Kyle "Blackthorne"

King of Androth

After being beckoned by Galadril to return the kingdom to it's former glory, Kyle Blackthorne, armed with his wits and a pump shotgun, conquered back the lands of the Androthi and destroyed Sarlac, bringing a new era of fairness and justice to the people of the lightstone

Combat Trait

Androthi enhancements
Mana cost: 0
Cooldown: 60 seconds.

When using this ability, Kyle loses all previous Androthi enhancements and enters into an "Upgrade mode" and loses the ability to perform any action but use his skills, which are replaced as permanent exchangable buffs to his autoattack, he can only apply two enhancements to his attacks at a time.

Q - Long range pellets: Increases autoattack range by 25%
W - Buckshot: Increases damage by 15%. Attacks splash on a cone AoE starting from Blackthorne's position
E - Explosive rounds: Increases damage by 15%.Attacks splash on a small radius around the target.
R - Automatic shotgun: Increases attack speed by 25%.

D - Cancel: Stops the upgrading process and returns costs of this skill.

Primary Abilities

Bridge Key
Mana cost: 60
Cooldown: 30 seconds

Creates a pedestal on target location, and a holographic bridge between Kyle's current position and the pedestal's position, while Kyle stays on the bridge, he gains +12% movement speed and can walk through obstacles and structures. The pedestal can be destroyed with four autoattacks and lasts for five seconds.

Remote Wasp
Mana cost: 50
Cooldown: 7 seconds

Blackthorne launches a wasp towards the target location, the wasp gives a small radius of vision around it. Then Blackthorne may use this skill again once to move the wasp towards a new position. If the remote wasp comes in contact with an enemy, it'll explode dealing heavy damage (230+5% per level) on an AoE around the wasp before it dies. (Radius is around the same as Graviton bomb without any talents)

Mana cost: 35
Cooldown: 9 seconds

Kyle rolls a short distance forward and then instantly performs an autoattack on the nearest enemy. The roll range is the same as Tychus'

Heroic Abilities

Backshot
Mana cost: 75
Cooldown: 50 seconds

Blackthorne instantly shoots a projectile directly behind the direction he's facing, which deals (200+4% per level) + (Current attack damage x 2) damage to the first enemy it connects with and applies on hit effects. (Range is similar to Medivh's Q)

Levitator
Mana cost: 100
Cooldown: 40 seconds

Blackthorne releases a Levitator below his feet, which propels him upwards, protecting him from all damage for 1 second, before then propelling him a great distance forward towards the direction he's looking at, travelling through terrain and structures.

TALENTS

Level 1:


  • Androthi rescue (QUEST): Destroy a fortress. REWARD: Each time a fortress is destroyed, the cooldown of Androthi Enhancements is reduced by 15 seconds, up to a maximum reduction of 45 seconds.
  • Galadriel's beckoning:After leaving the spawn area, Blackthorne receives a +30% speed buff while mounted for 3 seconds.
  • Whar'ork marauding (QUEST): Kill mercenary units. REWARD: Each time Blackthorne kills a mercenary, his damage against mercenaries is increased by 5%, up to a maximum of 100%.

Level 4:


  • Hover bomb (ACTIVE): Blackthorne releases a hover bomb in the target direction, when it makes contact with an enemy, it deals (180+4% per level) damage and removes any armor buff it may have. (25 second cooldown)
  • Shadow cover (ACTIVE): Blackthorne enters cover, giving himself 50 armor for 0.75 seconds OR protected for 0.75 seconds if he's near an allied structure. He cannot move during this time. (20 second cooldown)
  • Health Potion (ACTIVE): Blackthorne channels for 3 seconds, at the end of the channel he recovers 20% health. (20 second cooldown)

Level 7:


  • Critical wasp: Remote wasp's damage increases the more distance it travels, up to a 30% extra damage if it travels max distance before exploding.
  • Rechargable bridge: Each regeneration sphere grabbed while Bridge Key is on cooldown reduces it's cooldown by 4 seconds.
  • Point blank (Passive): Increases damage done with attacks to enemy heroes at melee distance by 20%.

Level 13:


  • Holographic getaway: After Blackthorne's bridge key effect expires, the bridge turns into an impassible wall for 1 second.
  • Fire bomb: When Blackthorne uses Combat Roll, he leaves behind a small area which deals damage over time and reduces enemy armor by 2 each tick of damage, the duration is 4 seconds and it deals (28+5% per level) damage each half second.
  • Wasp clash: For each enemy hero hit with the Remote Wasp's explosion, it's cooldown is reduced by 0.75 seconds.


