Jaina (Rework)

Archmage

This rework of Jaina is something I always thought Jaina should be. While Blizzard considers her a battleground control mage. While true, as a frost mage it seems fitting she'd be a crowd control mage styled mage as well. The intended goal is make multiple builds viable for Jaina in different situations and playstyles while shouldn't affect her winrate.

Combat Trait

Frostbite
Jaina's Abilities Chill targets, slowing enemy Movement Speed by 25% and amplifying damage taken from her Abilities by 50%. Lasts for 4 seconds.

Primary Abilities

Frostbolt
Mana: 30
Cooldown: 4 seconds

Deal 190 (+4% per level) damage and Chill the target.

Blizzard
Mana: 90
Cooldown: 15 seconds

Bombard an area with 3 waves of ice, dealing 142 (+4% per level) damage each. Damaged enemies are Chilled.
3
Cone of Cold
Mana: 40
Cooldown: 10 seconds.

Deal 230 (+4% per level) and Chill targets.

Heroic Abilities

Ring of Frost
Mana: 70
Cooldown: 80 seconds

After a 1.5 delay, create a Ring of Frost in an area that deals 310 (+4% per level) damage and Roots enemies for 3 seconds. The ring persists for 3 seconds afterwards, Chilling any enemies who touch it.

Water Elemental
Mana: 70
Cooldown: 70

Summons a Water Elemental at target location, The Water Elemental's Basic Attacks deal 86 (+4% per level) damage, splash for 25% damage and Chill. Can reactivate the Ability to retarget the Water Elemental. Lasts 20 seconds.

Has been moved from level 4 to level 1.
New Functionality
* Quest: Regeneration Globes grant an additional 50% Mana.
* Reward: After collecting 25 Regeneration Globes, your Mana is restored by 1% every second for each enemy Hero Chilled.

- Frost Armor
Gain a block charge went down from 10 to 8 seconds.

- Icy Veins
Moved from level 13 to level 16.

- New Talent at level 20; Frost Bomb
Mark an enemy Hero for 10 seconds. Each time that marked Hero takes damage from Jaina's Basic Abilities, a wave of freezing ice explodes around that target dealing 121 (+4% per level) damage to nearby enemies and Chilling them. Frost Bomb's damage can be amplified by Frostbite. (Blizzard Radius)

- Deep Chill Removed
- Frostbitten Removed

- Lingering Chill
Moved from level 1 to level 7.
* Quest: Chill enemy heroes for a total of 300 seconds.
* Reward: Increases the duration of Chill from 4 to 6 seconds.
* Passive: Increases the slow amount of Chill by 30%.

- Ice Barrier
Moved from level 13 to level 4.
Decreased the shield amount from 25 to 20%.

- New Talent at level 16; Hypothermia
Enemy heroes Chilled has their damage reduced by 3% per second.


Frostbolt
- Frost Shards Removed
- Ice Lance Removed

- Winter's Reach
New Functionality
* Quest: Hit Chilled enemy Heroes with Frostbolt.
* Reward: After hitting 40 Chilled enemy Heroes with Frostbolt, you regain 15 Mana when Frostbolt hits a Chilled target.
* Passive: Increases the range of Frostbolt by 30%.

- New Talent at level 13; Splitting Ice
Frostbolt will now pierce all enemy heroes with an untalented Frostbolt.

- New Talent at level 13; Fingers of Frost
Hitting Chilled enemies with Frostbolt reduces its cooldown by 2 seconds and Frostbolt's damage is increased by an additional 25% to Chilled targets.


Blizzard
Snowstorm Removed

- New Talent at level 1; Manastorm
Dealing damage with Blizzard to non-Heroic enemies restore 2 Mana per wave. (42 Mana per minion wave)

- Snow Front
Moved from level 13 to level 4
Cast range decreased from 100 to 75%.

- New Talent at level 13; Arctic Gale
When Blizzard hits 2 or more enemy heroes it 's damage is increased by an additional 35 (+4 per level).


Cone of Cold
- Ice Floes Removed

- Numbing Cold
Moved from level 16 to level 7.

- New Talent at level 7; Brain Freeze
Cone of Cold also silences Chilled targets for 1.25 seconds.


