Karax

Khalai Phasesmith

After recently playing through Legacy of the Void I found myself inspired to create a concept for Karax. My main inspiration for this character was having two distinct play-styles:
  • Ranged poke sieger.
  • 'Base builder' lane/area control.

One of the major concerns was overlap with Gazlowe in role and function. However, I feel that the differences between the heroes are larger than the similarities.

N.B. 'warp in' is over approximately 1-1.5 seconds and units and structures can be attacked/targeted during that time (similar to SC2). Damage and health/shield values are @ lv1 and are approximate.

Combat Trait

Solar Core
The Spear of Adun's Solar Core builds up Energy over time, which powers Karax's abilities.
The Solar Core generates 2 Energy per second and can store up to 100 Energy.
Additionally, a power field extends outwards from Karax. Friendly structures in the power field attack 25% faster and regenerate ammo slowly.
Karax can support up to 12 Supply worth of units and structures.

Primary Abilities

Spear of Adun (Orbital Strike)
Cost: 6 Energy
Cooldown: 1 second
Fires the Spear of Adun's Assault weaponry which impacts after a short delay dealing 215 damage.

Photon Cannon
Cost: 15 Energy, 2 Supply
Cooldown: 2 seconds
Warps in a photon cannon which while within a power field attacks nearby foes for 82 damage. Cannons have 300 health, 200 shields and last 30 seconds.

Matrix Overload
Cost: 0 Energy
Cooldown: 12 seconds
Increases the attack and movement speed of all allies in power fields by 30%. Lasts 6 seconds.

Heroic Abilities

Deploy Pylon
Cost: 75 Energy
Cooldown: 2 seconds
Warps in a Pylon which generates its own power field with the same properties as Karax.
Additionally, Karax regenerates an additional 1 Energy per second and Photon Cannons have 100% increased duration.
Karax can have up to 3 Pylons active at any one time.

Khassar de templari!
Cost: 75 Energy, 6 Supply
Cooldown: 2 seconds
After a short delay, 6 Zealots are warped in around Karax and are under his control until destroyed.
Zealots attack for 32 damage and have 150 health and 50 shields.
Additionally, Karax's power field's area is increased by 20%.

Level 1 Talents

  • Solarite Attunement (Quest) - Hitting an enemy with Oribital Strike increases its damage by 5 up to 125. Upon reach 125 bonus damage, Orbital Strike is replaced by Solar Lance, which deals damage in a line but has its Energy cost increased by 2. (Vector Targeted)
  • Photon Bombardment - Increases the range of Photon Cannons by 15%.
  • Khaydarian Siphon - Basic attacks and Orbital Strike hits against heroes restore 2 energy.
  • Defence Matrix - Matrix Overload now grants 2 charges of Block (50%) to Karax for 6 seconds.

Level 4 Talents

  • Plasma Focusing - Enemies hit by the center of Orbital Strike or the center line of Solar Lance are dealt 50% more damage.
  • Matrix Stabilisation - Reduces the cooldown of Matrix Overload by 6 seconds, but it now costs 6 Energy.
  • Photonic Resonator - Photon Cannons now deal 25% more damage to non-heroic targets.
  • Probe Repair (Active)- As per MULE, but a probe!

Level 7 Talents

  • Terrazine Augmentation - Karax's power field now drains life from enemies within it, restoring health to Karax. (Taldarim)
  • Khaydarian Focus - Karax's power field now grants a shield which grows over time to all allies. After being out of combat for 5 seconds, the shield recharges. (Khalai)
  • Purifier Interface - Karax's power field's now grants an additional 5% attack speed and applies to Karax and all non-heroic units and structures. (Purifier)
  • Adun's Restoration - Increases the maximum Energy of Solar Core by 50. (No Style Change)

Level 10 Talents

  • Deploy Pylon
  • Kh***ar de Templari!

Level 13 Talents

  • Lingering Charge - Matrix Overlay now lasts indefinitely on non-heroic units which eneter Karax's power field.
  • Repair Systems - Karax gains a large boost to hit point regeneration when out of combat.
  • Guardian Shell - Units and buildings created by Karax become protected for 1.5 seconds on taking fatal damage.

Level 16 Talents

  • Solar Flare (Active) - Gain 75 Energy. After 8 seconds, all remaining Energy is lost.
  • Chrono Boost (Active) - Restores a friendly structure's ammo, give it 50 Armor and increases its attack speed by 300% for 5 seconds.
  • Emergency Servitor Shielding (active) - Karax gains a medium sized shield as per Stoneskin general talent.

Level 20 Talents

  • Psi Network - Deploy Pylon - Pylons now grant 4 supply and Photon Cannons last until destroyed.
  • En Taro Artanis! - Kh***ar de Templari! - Kh***ar de Templari! units warp in twice as fast and replaced by Centurions which have an area of effect Whirlwind attack.
  • Keystone Awakening (Active) - Place an enemy hero in stasis for a 1 second. Short range.
