I see Swann as being in an SCV exoskeleton, and has immense healing potential but very limited defense. In a teamfight he has to rely on his teammates to win the game as he buffs them up as much as possible, because on his own he doesn't have the most damage or cc, and his health is only average. When out of combat however, he can heal just as well if not better than a Healing Fountain, and can potentially deal damage from across the map. He works great alongside a hyper-carry, but can also do amazing in poke-based compositions, or in conjunction with high-heath heroes.
Attack Drones are one of your biggest strengths. Baseline your damage is utterly pathetic, being melee and only marginally better than Abathur's, but your Drones have actually decent damage and can attack while moving. They also grant 10 armor, permanently, which stacks with other sources of armor. Even more importantly, you can place the Drone on ally heroes to give them armor and letting you attack from their position. The Drone does not have a leash range but you can't place it on allies who are too far away, so if you want you could stick it on an ally and soak a lane solo, so you can keep attacking from where they are. It's a good tool for poking and can give a warrior some much-valued durability.
Repair is your main healing tool, being capable of healing an ally practically to full over a rather long duration. The raw healing is very high but cannot be used in combat, so must be used when it is safe to do so. The cooldown is very long as well, but if you channel it the full duration you won't have to wait as long. It can also be used to repair your buildings, which is great and all but if you stick around repairing over and over your teammates will be all alone, so don't waste tons of time on that.
Grapple is a mobility skill, similar to Ancient Spear, except it cannot hit units. You must aim it at terrain to pull yourself to it, which might seem silly however the projectile moves very fast and the cooldown is really low, letting you dart all over the place. It's also your only solo damage ability, and with good positioning and aim you can even stun enemies with it, even though you aren't unstoppable during it.
EMP Charge provides some nice defense without dealing damage on its own. You have to place it preemptively giving enemies time to know it's there, but if you position around it enemies will be hesitant to trigger it at risk of an extremely powerful disable. The health is very low making it pretty easy to kill.
Restoration Pack is single-handedly the most convenient healing ability in the game, because if an ally thinks they're not getting healed then they can just heal themselves. It works as an item similar to Nukes and Turrets so make sure you keep your item slot open for that, although there is a failsafe where Swann can remove it from a hero who doesn't need it at will.
Shrike Turret is a more offensive ability that grants a great deal of sustained damage over a long period of time that doesn't really care what hero it's on. You can stick it on your main tank and it will deal just as much damage, for free!
