MEKA Pilot

This hero concept is complete! I am open to suggestions as far as refining the balance of this hero.

D.Va is a former Starcraft player who was at the top of her game, with tons of followers on her streams. However, the events of the Omnic Crisis forced the Korean Army to begin recruiting their top Korean gamers to operate their new MEKA units in defense against the omnics. Viewing this new challenge as a game, D.Va has taken on the challenge happily, streaming her battles to her followers and entering the fray without fear.

D.Va is a hero who is, in some ways, difficult to differentiate from Reinhardt when it comes to traditional HotS mechanics. Both share the idea of a forward covering shield and rocket boosters. To that end, I designed her as a hero who lacks a formal mount, using her Boosters as a supplement for this. I've also made sure to design her Defense Matrix to work differently than Reinhardt's shields, though it still carries the same general idea of blocking incoming basic attacks and skill shots. In essence, my goal was to make D.Va into a hero that is true to her kit in Overwatch, but functions differently enough from Reinhardt that they could both be added to the game.

Hero Type: Ranged Warrior
Difficulty: Medium

Pros:
  • Much like in Overwatch, D.Va's MEKA health is low, but when combined with the health of her pilot form, she has more overall HP than any other warrior in the game.
  • D.Va's basic attack is low, but she can move while firing, and her alternate fire mode makes for respectable and reliable wave-clear.
  • D.Va's boosters allow her to gap close on a fleeing target, or to peel for an ally by pushing back a pursuing target. In addition, her Bunny Hop heroic can help her compensate for her general lack of mobility, or allow her to jump into the enemy team's back line.
  • D.Va's Defense Matrix provides a unique means of protecting her allies from incoming damage with clever positioning that is not yet present in Heroes of the Storm.
  • D.Va's Self-Destruct can be used not only to kill heroes, but also as general area denial, and the fact that it can be aimed using her Boosters makes it even more effective at this.

Cons:
  • D.Va's lack of a mount means that her mobility will be limited on larger maps when she doesn't select Bunny Hop as her heroic.
  • D.Va's low attack damage in MEKA form and general lack of movement speed will make it more difficult for her to finish off targets that are actively fleeing from her.
  • D.Va's lower health in MEKA form makes it harder for her to play as a solo tank in an organized team setting.
  • D.Va is extremely vulnerable outside of her MEKA. She loses access to her basic abilities and she also loses access to her mount ability, which further restricts her mobility. Because of this, D.Va is in serious risk of death once her MEKA is destroyed, and will usually be forced to flee from direct combat.

Note: All figures shown on this hero concept page are listed at their baseline figures (Lvl 0).

Health: 2200 HP (+4%) in MEKA form, 700 HP (+4%) in pilot form
Health Regen: 4.55 HP per second (+4%) in MEKA form, 6 HP per second (+4%) in pilot form

Attack Damage: 18 (+4%) in MEKA form, 40 (+4%) in pilot form
Attack Speed: 5.0 in MEKA form, 3.0 in pilot form

Combat Trait

MEKA Activated! (D)
When D.Va's MEKA loses all of its HP, D.Va is ejected from it and obtains the stats above. She loses access to all of her abilities (including her Z) during this time.

This trait then displays a percentage-based counter which indicates how long it will be until D.Va can re-activate her MEKA. She gains 1% to the counter per second, as well as 1.5% for every successfully landed hit from her pilot form's basic attack. When she reaches 100%, she can activate her trait (D) to re-enter her MEKA with full HP. It takes her 2 seconds to enter her MEKA, and she takes damage as normal during this time.

Primary Abilities

Fusion Cannon / Scatter Cannon (Q)
Cooldown: 10 seconds

This ability alternates between two modes of fire. Her Fusion Cannons deal single-target damage and allow her to walk while firing. Her Scatter Cannon reduces her movement speed to 50% and deals only 33% of her basic attack damage, but changes her basic attacks to fire at all targets in a small AoE cone in front of her.

Defense Matrix (W)

D.Va raises a visible cone-shaped shield in front of her MEKA for X seconds, where X is the number of charges that D.Va currently has. D.Va can still move while this ability is active. Any basic attacks or abilities fired at her from her forward arc is negated for the duration of the shield's effect. Basic attacks and abilities fired at the rear of D.Va's MEKA or on either flank will still inflict damage as normal.

This ability can be deactivated early by pressing the W key again.

Bunny Punch (E)
Cooldown: 20 seconds

D.Va hits a target in melee range with one of the MEKA's cannon arms, dealing 100 (+4%) damage and inflicting a 1 second stun on the target.

