Author's Notes: Upon inspection, Holy Shield's original design was, in fact, significantly worse off than Medivh's Force of Will, despite having a higher overall cost. Thus, several changes were made so that Holy Shield is now more comparable in strength to Medivh's shields, while not taking up the exact same niche.
In addition, Sigon's health pool was a bit too low considering that he's meant to be a gap-bridger between tank and support. He's now got health more comparable to that of Tyrael.
December 2, 2016: v1.0.3
- Added attack range, ability design, and range information.
Also, Holy Shield does not "shield", contrary to its name. In Diablo 2, Holy Shield was a means of damage reduction, and I've kept to that design here. It's basically dropping Resistant on top of Sigon or his ally. So it's far closer to a Medivh shield than anything else. To that end, however, I may have grossly overestimated how powerful it is, considering how much better Medivh's shield really is. I'll probably have to buff it significantly as it's actually woefully weak in its present form.
As for the notion that it seems odd for him not to be a support, I should note that in Diablo 2, the Paladin is actually a warrior-type class with a lot of support capabilities. Because of the way auras are designed in that game, you generally don't spec heavily into several of them at once because you only can get use out of one at a time as a paladin (except, of course, for equipment that lets you wield multiple auras). Ergo, the general plan for a D2 Paladin was to invest heavily in a particular handful of auras and then pump the damage abilities so he can fight for himself. To that end, Sigon is actually designed as a warrior with significant support capabilities. He has a baseline aura of your choice, plus a shield ability for him and his allies, two ults that provide support benefits to his allies, and the ability to peel with Smite. That's about as support-oriented as it gets while still keeping him a warrior.
