Baron Kazum

Mountain Giant

I liked the idea of a mountain giant hero, and came up with this. This is a tanky hero with quite a bit of peel potential, but very little damage.

As in all of my hero ideas, the numbers are arbitrary - only given to create a sense of scale. Concepts are immune to notions of imbalance, as numbers can always be tweaked. The skills themselves are pretty bland (they sort-of have to be). Most of the work I do when inventing a hero is in the talents - I always strive for 'absolute synergy': i.e. any possible random selection of talents is still going to be powerful. Of course, that can't always happen, but I still try.

Combat Trait

Chunky
Kazum does not use mana but can use chunks of himself as dangerous weapons. Taking damage from enemy towers assimilates the ammunition as more chunks. Starts with 50, can hold up to 100. Kazum's maximum health is increased by 1% for each chunk. At 100 chunks Kazum no longer takes damage from enemy towers.

Primary Abilities

Boulder Toss
Toss a chunk of Kazum's body at a target location, doing moderate damage. Costs 1 chunk, but the chunk can be retrieved for up to 3 seconds.

Rockslide
Drop up to 20 chunks around Kazum over 4 seconds. Enemies hit take light damage and are slowed by 5% for 0.25 seconds. Consecutive hits refresh the duration and stack the slow amount, up to 20%. Chunks can be retrieved for up to 3 seconds.

Pummel
Deals light damage to a target. Damage amount is increased by 1% for each chunk in Kazum's possession.

Heroic Abilities

Taunt
Causes all nearby enemies to stop what they are doing and attack Kazum with basic attacks. 20 second cooldown.

War Club
Pick up a nearby enemy and wield them as a weapon for 4 seconds. They receive damage equal to the amount of damage delivered by Kazuk by basic attacks, but are otherwise invulnerable.

Special Mount

Juggernaut
Kazum can not mount, but his movement speed is increased by 1% for each second he spends running in the same direction. Max of 35%

Level 1 Talents

  • Trebuchet - Boulder Toss does 150% increased damage to non heroic units.
  • Reload - Target allied structures with your trait to replenish 10 ammo at the cost of 10 chunks. 45 second cooldown.
  • Rocks don't bleed - Damage over time effects are also reduced by 0.5% for each chunk.

Level 4 Talents

  • Pebbles - Ranged basic attacks against Kazum also grant 0.5 chunks.
  • Rock Garden - Passively generate 1 chunk every 5 seconds.
  • Hard Core - Increases max chunks by 50 and Kazum can no longer fall below 25 chunks (i.e. chunky spells are cast for free at 25 stacks).

Level 7 Talents

  • Rolling Stones - Increases area of rockslide and the time chunks used in rockslide can be recovered by 100%.
  • Top Heavy - You can hold 10 chunks above maximum. When at 10 above maximum, being hit by a basic melee attack gives you 2 seconds that you can cast rockslide with no cooldown, but the allowable recovery time for these chunks is reduced by 50%.
  • Intimidating Fists - Hitting an enemy with Pummel reduces their basic attack damage by 90%, diminishing gradually over 3 seconds.

Level 13 Talents

  • Pieces of Me - Movement speed increased by 30% when moving towards a chunk launched with Boulder Toss
  • Easy Come Easy Go - Each accumulated chunk reduces the cooldown of Boulder Toss by 1 second
  • Fist of a Mountain - Pummel affects all nearby enemies.

Level 16 Talents

  • Stone Mallet - Your pummel roots the target for 1 second
  • Foothills - The chunks from rockslide become impassable to anyone but Kazum for 50% of their recoverable duration.
  • Mud Slide - Your Rock Slide slow duration also stacks up to 4 seconds.

Level 20 Talents

  • Wide Target - Increases area in which enemies are taunted by 50% and forces them to land at least one basic attack before they can disengage.
  • Dual Wield - Kazum can now pick up up to two enemy heroes and passively has 50% increased attack speed.
  • Fall of the Mighty (active) - Expend all chunks instantly doing moderate damage to all enemies in a large cone in front of you. These chunks can not be recovered. 30 second cooldown.
  • Stone Armor (active) - Consume up to 50 chunks to reduce damage taken by 2% per chunk for 6 seconds. 45 second cooldown.
  • Mountain Time - Map objectives near Kazum take allies 50% less time and enemies 50% more time to capture, hire, or turn in.
