Nova (rework)

Dominion ghost

An attempt at a conceptual Nova rework that reduces her burst by a tad but increases the amount of utility she can give to a team

Another design goal was to make her varying builds a bit more interesting in general, removing talents that either suck (perfect shot/explosive shot) or doesn't do much at all (Remote delivery, all current pinning shot talents bar crippling shot)

It is currently a work in progress but constructive feedback is appreciated

Latest changes (7/1-2016):
Changed gathering power for crippling shot at level 4 (Felt like Gathering power was too similar to perfect shot and perfect shot is ultimately more interesting)
Clarified the wording on target marked
Portable stealth field changed for advanced cloaking at 16

Things to do: Not happy with the name of "High Caliber Round"
Maybe start adding actual numbers to damage values

Combat Trait

1
Sniper training
If Nova stands still for 3 seconds she gains stealth that persists for 5 seconds after moving or until she takes damage, her basic attacks deal more damage but have reduced attackspeed and have 20% increased range

Primary Abilities

Snipe
Fires a skillshot that deals high damage to the first enemy hit

Pinning shot
Fires a shell that deals light damage and slows target enemy unit by 30% for 2.5 seconds
3
Holo Decoy
Nova immediately enters cloak and creates a decoy at her current position for 5 seconds or until the decoy dies, Nova is allowed to move while cloaked for as long as the decoy is active

Heroic Abilities

Precision strike
Deal a high amount of area damage to target area after a short delay

High caliber round
Fires a moderately slow high caliber round at a target enemy that deals heavy amounts of damage to all targets hit, Deals less damage to each target hit by the round.

Level 1 talents

Psi-op rangefinder: Increase range of snipe by 20% and reduce the cooldown by 2 seconds

Careful shot: Increase pinning shot slow to 60%

Adrenaline rush: Movement speed is also increased by 25% while holo decoy is active

Proximity mine: Place a cloaked mine that grants vision in a small area and deals moderate damage to the first target that steps on it (30 second cooldown, 60 second duration, maximum of 2 charges)

Level 4 talents

Perfect shot: Snipe's damage is increased by 5% each time an enemy is hit, stacking up to 5 times. If snipe misses an enemy the bonus is lost

EMP Shell: Pinning shot also electrocutes all nearby enemies for moderate damage over the duration of the slow

Crippling shot: Pinning shot now applies vulnerable to the target for 2.5 seconds

Level 7 talents

Follow through: After using an ability your next auto attack hits for 40% more damage

Target marked: After using Pinning shot, your next auto attack shoots an additional nearby target (prioritizes heroes)

Lethal Decoy: Decoy now deals 25% damage

Heroic ability tier

Level 13 talents

Railgun: Snipe now penetrates enemies

Anti-armor shells: Auto attacks deal additional damage equal to 3% of the target's maximum health

Regenerative Decoy: Decoy also regenerates 30% of your health over the duration

Reactive decoy: Negate the first crowd control effect that strikes nova and trigger decoy's effects. This effect has a 30 second cooldown

Level 16 talents

Ambush snipe: After being cloaked for 2 seconds increase the range of snipe by 100% and the damage by 25%

Find weakness: Pinning shot gains a second charge, Firing pinning shot at a target already affected by pinning shot will stun it for 1 second

Advanced cloaking: Nova's stealth while moving now persists for 10 seconds and her next basic attack deals 30% more damage while cloaked or 1 second after leaving cloak

Level 20 Talents

Nuclear fallout: Precision barrage leaves a poison field that deals high amount of damage over time (equal to the total damage of precision barrage)

Drilling shot: High caliber round now applies vulnerable to all targets hit for 5 seconds

Fast reload: increase attackspeed by 200% and gain 20% increased range (this would her attackspeed "the same" as standard heroes like vanilla Raynor)

Bolt of the storm: Teleport your hero to target location (70 second cooldown)

"Target Marked" makes no sense, give it a re-read and revise what you mean, a ST attack making basics AOE? Huh? "Portable Stealth Field" sounds like it needs a rework compared to the current description, maybe just holo decoy the nearest friendly hero to the decoy placement? Or do you mean it should cloak the ally, as well? Making a ground target into a player target wouldn't work very well. Holos would need to fade to stealth when they stand to fire/attack, too, if they're of Nova, just to make an observation. "Fast Reload" would be OP as hell, especially with "Anti-Armor Shells". I'd prefer her current heroics. "Anti-Armor Shells" needs a drawback, namely slower attack speed, 5% is huge, but it's an arguably better talent than current as it's more useful against warriors. Replacing your basic attack damage with a flat 5% might be preferable if it changed to 5% max health from 250% extra basic damage.

Nova's biggest problems are three-fold: One, other ranged assassins bring more to the fight through control, utility, and escapes because she really ONLY brings damage; Two, she's too counterable in high level play due to the nature of cloak just needing a good eye; Three, laning with her defeats the purpose of her as she's also one of the worst laners in game excepting some supports and she only really gets strong late game, limiting her team value too much early on. You seem to have reasonably addressed some of that, but losing her move while cloaked is huge as now she's lost her ability to scout and move to a priority target during a team fight without being seen (moving in during the fight is when she should move in afterall). Having to holo to stealth just makes her even more obvious that she's there at that point. A better choice might be to have a "muzzle flash suppressor" talent that allows her to basic while cloaked (and is very minimally revealed each time) so long as she remains still within a window of time after the basic attack. This could increase range but would reduce attack speed, as well, only while cloaked and stationary.

Reducing her overall basic attack and her potential alpha strike damage would be necessary with such changes, but it sounds like good grounds for a rework so far.

Thank you for the feedback, I agree now that I have thought about it that "anti-armor shells is OP and nerfed it down to 3%. "Portable stealth field" was more of a crazy idea of mine to give Nova some kind of niche supportive ability but I agree that it is perhaps too weird to work well

I'm not a fan of your second heroic ability, "High Caliber Snipe", but I do like the combat trait you gave Nova.