Heroic Abilities

Self-Destruct (R)
Cooldown: 120 seconds

D.Va sets her MEKA to self-destruct and leaps backwards out of it. After a 3 second delay, it deals 700 (+4%) damage to enemy Heroes in a wide area so long as there is line of sight between the MEKA's location and the enemy Hero. Hiding behind terrain obstacles, fort/keep walls, or gates will protect the enemy Hero from damage. D.Va gets an instant 100% towards her trait counter.

If activated while D.Va is using her Boosters, the MEKA will continue to travel in the direction that D.Va was last facing for the remaining duration of her Boosters, or until the 3 second delay has completed, whichever comes first.

Bunny Hop! (R)
Cooldown: 60 seconds

D.Va quickly leaps to a target location, dealing 200 (+4%) damage to all enemies near the point of impact. Enemy minions, mercenaries, and Heroes are knocked back from the point of impact and stunned for 0.5 seconds.

Ability Type: Circular AoE surrounding the user
Ability Range: 4

Special Mount

Boosters (Z)
Cooldown: 45 seconds

D.Va normally has 100% movement speed. She can activate her Boosters to increase her movement speed by 40% for 4 seconds. She can push enemy Heroes around while Boosters are active.

While D.Va is in her pilot form, she has 100% movement speed. Her Boosters are disabled.

Talents

Level 1:

  • Kiting - Identical to the "Block" talent on other heroes.
  • Nanite Regeneration - Identical to the "Regeneration Master" talent on other heroes.
  • Black Sheep Wall - Activate to increase D.Va's vision range by 200% for 3 seconds. Can only be used once every 60 seconds.
  • Let's Shoot for a New High Score! (Q) - Quest: Killing minions with Scatter Cannon permanently increases basic attack damage by 0.1 per kill. Hero Takedowns increase basic attack damage by 0.25 per kill. D.Va only gains the benefit of this bonus damage while in MEKA form. Reward: Each time D.Va reaches 10 bonus attack damage, she receives an additional 2 attack damage.

Level 4:

  • Fully Operational! - Identical to the "Amplified Healing" talent on other heroes.
  • Time to Raise My APM (W) - Quest: Block 10000 incoming damage with Defense Matrix. Reward: Charges will refresh 1 second faster.
  • L2P (E) - Quest: Hit 20 enemy Heroes with Bunny Punch. Reward: Bunny Punch will slow the targeted enemy Hero's movement speed by 20% for 3 seconds.

Level 7:

  • Heals Plz! - D.Va gains twice as much healing from Regeneration Globes while in pilot form.
  • Concentrated Fire (Q) - D.Va's Fusion Cannons have 20% increased range for the first 3 seconds after switching modes.
  • Pow! (E) - The damage of Bunny Punch is increased by 15%.
  • Is This Easy Mode? (E) - Basic attacks reduce the cooldown of Bunny Punch by 0.1 seconds.

Level 10:

  • Self-Destruct (R) - As above.
  • Bunny Hop! (R) - As above.

Level 13:

  • Tilted - Identical to the "Burning Rage" talent on other heroes.
  • MEKA Shield - Identical to the "Spell Shield" talent on other heroes.
  • Enhanced Weapon (Q) - Reduces the cooldown of Fusion Cannon / Scatter Cannon by 5 seconds.

Level 16:

  • Gamer's Reflexes - D.Va's trait now receives an additional 1% towards the counter for each successful basic attack.
  • Don't Mess with Me! - Stuns and Roots against D.Va grant Resistant, reducing all damage taken by 25% for 3 seconds. This cannot be triggered more than once in a 10 second period.
  • No Hacks Required (W) - Defense Matrix gains an additional 2 charges.
  • Hard Carry (W) - 20% of the damage blocked by D.Va's Defense Matrix is given as healing to nearby allied Heroes over 5 seconds as soon as her Defense Matrix is dropped.

Level 20:

  • Nerf This! (R) - When using Self-Destruct with Boosters, D.Va's MEKA will now automatically leap over terrain obstacles in its path. If the MEKA explodes while over a terrain obstacle, all enemy Heroes near the site of the explosion will be hit regardless of whether or not they have direct line of sight.
  • Shut Down! (R) - If D.Va interrupts an enemy Hero with Bunny Hop while they are channeling an ability, the cooldown is instantly refreshed and the channeling Hero takes double damage from the impact.
  • GG - When D.Va kills an enemy Hero while in Pilot Form, her trait counter is instantly charged to 100%. D.Va is now Invulnerable while entering her MEKA.
  • Ragequit - Creates a landing zone mark on the ground. When D.Va's MEKA is killed in combat, instead of exploding as it normally does, D.Va and the MEKA immediately fly into the sky and crash land in the designated landing zone, where D.Va reverts to pilot form. This ability can only be used once every 60 seconds.
