"Perhaps the most accomplished of all living wizards, Khadgar was an apprentice to the Guardian Medivh until he helped defeat his master and destroy the Dark Portal created to summon the orcs to Azeroth. Though cursed with frailty and age, Khadgar nevertheless remains an exemplar for the Alliance, leading counterattacks against the Burning Legion and all who would threaten his world with annihilation."

Khadgar is an interesting character to design for, because he transforms from bumbling apprentice into hero into master wizard depending on where you are in the story. I decided to focus on that transformation as part of his design, giving him a weak base kit, and the ability to take 2 talents per level. I frontloaded his survivability and utility so he wouldn't be a liability to his team, but his damage is low in the early game, and considerably high late game.

This allows him to build flexibly, into either an all-round hero or one with one or two heavily buffed skills. I also gave him the ability to re-spec at 16, a powerful option in the event of a game going sideways, but with the high opportunity cost of preventing him from taking two 16 talents.

Arcane Prodigy
Khadgar has immense magical potential, and learns more rapidly than most. Though his base kit is somewhat weak, he unlocks 2 Talents per Talent tier. (Does not apply to Ultimates - Khadgar must choose only one ultimate ability).

Primary Abilities

Ray of Frost
Khadgar fires a ray of pure frost in a straight, thin line, damaging everything in its path by 40 damage and slowing it by 10%.

Cooldown: 10 Seconds
Mana Cost: 60 Mana

Arcane Missiles
Khadgar channels for 1 second, releasing a barrage of Arcane Energy, concentrated in 6 bolts striking targets at random within its target aoe. Each bolt deals 40 damage.

Cooldown: 14 Seconds
Mana Cost: 60 Mana

Blast Wave
Khadgar releases a large burst of flame centered on his body, dealing 90 damage to all enemies hit. He gains a shield equal to 2% of his health for each target hit. Shield lasts 4 seconds or until destroyed.

Cooldown: 15 Seconds
Mana Cost: 50 Mana

Secondary Abilities

Counterspell
Khadgar places a hex on an enemy hero, halting the cooldown of their most recently cast ability by 5 seconds.

Cooldown: 30 seconds

Teleports Khadgar instantly to an area within his vision radius.

Heroic Abilities

Mirror
Khadgar creates 3 Images of himself in a large triangle pattern outward from his location, each lasting for 5 Seconds. These seconds mirror his auto-attacks and Spells, doing 50% of the damage of each.

Nether Tempest
Khadgar deals 300 damage to a single target. That target releases three pulses of 150 damage in a large AOE around them, damaging any of Khadgar's enemies nearby.

At 20, gain 10 Spell Armor

Glacial Insulation:



Gain 5 Armor per hero hit by Ray of Frost.

Sapping Energies:



Heroes hit by Arcane Missiles have their Ability Power reduced by 10% for 3 seconds. Stacks (if hit by 3 missiles, becomes a 30% reduction).

Blinding Flame:



Blast Wave blinds enemy heroes for 3 seconds.

Level 4:



Guardian's Apprentice:



Increase the cast range of all abilities by 10%

Splitting Ice:



Ray of Frost deals an additional 5% of its damage per target hit to everything it hits in a secondary tick.

Presence of Mind:



If more than three Arcane Missiles strike one target, its cooldown is reduced by 3 Seconds.

Blazing Soul:



After casting Blast Wave, Khadgar gains a Burning Rage effect dealing 50 damage per second in an AOE around him for 4 seconds.

Level 7:



Nethergarde Staff:



Khadgar's Auto-Attacks against heroes grant him a temporary 1% Ability Power that lasts 5 seconds. Can stack up to 10 times, stacking resets the decay. Stacks decay all at once.

Brain Freeze:



Hitting Heroes with Ray of Frost reduces the cooldown of all skills by 1 second.

Slipstream:



Arcane Missiles no longer requires a channel, but still takes 2 seconds to release its missiles

Flame Patch:



Blast Wave leaves behind a lingering field of flames that burns for 150 damage over 2 seconds.

Level 10:

Nether Tempest:



Counterspell:



Gain the secondary ability, Counterspell.

Blink:



Gain the secondary ability, Blink.

Level 13:



Resonance:



Hitting an enemy hero with a spell causes the next spell Khadgar casts do deal 10% increased damage. Does not stack.

Piercing Cold:



Ray of Frost ignores armor.

Amplification:



Each subsequent missile of Arcane Missiles deals 5% Additional damage (up to 30% on the last).

Firestarter:



Blast Wave deals an additional 100 Damage against targets above 75% health.

Level 16:




Tome of Tranquil Mind:



Reset and reassign all talents leading up to this point. Tome of Tranquil Mind is considered selected. All quests retain their progress.

Giant's Bane:



Ray of Frost deals an additional 5% of its targets Max Health as Damage.

Words of Power:



Arcane Missiles's damage is increased by 5% of Khadgar's missing mana.

Frenetic Speed:



Khadgar gains 50% bonus movement speed for 4 seconds after casting Blast Wave.

Level 20:



True Mirror:



Khadgar's illusions take damage he would receive in his place. Each can take up to 500 before it is destroyed.

Swirling Tempest:



If the original target of Nether Tempest dies while its effect is active, it is transferred to one hero hit by the damage of its aura. If no heroes have been hit, the effect disappates. Resets the decay of the aura.

Mastery: Ray of Frost



Ray of Frost now slows by 30%.

Mastery: Arcane Missiles



Each missile that hits a hero reduces the cooldown of his ultimate by 5 seconds.

Mastery: Blast Wave



Blast Wave now Stuns each target hit for 1 second.
