Lana'thel

The Blood-Queen

A melee Bruiser that excels at sustaining herself, but deals less damage while injured.

I really like the way Lana'thel's kit incorporates her vampire character fantasy by providing multiple sources of self-sustain. However, I am aware that a Bruiser with ludicrous amounts of healing can be an absoltute nightmare to balance. She is probably the character I've had the most trouble balancing out of any Heroesfire concepts (and even unpublished drafts) I have worked on so far. I tried to allow her to shine at self-sustain, but gave her kit some complexity and counterplay opportunities to make her more interesting to play as or against.

If anyone has some comments or ideas they would like to share to help me hit the mark in terms of balance or design, I would be happy to read them.

Curse of the San'layn
Trait

Lana'thel's Basic Attacks heal her for 35% of the damage done, but she grows weaker as she loses Health, dealing 0.6% less damage for every 1% of her maximum Health missing.

Notes:
- The damage reduction stacks multiplicatively with any other effects that affect damage output

Queen's Bite (Q)
Mana: 30
Cooldown: 6 seconds


Leap to an ally or enemy and bite them, dealing 150 damage and healing Lana'thel for 150 Health. The healing is doubled against Heroes.

Using Queen's Bite on an allied Hero deals 50% less damage and grants them Essence of the Blood Queen, increasing their damage by 10% for 6 seconds. Cannot be used on allies that are under 15% Health.

- The doubled healing is granted when using Queen's Bite on enemy or allied Heroes

Blood Pact (W)
Mana: 60
Cooldown: 14 seconds


Launch a cursed missile that deals 130 damage to enemies and curses the first enemy Hero hit for 7 seconds or until they move too far. Using Queen's Bite on another enemy Hero within that time links both targets, dealing 50 damage every 0.5 seconds until they meet. Lana'thel is healed for 24 Health whenever Blood Pact deals damage.

Only 1 Hero can hold the initial curse at any time, but multiple links can be active at the same time.

Notes:
- The link is broken when the targets move into meeting range from one another
- The meeting range is the distance needed between the edges of the targets' hitboxes
- The initial curse can be removed by being too far from the target, but the link has a global range once active
- The cooldown starts when the ability is cast

Crimson Winds (E)
Mana: 50
Cooldown: 10 seconds


Send 2 gusts of wind to the target location, each dealing 80 damage and Slowing enemies hit by 50%, decaying over 2.5 seconds. The gusts merge and travel back to Lana'thel after reaching their destination, dealing 170 damage and pulling enemy Heroes.

Notes:
- The gusts start on Lana'thel's sides and follow an elliptic path towards the target location

Siphoning Orb (R)
Mana: 70
Cooldown: 80 seconds


Launch a slow-moving orb that deals 30 damage every 0.25 seconds to enemy Heroes it passes through. The orb's size is increased by 5% each time it deals damage, up to 100%.

The orb explodes at the end of its path, healing Lana'thel and allies affected by Essence of the Blood Queen for 25% of the damage done.

Notes:
- The explosion radius is constant and does not increase as the orb grows
- The outline of the explosion can be seen around the orb by allies at all times

Vampiric Feast (R)
Mana: 70
Cooldown: 80 seconds


After 0.5 seconds, dash in the target direction and feast on the first enemy Hero hit. The target loses 30% of their remaining Health over 5 seconds, healing Lana'thel for 200% of the damage done. Lana'thel and the target are in Stasis during Vampiric Feast.

Curse of the San'layn does not affect Vampiric Feast's damage, but its effects are increased by 50% for 4 seconds when Vampiric Feast ends.

Notes:
- Both the healing and the damage reduction are increased to 52.5% and 0.9% respectively

Talents


Level 1

Predatory Instincts


Hitting an enemy Hero with Queen's Bite increases the healing from Basic Attacks against the target to 50% for 2.5 seconds. Basic Attacks against the target refresh the duration.

Passive: Increase Attack Speed by 20%.

Mistress of Pain


Every 4th time Blood Pact deals damage to a linked enemy Hero, its cooldown is reduced by 0.5 seconds and Lana'thel gains 50 Physical Armor against the next Heroic Basic Attack. Stacks up to 4 times.

Notes:
- The effect is triggered independently on each linked Hero; normal behavior would grant 2 stacks every 2 seconds

Rending Gust


Hitting an enemy Hero with Crimson Winds deals an additional 60 damage over 6 seconds, stacking up to 3 times. Dealing damage to the target from any other source consumes the effect, healing Lana'thel for 3% of her maximum Health per stack.

Notes:
- All stacks on the target are consumed at once
- The heal is not triggered on expiration of the damage-over-time effect


Level 4

Blood Trail


Enemy Heroes damaged by Queen's Bite lose 10 Armor and leave behind a blood trail for 3.5 seconds, increasing Lana'thel's Movement Speed by 30% for 2 seconds whenever she touches it.

Radius: 0.75

Notes:
- The trail behaves in the same way as Stitches's Putrid Bile ultimate

Curse of Frailty


Crimson Winds deals 30% more damage to Heroes affected by Blood Pact and pushes them 50% further.

Crippling Gale


Damaging the same enemy Hero with Crimson Winds 2 times in a single cast Stuns them for 0.75 seconds and increases the damage and range of Lana'thel's next Basic Attack by 75%.

Notes:
- The damage bonus does not stack, but it can be triggered again on an other target from the same cast after being consumed


Level 7

Death's Veil


Curse of the San'layn grants 1 Spell Armor for every 2.5% of Health missing, up to a maximum of 30. Whenever Lana'thel's Health drops under 25%, she gains 40 Armor for 4 seconds. This can happen once every 30 seconds.

