Maiev Shadowsong

Master Warden

"After Illidan was exiled in the ensuing war, Maiev took it upon herself to hunt the Betrayer down and return him to his cell in the name of justice. Maiev's anger and lust for vengeance continued to grow as she and her followers pursued the Betrayer to the Tomb of Sargeras, where she barely escaped with her life. She sought the aid of the night elven leader Malfurion Stormrage (Illidan's brother) and together they chased and engaged Illidan in the ruins of Lordaeron. Although somewhat redeeming himself by working with Malfurion to save Tyrande, Illidan was still just as guilty in Maiev's eyes, and she continued to pursue him as he retreated to the shattered world of Outland." - Wowpedia

Maiev Shadowsong presents a challenge from a design perspective because the Warden's kit in WC3 is so similar to that of Zeratul in HOTS. To that end, I differentiated her in the following ways:

-Her invisibility is a 'combat invisibility' meaning it is both created and broken by auto-attacks. Functionally this causes her to fade in and out of combat, presenting a frustrating target for anyone relying on single-target abilities.

-Her blink is similar to Xul's bone shield in that it is determined by level 1 talent choice and otherwise unmodified, meaning it never becomes the crazy low cd ping-pong tool that Zeratul's is, and is more of a clutch initiation or escape tool.

-Her abilities behave differently vs. single targets and multiple targets, forcing her to choose how to use them. She deals overall more damage by hitting many targets, but loses out on the burst she would get by hitting one. Between Imprison and her Ult, her kit thrives most on isolating a single target and removing them, but her invisibility allows her to be more present in teamfights as a sustained damage dealer if the need arises.

Combat Trait

1
Shadow Meld
Like all Wardens, Maiev possesses the ability to blend into the shadows, making herself Invisible to enemy heroes. If Maiev auto-attacks the same target 3 times within 3 seconds, she enters Stealth. Changing targets resets the count. Entering Stealth in this manner grants 1 Second of Unrevealable.

This effect is triggered automatically by Mounting, and is broken by dismounting.

Primary Abilities

1
Shadow Strike
Maiev tosses a poisoned dagger forward in a thin straight line, out to a range of 4.5 units away. The projectile moves almost instantly, and does not trigger its effects until it has finished.

It deals a total of 250 damage to all enemies it hits, distributed evenly among them. All enemies hit also suffer a DOT dealing 90 additional damage over 2 seconds, and are slowed by 30%.

Cooldown: 7 seconds
Mana Cost: 45 Mana
2
Fan of Knives
Maiev throws a fan of blades out from her, covering a 3 Unit AOE in a circle around herself. Targets hit are damaged for 75% of Maiev's current untalented auto-attack damage.

Heroes hit also take up to 3% of their Max Health in additional damage. Each hero hit reduces this damage, but it cannot fall below 1%, EG: 1 Hero - 3%, 2 heroes each take 2%, 3/4/5 heroes each take 1%.

Cooldown: 5 Seconds
Mana Cost: 30 Mana
3
Imprison
Maiev taps into a portion of her power as Illidan's Jailer to create a small prison after a .5 second delay. The prison takes the form of a circle with a diameter of 3 Units, and lasts for 3 seconds.

Heroes inside the circle can walk, but cannot use movement abilities of any kind. Movement abilities can be used to enter the circle, but once inside the normal rules apply. The ability can be canceled prematurely.

Cast Range: 3 Units
Cooldown: 15 Seconds
Mana Cost: 60 Mana

Secondary Abilities

1
Blink
Maiev teleports to a set location.

Range: 6 Units
Cooldown: 10 Seconds
Mana Cost: 40 Mana

Heroic Abilities

1
Aspect of Vengeance
Maiev has access to this ability from Level 1, and selects from additional functions for it at Level 10.

Maiev's anger and Vengefulness has honed her into a powerful huntress. She can tap into this hatred to follow her prey. She marks a target, and retains Vision of that target and a 2 unit AOE around them for 20 seconds.

Maiev can re-activate this ability at any time to teleport to her target's location. Doing so resets whatever the current duration of the Vision effect to 5 seconds, and Reveals the target for that time.

Cooldown: 40 Seconds
Mana Cost: 50 Mana
