D2 Assassin

Viz-Jaq'Taar Shadowmaster

v1.0 Base design, no stats at this time

In a similar vein to Kharazim and my Necromancer concept, the Assassin determines their Trap and Dragon Claw effect for the remainder of the game via their level 1 talent.  The Assassin hero is unique in a few ways.  She uses no mana, instead having a Stamina bar, and her basic abilities have no cooldowns.  This means that she can press an advantage but risks not having the stamina necessary to commit an important finishing blow or escape if things become heated.  Her trait, while similar to Valla's Hatred, is also used to power her Finishing Move, Dragon Claw, which can be toggled on to buff the next basic attack she uses.

I've come across one or two other assassin concepts before designing my own.  Similarities are possible.

As per my philosophy, I wanted to be able to include as much of her Diablo 2 skillset into her design, thus her Level 1 talent will determine aspects of her trap and dragon claw, and each aspect was made with the intention of allowing for varied builds for different reasons.  Dragon Claw, for example, will be able to trigger a stun and root, cause an explosion in a radius, or fire Hero prioritizing chain lightning bolts that can bounce to the same target multiple times.  To see how this might be applied, a team needing the control might take the stun-root aspect.  When facing a team of mostly melee characters and to improve laning you might take the fire explosion aspect.  For facing teams with mostly ranged heroes the chain lightning aspect could be more valuable.  While much may be personal preference, I'm confident I've created rather reasonable sidegrades in the Level 1 talents and beyond.

My design philosophy with my D2 hero concepts is to be able to bring in as much of their D2 kit as possible in as balanced a way as possible.  Talents effect precisely how you'll determine the part of the kit you would use and focus on and leaving room for multiple builds, just as with D2.

Combat Trait

1
Martial Artist
Assassin does not use Mana.  Instead, she has a max of 100 stamina and regenerates 8 stamina per second.  Basic attacks do not have cooldowns, while heroics do not cost Stamina.
2
Tiger Strike
Basic attacks add 1 stack of Charge for up to 10 stacks.  Each stack adds 1.5% basic attack damage.  Stacks are spent when Dragon Claw is used.  Stacks degrade at 1 per second after 4 seconds without doing basic attack damage.

Primary Abilities

1
Trap
Ground Target - 30 Stamina

Throws a trap at target location based on kit chosen.

Blade Sentinel: Constructs a bladed disk at location.  After a 1 second warmup time, it flings itself at a high speed to the nearest target, damaging all in its path.

Fire Blast: Throws an explosive mine.  After 1 second, it hides itself.   Any enemy that enters its radius will trigger an explosion of a modest radius.  The mine degrades after 16 seconds if it is not triggered.

Shock Web: Throws an explosive mine.  After 1 second, it hides itself.  Any enemy that enters its radius will trigger a wide lightning-charged web causing damage to enemies inside of it for its duration of 4 seconds.  The mine degrades after 16 seconds if it is not triggered.
2
Dragon Claw
Toggle - 6 Stamina per stack of Charge, requires at least 1 Charge stack.

Empowers your next Basic Attack, adding 10% additional damage per Charge stack.  At 6 or more stacks, applies an additional effect based on your kit.  Will only consume the maximum number of Charge stacks as your available stamina can spend.

Mind Blast: Stuns the target for .3 seconds and roots for an additional .7 seconds.

Fists of Fire: An explosion of 50% of Dragon Claw's damage applies in a radius.

Claws of Thunder: Triggers a lightning bolt that chains up to 5 times, prioritizing heroes, for 25% of Dragon Claw's damage.  Can bounce to the same target multiple times.  If there are no available targets to bounce, the lightning bolt fizzles out.
3
Dragon Flight
Skillshot - 55 Stamina

Fly forward a short distance, traveling through allies and enemies.

Secondary Abilities

1
Fade
Self Buff - 45 second cooldown

Instantly gain 10 stacks of Charge and regenerate to full stamina, taking on a shadowy appearance for 4 seconds.  Charge decay will start at the end of Fade if no attacks are made.

Heroic Abilities

1
Psychic Hammer
Global Skill Shot - 3 Max Charge, 4 second internal cooldown, 20 second per charge

Throws a mentally projected hammer that does light damage on impact, causing a slight knockback and Disorienting for 1.5 seconds.  (Disoriented targets move randomly and cannot control the direction of their movement, but can attack normally)
2
Cloak of Shadows
Ground Target AOE - 45 second cooldown

A large area becomes shrouded in darkness.  Enemy heroes lose half their vision radius and are blinded for up to 3 basic attacks if they enter the Cloak.

Level 1 Talents

Iron Mind, Iron Body: The assassin is a master of her own mind and her own body.  Her traps are Blade Sentinels and she Mind Blasts her target with her Dragon Claw.

Wrought of Fire: The assassin draws on the cleansing nature of fire.  Her traps become Fire Blasts and she can trigger Fists of Fire with her Dragon Claw.

Charged with Lightning: The assassin draws on the chaotic nature of lightning.  Her traps become Shock Webs and she can trigger Claws of Thunder with her Dragon Claw.
