind the Psionic orb that burns the area the orb traveled for a couple seconds.
Q: How does Chain of Fate work? A: Alarak links himself with a beam to the character he auto attacks. The animation looks a lot like Tassadar's auto attacks when he takes Disruption beam. While linked his auto attacks are channeled through the beam, and as both characters move they push and pull against each other. If a character has more movement speed than the other they pull harder. While taunted with Deadly Charge the target can't move backward, since they must face your direction.
Q: Is there any way to disrupt Chain of Fate? A: Knocking back Alarak will cause you to be pulled in the direction he was knocked back. Stunning him or silencing him will cause the chain beam to break during the instant he is stunned.
Q: Can Chain of Fate be canceled? A: Sure! Just tap the E key again, and you'll cancel the link.
Q: Why doesn't Destructive Wave knockback characters who are effected by Chain of Fate? A: It gives the abilities synergy. It allows Alarak to isolate a character. Also I was afraid if it didn't he'd knock himself back with the enemy team. Which while funny is probably not good design-wise.
Q: How does Above the Crowd interact with Stasis. A: For things like Void Prism, and Cocoon it would just instantly break him out of it. So he could walk into a void prism to trigger his trait and cancel it. With Maw I'm debating whether or not he'd break it or if the maw would just push him out because of obstacle detection. For divine palm it just wouldn't break stasis, to prevent bugs. And also because why would he want to break free from that?
i didnt get the 2nd ult, how long does it last and what does it do besides locking in the target and alarak, and is he melee of range the W is says he is range but he is melee?