Level 16:


  • Remote control: The remote wasp can be redirected an infinite amount of times.
  • Androthi revenge: Each attack received while combat roll is on cooldown reduces it's cooldown by 0.5 seconds.
  • Eeker escape (QUEST): Perform 15 attacks on enemy heroes. REWARD: The next stun or root that affects Blackthorne will have it's duration reduced to 0.1 seconds.
  • The leader's trophy: While the entire enemy team is dead, Kyle's damage is increased by 25%.

Level 20:


  • Blackthorne's rule: Increases the range of backshot by 250% and it's damage by 20%, and restores it's cooldown if it kills an enemy that isn't visible to Blackthorne's team.
  • Andromedogs' nightmare: When Blackthorne leaves the Levitator, he'll immediately cast Combat roll in the direction he's looking after he lands.
  • Androthi Glory: Increases the number of Androthi Enhancements that Blackthorne can equip to 3.
  • Perfect Gadget Use: Gives an additional charge to the Level 4 talent active.

Why these stats?



LOW HP / DEFENCE: "Blackthorne is just a guy, mainly, he cannot compare to WCs magic environment or armours, nor can he compare to SC's armours either, a guy with a shotgun and no armor can't have that good defence, also in the game he wasn't the tankiest guy in the world"

LOW MANA / MANA REGEN: "Want more hanzos?"

LOW ATTACK RANGE / SPEED AND HIGH DAMAGE: "It's a shotgun, also those stats can be changed with his trait"

Idea behind the design



Blackthorne is a high damage bruiser with potential to clear lanes, and utility to be present at any fight he is needed. His short range means he'll have to put himself on danger while having low defences.

Still, his talents give him a great edge to follow several builds which can counteract some of his weaknesses at the expense of sacrificing his maximum damage potential.

Blackthorne's role in the team is being a high risk high reward nuker that can come in, deal a ton of damage, and then get out, while also offering the team utility and presence across the map thanks to Levitator and Bridge key. His stats are extremely low, and he has a low regen value and low range so even if he can go in deal a ton of damage, and then get out, any CC will quickly put a stop to his antics.

PROS:
  • Extremely high reliable damage (AoE autoattacks are hard to miss)
  • Self utility to appear where and when he is needed
  • Choices of talents to increase his reliability even more
  • Wave clearer.
  • Potential to be a duelist, or a continuous damage dealer on teamfights.
  • Good solo laner, and good with tanks and healers.


CONS:
  • Absolutely 0 CC
  • His escape skill has a long cooldown, and if he uses it to engage, he can end up with a short range dash as his only escape
  • Short range, low HP
  • Bad in a full damage composition, unless he serves as a utility hero.


GOOD TEAMMATES: "Any tank that brings the fight to the team, or healers/supports that can either remove CC or heal him enough to get out of bad situations"

BAD TEAMMATES: "Damage dealers that cannot CC, since Blackthorne cannot follow it up. Still, Kyle can help the team with vision, armor debuffs and presence"

GOOD MATCHUPS: "Low defense, low CC anything, if they cannot stop Kyle Blackthorne walking towards them, or him walking towards them and then getting out, Blackthorne will destroy them"

BAD MATCHUPS: "High defense targets with CC, or assasins with kiting potential, things like Johannna or Tracer coming to mind, still, thanks to Blackthorne's reliability, he's not going to be 100% useless against these targets."

Androthi rescue, Hover bomb, Critical wasp, LEVITATOR, Wasp clash, Remote control and Perfect Gadget Use give Blackthorne the best utility potential he can achieve, allowing him to sacrifice his low range massive firepower potential in favor for a more long range single target/AoE defensive potential to be able to help when his extremely short range and low natural defences cannot let him attack at his leisure, equipping his shotgun for range and splash damage will let him respond to a dive comp, even if it's his weakest spot.


Meanwhile Whar'ork marauding, Health Potion, Point blank, LEVITATOR, Fire bomb, The leader's trophy and Androthi Glory gives him a perfect wave clearing, counter pushing and dueling potential.

At the same time, the highest DPS build could be something like: Androthi rescue, Shadow cover, Point blank, BACKSHOT, Fire bomb, Androthi revenge and Blackthorne's rule.
