Overwatch's Resident Climatologist



"Our World is Worth Fighting For!"



Cheerful, Creative and Optimistic, Dr. Mei-Ling Zhou was once a Climatologist working at Ecopoint Antarctica, one of Overwatch's eco-watchpoints that had been designed in order to monitor the world's rapidly changing climate. After a Polar Storm forced her unit to go into cryostasis to save themselves, Mei would be the only one to wake up again as all the cryo-pods, bar her own, had malfunctioned. Using her ingenuity and the assistance of Snowball, her little robotic partner, Mei was able to escape the frozen prison and make her way out into the new world, a world without Overwatch, a world changed by the tides of the Omnic Crisis.

Now, this bright-eyed scientist is looking to show the Nexus what she can do, and show that her world isn't the only one worth fighting for.


STATS:



Mei is a resilient area-controlling specialist who excels at closing off exits and securing kills for her team. She is designed to specifically counter dive-based heroes and protect the more valuable members of her team, namely that of her healer or primary damage dealer. On top of dealing with aggressive dive-based characters, she also excels at forcing enemies out of objectives.

Strengths:
+Sports several forms of CC
+Deters enemies from approaching thanks to Endothermic Blaster's passive slow
+Icicle Launcher gives a form of powerful burst damage
+Ice Wall makes escape nigh impossible for some heroes and cannot be jumped over
+Cryo-Freeze negates burst damage

Weaknesses:

-Very weak siege
-Moves slower than other heroes
-Low damage overall outside of Icicle Launcher and Heroics
-Struggles against sustained damage, especially ranged sustained damage

Synergizes Well With:

GARROSH, DIABLO, MALFURION, JAINA, ETC. (Mei works well with heroes that can take advantage of the CC she possesses. Heroes that can either reposition enemies or help with her ability to approach and trap enemies are the allies that should be looked into when a Mei is being drafted into your team.)

Excels against:

TRACER, GENJI, MAIEV, ETC. (Mei's natural slow abilities make her prime for dealing with characters looking to pressure her backline, namely the likes of Genji and Tracer. She also works well against heroes with global abilities, like Dehaka and Falstad, who would try to take her and her team by surprise.)

Struggles against:

FENIX, NOVA, HANZO, JUNKRAT, ETC. (Mei's overall lower movement speed leaves her susceptible to any hero who can bypass her CC, namely characters with long range. She also greatly fears slows as she's already slower than the rest of the cast.)

COMBAT TRAIT

Mei's basic attack, the Endothermic Blaster, has a naturally built-in ice mechanic. With this, Mei is capable of slowing her enemies as she attacks them, the slow increasing by 10% every 1 second. After Mei has attacked the enemy for 3 seconds, the enemy will become frozen and be unable to move or attack for 1.5 seconds. If the enemy takes more than 650 damage while frozen, the ice will instantly shatter, regardless of how long the enemy has been frozen for. In order to make this a fair ability, Mei's overall movement speed is 10% slower than that of other heroes

Primary Abilities

Icicle Launcher
Mana: 40
Cooldown: 5 seconds

Mei will charge up a block of ice in her endothermic blaster, and after a second of delay, will launch a powerful projectile in a straight line. Mei is capable of moving around while charging the blast, but will stand still upon firing. This attack will deal 250 damage if it connects with an enemy hero, and even more if it hits a disabled hero. This attack cannot hit minions, but can hit Mercs and Bosses.

Cryo-Freeze
Mana: 100
Cooldown: 30 seconds

Mei will surround herself in a block of ice, becoming invulnerable for 3 seconds. This can be cancelled by pressing (W) again. Unlike in Overwatch, this ability does not naturally heal Mei once she uses it.

Ice Wall
Mana: 75
Cooldown: 20 seconds

Mei will create a wall of ice at the targeted location, a wall that neither her, her teammates nor her enemies can pass through. The wall itself lasts for 5 seconds unless destroyed prematurely, but enemies can knock down the wall by dealing damage to it. Each Wall has 1250 health.

Heroic Abilities

Blizzard
Mana: 175
Cooldown: 85 seconds

Mei will target an area in front of her before releasing Snowball and rapidly freezing any enemy within the area shown. Like her Endothermic Blaster, the slow will get worse the longer the enemy stays within the circle, only Blizzard works at a 0.5 second interval as opposed to 1 second, freezing enemies in 2 seconds as opposed to 3. This widespread CC is perfect for use at the beginning of a team fight, leaving any frozen enemy open to repositioning. The Blizzard itself lasts for 6 seconds before disappearing.

Frozen Downpour
Mana: 150
Cooldown: 75 seconds

After Mei targets an area, she will begin to overload her endothermic blaster. After a 1.5 second delay, she will launch a massive icicle up into the air that will come raining down on the targeted location in sheets of tiny icicles. This attack will not slow the opponent, but instead deal massive amounts of damage to any enemy who stands in it, dealing 1600 damage in total. The rain will last for 8 seconds before dissipating.

Sub-Zero Stream


QUEST: Freeze Enemy Heroes with Basic Attacks
REWARD: After freezing enemy players for a total of 60 seconds, Frozen status lasts for an additional 1.5 seconds


(W) Polar Pocket


QUEST: Absorb Hero damage with Cryo-Freeze
REWARD: After absorbing 1500 damage, Cryo-Freeze's duration is increased by 1.5 seconds
REWARD #2: After absorbing 3000 damage, Cryo-Freeze's cooldown is reduced by 10 seconds
