Malthael

Angel of Death

Malthael was a former member and leader of the Angiris Council. Once the Archangel of Wisdom, once the worldstone was destroyed he disappeared, his departure broke the unity of the Angiris Council. Some speculated that he haunted the Halls of Pandemonium, seeking answers to the unknowable mysteries of life and death. He returned years later - and became the Angel of Death, along with his army of Reapers.

Combat Trait

1
Drain Soul
Enemies in a small area around Malthael are slowed by 10%, and take low damage every second. 100% of this damage is returned to Malthael as health.

Primary Abilities

1
Reap
Malthael lunges forward a short distance and rakes both of his scythes in a cone in front of him for moderate damage. Deals triple damage to non heroic targets.
2
Soul Shield
Upon killing a minion, Malthael gains a stack of Soul Shield. Soul Shield may be activated to gain Spell Armor for 10 seconds, equal to the ammount of stacks of Soul Shield. Stacks are consumed upon use, and have a maximum of 50.
3
Touch of the Grave
Reduce an enemy hero's movement speed by 30% and attack speed by 50% for two seconds.

Heroic Abilities

1
Death Shrouds
Summon a slow moving cloud of mist that will slow enemies caught within it by 40% and deal large amounts of damage every second. The movement of the cloud is random.
2
Soul Sweep
Malthael teleports to the target area and after 0.5 seconds releases projectiles around him dealing massive damage, with the exception of a small cone directly behind him. Direction may be chosen with Vector Targeting.

Concept

With the recent influx of Assassins, and more specifically Warcraft Assassins. It seemed that there was a spot open for another specialist, and while I originally always saw Malthael as an assassin, a combination of being sick with Assassins, and the portrayal of Malthael in Diablo 3, heavily centred around control, and also slows. Inspired me to design him for mass slowing, and lane control.

The main playstyle would involve a heavy period of laning before moving in to a teamfight to stack up Soul Shield, allowing him to survive after diving into the enemy and inflicting slows on them.

Soul Sweep being a powerful initiation tool, diving into the middle, softening the enemy team up and applying his trait to have his team clean up the remainder.

Death Shrouds is designed to be placed onto a target and then have slows piled on to them - up to a maximum of 80% untalented slow.
