Tirion Fordring

Highlord of the Argent Crusade

One of the first of the Knights of the Silver Hand, Tirion Fordring sacrificed his title, his lands and his life with his family to save the orc Eitrigg, holding his honor and what he knew to be truly right above all. For years, he lived in exile as Lordaeron fell to the undead Scourge and the corrupt Scarlet Crusade. But when his son fell in battle, Tirion rose with newfound conviction, forming the Argent Crusade to fight against all the evils of the world, no matter their form or nature. In the Battle of Light's Hope Chapel, it was Tirion Fordring whose touch purified the corrupted Ashbringer, raising it as a shining holy blade once more. It was Tirion Fordring who fought beside the adventurers of Azeroth and shattered the cursed blade Frostmourne in the final battle with the Lich King, Arthas. And it is Tirion Fordring and his Argent Crusaders who continue to fight with faith in the Light to protect their world.

Tirion is a melee Assassin from the Warcraft Universe.

Level 1 stats:

Health: 1704
Health Regeneration: 3.5
Holy Power: 100 max
Attack Damage: 130
Attack Speed: 1.0

Combat Trait

1
Ashbringer
Tirion uses Holy Power in place of mana, which is generated by his basic attacks at a rate of 10 per basic attack. Activate to have Tirion's next basic attack hit instantly for double damage and generate an additional 10 Holy Power. 12 second cooldown.

Primary Abilities

1
Wake of Ashes
40 Holy Power, 8 second cooldown. Tirion slams down the Ashbringer, burning a cone in front of him with holy energies. Enemies struck take 143 (+4% per level) damage, and the area burns for 6 seconds, burning enemies inside it for 36 (+4% per level) damage per second and healing allied heroes for 47 (+4% per level) per second.
2
Judgment
50 Holy Power, 6 second cooldown. Tirion judges an enemy hero, dealing 178 (+4% per level) damage to them. They then take an additional 36 (+4% per level) damage for every 10 Holy Power Tirion has remaining.
3
Blessing of Haste
40 Holy Power, 8 second cooldown. Tirion blesses an allied hero, increasing their movement speed by 30% for 4 seconds.

Heroic Abilities

1
Ashbringer's Fury
100 second cooldown. Tirion channels for 1 second, then leaps to his target and strikes them for 236 (+4% per level) damage. The target is Silenced and Blinded for 4 seconds. If Tirion's target leaves the ability's casting range while he is channeling, Ashbringer's Fury is cancelled and the cooldown reduced to 20 seconds.
2
Avenging Wrath
80 second cooldown. Tirion ignites with holy energies, increasing his ability damage and attack speed by 40% for 8 seconds, and also making his basic abilities and trait have no cooldown during that time.

Notes:

Tirion is a hero I'd love to see in Heroes of the Storm, in part because he's one of my favourite Hearthstone legendaries and in part because he's a juggernaut in the Warcraft universe, controlling one of the most powerful neutral factions in the Argent Crusade. The obvious difficulty with Tirion is obviously that Uther's in the game, but Tirion thankfully distinguishes himself by using the Ashbringer, which leaves him open to have Retribution Paladin options to contrast Uther's Holy Paladin. So Tirion became an Assassin to emphasise the damage-dealing role.

His trait is deliberately meant to mirror Arthas' Frostmourne, since the two were archenemies in WotLK. Tirion uses Holy Power to differentiate himself from Uther more and also to play with a resource he can only gain by attacking or talents. It's akin to Sonya's Fury in that respect. I might possibly need to give him more Holy Power generators or buff the existing ones admittedly.

Wake of Ashes was originally flat-out called Consecration, but I borrowed a name from one of the Ashbringer artifact's abilities because it sounded cooler. The ability is meant to be Tirion's sustain option while also using the ground burned by holy fire image I love and wanted to work into him. It's also Tirion's waveclear ability. So it has a lot going for it, possibly too much.

Judgment is a straightforward single target nuke, so I gave it some more thought with the Holy Power for additional damage clause. That way you have to weigh up whether it's worth spending HP on Blessing of Haste for chase, or if you think you can finish the enemy off with an empowered Judgment.

Blessing of Haste is Tirion's chase ability and very simplistic since the idea is to buff it with talents like Seal of Light to make it better.

Ashbringer's Fury was inspired by Tirion's breaking of Frostmourne, and the intent is the same: it renders the target completely unable to strike back by disabling both their basic attacks and their abilities. It's essentially a 'kill this hero' symbol when you use it. It has the higher cooldown because it's so potentially powerful to take an enemy completely out of the fight for 4 seconds while still leaving them killable.

Avenging Wrath got the other heroic slot because it's an iconic Paladin ability. Its purpose is basically to make Tirion into a monster for 8 seconds by letting him spam everything as fast as he generates Holy Power. I may add a clause to it giving Tirion more HP generation during Avenging Wrath to help with that, though it's nasty as it is.

Banner of the Argent Crusade happened because of Varian. I love his banner mechanic and decided to give Tirion a version of it to reflect the Argent Crusade.
