Your Hero DescriptionValerian Megnsk is the son of Emperor Arcturus Mengsk; the despite who ceased control over the Terran Colonies after the successful campaign against the Confederacy. Valerian sought another path than the willful wake of his father's destructive destiny. He knew that for humanity to survive in this corner of the galaxy, they would have to seek alliances. Terran's couldn't placate to their racist nature. Unity is his goal and if that means he needs to be a Dominion Renegade from his father's forces on Korhal, so be it. He'd lead weather it was from a battle cruiser in orbit or on the front line.
Combat Trait
1
Elite Armor (D)
Valerian's armor is tough as nails. While in tact it deflects 90% of damage, but as it wears down, he takes more damage and also deals more damage. Only healing from the wells, the fountain or staying out of combat will repair Valerian's Elite Armor. Once the armor is destroyed, Valerian's has no more damage mitigation. Because of the weight of Elite Armor, Valerian moves 10% slower than other heroes.
The cooldown on wells for Valerian is 50%, but so is the health and mana they replenish.
Valerian can hit N to remove his armor completely increasing his damage by 250% and removing his armor bonus completely.
Primary Abilities
1
Gavel (Q)
Swing Gavel rooting the closest enemy unit and knocking the rest away dealing X (+x per level) to the closest enemy unit and Y (+y per level) to the units further away.
[Area of Effect]
2
Gun Down (W)
Deals X (+x per level) damage to units in front of Valerian and Y (+y per level) more damage per second. Lasts 3 seconds.
[Cone Attack]
3
Jump Jets (E)
Valerian jumps into the air increasing his movement speed by 20% and avoids all obstacles while Jump Jets are active. Activate Jump Jets again to slam into the ground dealing X (+x per level) damage and stunning all enemy units in the area. Jump jets fail after 3 seconds of continuous use and will force Valerian to slam into the ground after that time expires.
I think it makes for a more convincing top down approach to Valerian too. Valerian himself often comes across more as an assassin in context of heroes (as does MOST potential HOTS candidates). This gives him the ability to come through as a tank without fully removing the idea that he should probalby be an assassin.
What drives me nuts about figuring out what to do for him is the ults that feel natural is Battle Cruiser and Odin. Those are obviously on Raynor and Tychus respectively.
I need a new concept that feels right.
I feel like at least one of his ults should deal with the changes between the suit.
That also being said, I'm asurably going to give Valerian a talent that helps him manage his suit better allowing him to focus more and allow him to focus on being a tank or DPS more. It's my intention to allow him to be a full on hybrid based on the current match.
Maybe. I'm not going to deny a lot of this hero is ripped right out of Dawn of War where the base skills are concerned. The armor idea is fresh as far as I know, though it's gleamed a little from the idea of Samus in Smash Bros Brawl.
The idea is I want Valerian to be a full on tank while in the armor and be a perpetual assassin while out of the armor. I tried to tailor the skills so that his game play wasn't completely different in and out of the suit.
I'll maul over the speed idea, but you might be right.
I have a few heroes I am trying to get basic outlines for before fleshing them out.
They are:
- Gabriel (D2 Paladin - Assassin)
- Auriel (D3 Archangel of Hope - Support)
- Mephisto (D3 Prime Evil - Support)
- Anduin Wrynn (WoW Prince of Stormwind - Support)
- Valerian Mengsk (SC2 - Warrior)
- Fenix (SC2 - Warrior)
- Ariel Hanson (SC2 - Support)
These are all concepts to fill in gaps in the current lineups. I'll be working out early balancing numbers and talents for each of them AFTER the framework for each is fleshed out.
Please be patient in commenting. If you specifically don't like a concept, feel free to talk about it, but please keep inside the context that this is only frame work.