Notes:
- Death's Veil ignores any other effects that affect Curse of the San'layn.
- The Armor bonus overwrites the Spell Armor bonus for its duration

Queen's Gift


Using Queen' Bite on an allied Hero causes its cooldown to recharge 100% faster for 6 seconds. Increase the duration of Essence of the Blood Queen by 3 seconds and grant 60% of Blood Pact's healing to affected allied Heroes.

Power Drain


Heroes affected by Blood Pact deal 15% less damage and heal Lana'thel for 15% of the damage dealt by their Basic Attacks. Overhealing from Power Drain is turned into a Shield for 5 seconds.

Notes:
- The Shields stack, but their duration cannot be refreshed; each instance of overhealing grants an independent Shield


Level 13

Undying Resolve


!Quest: Basic Attack enemy Heroes 12 times.

!Reward: Whenever Lana'thel' Health drops under 25%, she becomes Unstoppable for 2 seconds and gains 30% Basic Attack damage for 5 seconds. This resets the quest's progress.

Passive: Reduce the damage reduction of Curse of the San'layn to 0.45% per 1% of missing Health.

Death's Breath


Using Queen's Bite on a Hero grants Essence of the Blood Queen to Lana'thel. Hitting an enemy Hero with a Basic Attack or Queen's Bite reduces their healing received by 8% for 2 seconds, up to 40%.

Notes:
- The healing from the Queen's Gift talent does not affect Lana'thel

Shadow Weaving


Basic Attacks against Slowed Heroes deal an additional 25 Spell Damage, reduce the cooldown of Crimson Winds by 0.5 seconds, and stop any Slow decay.

Passive: Increase Basic Attack range by 100%.

Notes:
- Stops the decay of any decaying Slow, even those applied by other Units.


Level 16

Twin Fangs


Queen's Bite gains an additional charge, and its range is increased by 30%. Using Queen's Bite on an enemy Hero beyond its base range deals an additional 100 damage around the target after 1.5 seconds.

Radius: 2.5

Impending Doom


Increase Blood Pact's link damage by 12.5% for every second it remains active, up to 50%. Upon reaching 50% increased damage, the linked Heroes instantly take damage equal to 9% of their maximum Health.

Crimson Storm


Crimson Winds sends a 3rd gust in a straight line. If all 3 gusts hit the same enemy Hero, Lana'thel gains 15 Spell Power for 14 seconds, stacking up to 2 times.

Notes:
- The 3rd gust has the same range
- The Spell Power bonus can be gained once per cast


Level 20

Essence Collector


Shiphoning Orb remains stationary for 4 seconds after reaching its destination, and then explodes an additional time.

Prey on the Weak


Vampiric Feast deals an additional 15% of the target's missing Health as damage when it ends, and its cooldown is reduced to 15 seconds if they die within 1.5 seconds.

Soulbound


Blood Pact's initial curse lasts indefinetly and cannot be escaped, but the link deals 50% less damage if activated after 8 seconds.

Unquenchable Thirst

Active
Cooldown: 50 seconds

Activate to reverse the damage reduction of Curse of the San'layn for 6 seconds.

2.0


It has been 2 years since I last worked on this concept. The following changes are the result of a major rework and redesign of Lana'thel's abilities and talents.

BASE

Basic Attack:
Basic Attack damage increased from 95 to 120.
Attack Speed reduced from 1.25 to 1.10.

Curse of the San'layn (D):
Damage reduction reduced from 0.7% to 0.6%.
Additional functionality: Basic Attacks heal Lana'thel for 35% of the damage done.

Queen's Bite (Q):
Cooldown reduced from 7 to 6 seconds.
Damage reduced from 175 to 150.
Healing reduced from 350 to 150.
Essence of the Blood Queen damage bonus reduced from 15% to 10%.
Additional functionality: The healing is doubled against Heroes. Deals 50% less damage when used on allied Heroes. Cannot be used on allies that are under 15% Health.

Blood Pact (W):
Damage increased from 110 to 130.
Curse duration reduced from 8 to 7 seconds.
Damage per tick reduced from 55 to 50.
Healing increased from 20 to 24.
The initial curse can now be removed by being too far from the target.

Crimson Winds (E):
Completely changed.
Renamed from Delirious Slash to Crimson Winds.
Old functionality: Slash at enemies in an arc, dealing 55 damage instantly and an additionnal 175 damage over 5 seconds. Using Queen's Bite on an enemy affected by Delirious Slash increases its duration by 3 seconds.
New functionality: Send 2 gusts of wind to the target location, each dealing 80 damage and Slowing enemies hit by 50%, decaying over 2.5 seconds. The gusts merge and travel back to Lana'thel after reaching their destination, dealing 170 damage and pulling enemy Heroes.

Author's Note:
Lana'thel was supposed to be a front line bruiser from the start, but other than Blood Pact, which forced at least some repositioning from enemy Heroes, she didn't have any abilities that gave her an intimidating presence in fights. Crimson Winds, with its slow and knockback mechanics, is a tool that makes her feel more oppressive and that plays well with her Blood Pact by giving her a creative way of potentially moving targets away from one another.


Vampiric Feast (R):
Mana cost increased from 60 to 70.
Cooldown increased from 70 to 80 seconds.
Healing reduced from 300% of the damage done to 200% of the damage done.
Now has a cast time of 0.5 seconds.
Now a dash that affects the first enemy Hero hit.

TALENTS

Most talents have been completely changed or replaced.