Ring of Frost
- Cold Snap Removed

- New Talent at level 20; Deep Freeze
During the 1.5 delay, enemies around the ring are Chilled.


Water Elemental
- Water Elemental damage increased from 78 to 86 (+4% per level)
- Water Elemental cooldown decreased from 80 to 70 seconds.
- Water Elemental health increased (Similar to Nazeebo's Gargantuan)

Talents

Level 1
1. Winter's Reach (Q)
Quest: Hit Chilled enemy Heroes with Frostbolt.
Reward: After hitting 40 Chilled enemy Heroes with Frostbolt, you regain 15 Mana when Frostbolt hits a Chilled target.
Passive: Increases the range of Frostbolt by 30%.

2. Manastorm (W)
Dealing damage with Blizzard to non-Heroic enemies restore 2 Mana per wave. (42 mana per minion wave)

3. Arcane Intellect (Passive)
Quest: Regeneration Globes grant an additional 50% Mana.

Level 4
1. Snow Front (W)
Increases the cast range of Blizzard by 75%.

2. Ice Barrier (Trait/D)
When Jaina does increased damage from Frostbite, she is shielded for 20% of the total damage dealt. This Shield lasts 4 seconds.

3. Frost Armor (Passive)
Enemy Heroes that attack you are Chilled. Additionally, every 8 seconds you reduce damage taken from the next Hero Basic Attack by 50%.


Level 7
1. Numbing Cold (E)
Cone of Cold also roots Chilled targets for 1 second.

2. Brain Freeze (E)
Cone of Cold also silences Chilled targets for 1.25 seconds.

3. Lingering Chill (Trait/D)
Quest: Chill enemy heroes for a total of 300 seconds.
Reward: Increases the duration of Chill from 4 to 6 seconds.

Level 13
1. Splitting Ice (Q)

Level 16
1. Northern Exposure (E)
Enemies damaged by Cone of Cold are also afflicted with Vulnerable, increasing the damage they take by 25% for 2 seconds.

2. Hypothermia (Trait/D)
Enemy heroes Chilled has their damage reduced by 3% per second.

3. Icy Veins (Active)
Activate to make Jaina's Basic Abilities' cooldowns recharge three times as fast and reduce their Mana costs by 50% for 5 seconds.


Level 20
1. Deep Freeze (R1)
During the 1.5 delay, enemies around the ring are Chilled.

2. Wintermute (R2)
Increases the cast range of Water Elemental by 50%, and the Water Elemental will now mimic your Basic Abilities for 50% damage.

3. Improved Ice Block (Active)
Activate to place yourself in Stasis and gain Invulnerability for 3 seconds. When this effect expires, nearby enemies are Chilled.

4. Frost Bomb (Active)
Mark an enemy Hero for 10 seconds. Each time that marked Hero takes damage from Jaina's Basic Abilities, a wave of freezing ice explodes around that target dealing 121 (+4% per level) damage to nearby enemies and Chilling them, Frost Bomb's damage can be amplified by Frostbite. (Blizzard Radius)

My only problem with this is that her damage power spike would come very late turning her to a late game mage when those slots are already taken. The durable Mage is Nazeebo. Sustained poke is Nazeebo. The late game burst is Kaelthas. In the early game, she will be worse than she was before. Although she'll be slightly more durable, she will not perform better in her role which is dealing damage, either through burst or sustained, both of which she could do with the old talent design.

This will turn her into more of a specialist in the early game than an assassin which of course, is a good thing if that was the goal.

Though I think these problems can be solved by swapping the level 13 and 7 talents. Those level 7 talents are very strong for level 7 anyways which I think is a fair change though number changes will be required for the level 13 talents going to 7 and Lingering Chill might have to be redesigned in some way.

Hmmmm maybe. I will agree that some of her talents involve more being a specialist and I think that's fine. Jaina has really strong waveclear for an assassin so talents like Manastorm would help her waveclear a bit almost restoring half of the mana cost but at the cost of not being useful in a teamfight compared to her other options. The goal of the rework wasn't entirely meant to help her damage output but to better re-define her as a frost mage. In my head the amount of utility you get at an early level would justify the lack of a damage boost till later on but I'll consider swapping those later. Appreciate the feedback nonetheless. :)
