Mysterious Challenger's character icon does not appear on the mini map for enemy players. Mysterious Challenger's ultimate choice, ultimate cooldown, health and mana, do not appear on the in-game GUI for enemy players.

When Mysterious Challenger gains a secret, a secret icon is displayed above the hero. Only 1 secret may be active at a time.

Abilities and effects that would cause things to "appear" as they aren't are dispelled by abilities that detect or reveal stealth.

Shady Acquisition
Enemy Minions killed near Mysterious Challenger grant a stack of Bribe. Hero Takedowns grant 10 stacks of Bribe. Use 25 stacks to bribe a Mercenary, instantly defeating them. Does not work on Bosses. Maximum of 100 stacks. If a camp is defeated entirely with Bribe, the Mercenaries do not appear on the mini map.

Undercover Justice
Mysterious Challenger appears to enemies as a clone of the nearest hero.

Decoy Troops
Activate near a mercenary camp to spawn a clone of the mercenary camp. The clones will act like a recently captured camp but deal no damage. Cooldown 60 seconds.

Enemy heroes hit by Browbeat now see all heroes as allied heroes for the duration.

Larceny (E)
Enemy heroes hit by Extort have 5% of their maximum mana drained. Restore mana equal to the amount drained.

Conspiracy (W)
Reduce the cooldown of Conspire by 3 seconds.

Level 20


Mind your own business! (R)
After the enemy hero is teleported back to the altar, reduce their movement speed by 20% for 30 seconds.

Tips and Design Comments

Tips


The list below is a series of tips and tricks to help you master Mysterious Challenger.
  • Mysterious Challenger is all about deception. Keep your secrets up as often as possible and keep the enemy team guessing as to what is reality.
  • Conspire is a powerful ability and can make people believe that a hero has low health. Not only can you force a potential gank by the enemy team, but you can force an impulsive heal by the enemy team's healer, making them heal an already full hp hero. Make a Rehgar cry.
  • You can combo Repentence Ultimate into Conspire into Sacred Trial secret to get a quick kill in a team fight on squishier enemy heroes. Cast Repentence to have the secret active. Cast conspire on an allied hero, tricking the enemy into damaging the hero. When they do, Repentence triggers, setting that enemy hero's health to 10%. Quickly cast the Sacred Trial secret and have it trigger dealing damage to the enemy hero with the least health, which will more than likely be the enemy hero with 10% health.
  • Use Eye for an Eye secret when you expect an enemy hero to cast a high burst damage ability such as Pyroblast.
  • Use Talents like Shady Acquisition and Decoy Troops to maximize the efficiency of Mercenary camps. These talents keep valuable information away from the enemy team.
  • Use the Level 20 talent Paranoia to trick enemy teams into thinking their core is being destroyed to get the edge on lengthy games or timed objective events.

Design Comments


The Mysterious Challenger is all about keeping valuable information away from the enemy. Tricking your opponent's senses makes them behave differently and force them to think more carefully about their actions. This helps break the monotony of cookie cutter strategies and helps create a more interesting interaction. Is that really a Mercenary camp coming towards our core or is it just an illusion again? Is that enemy hero actually ready to be ganked or is it a trap? Wait we have 6 people taking this boss? Who is the impostor?! These types of thought will plague your enemy when you play Mysterious Challenger.
