Ah, Gul'dan. So evil, so much fun.
Description:
"A vile warlock who uses curses to destroy his enemies over time. Can drain life from enemies or himself to stay in fights longer."
Gul'dan is an unconventional Ranged Assassin who uses damage over time effects to deal with foes. His trait, Life Tap, gives Gul'dan the means of sticking around in a fight... but at a price. At the cost of 5% of his maximum health, Gul'dan can restore 10% of his maximum mana. This allows Gul'dan to put damage over time effects on as many foes as possible. Gul'dan bread and butter damage ability is Corruption. A cheap DoT on a short cooldown, a good Gul'dan player will spread Corruption to as many targets in a fight as possible. Once a target has been marked with Corruption, they cannot be targeted again until its duration has ended. Gul'dan's next ability is Drain Life. Like the name implies, Drain Life will steal health from enemies and heal Gul'dan. This ability has good synergy with Life Tap, allowing Gul'dan to tinker with his health and mana pools for just the right balance. Demonic Circle is Gul'dan's last ability. Gul'dan will lay down a portal of fel energy and upon activating it again, Gul'dan will teleport back to it, regardless of his presence on the map. He can even use this as a quick means of returning to the fight after death. The portal expires after one use, so be sure to monitor whether you have a means of travel available or not.
Gul'dan's Heroic Abilities give him two different Warlock stables to play with. Unstable Affliction gives Gul'dan another powerful DoT, but this one has a twist. Any Hero that heals a target affected by Unstable Affliction will have the same effect placed on them, making it an effective tool if you want to clean up a team fight. His other Heroic Ability is Chaos Bolt. A powerful spell with a short cast time, Chaos Bolt deals incredible damage to targets protected by shields like Tassadar's Plasma Shield or Immunity effects like Divine Shield or Sanctification. Use this Heroic if you want to counter powerful healing mechanics.
One of Gul'dan's biggest weaknesses is that his ability to clear minion waves is incredibly limited and his siege damage capabilities are even less impressive. Neither Corruption nor Drain Life can be used against structures. Fortunately, Gul'dan's talents give him plenty of options for dealing area of effect damage (notably, the Hand of Gul'dan talent at Level 16). Inherently, Gul'dan trades siege utility for the ability to have rolling damage on every enemy in a team fight.
Skins:
Darkness Incarnate: Gul'dan was the first of the Orc Warlocks and by far the most evil. Seeing the power the Legion presented, Gul'dan set his people on the path of damnation, transforming them from a peaceful shamanic race into a bloodthirsty Horde. Across two timelines, Gul'dan has nearly brought Azeroth to ruin. Now, he seeks to make the Nexus his next dark conquest.
Master Gul'dan: The Heroes of the Nexus fought valiantly to stop Gul'dan's quest for domination. Yet, the more they fought against him, the more they fed his dark power.
