Velen

The Light's Prophet

Velen has been the leader of the draenei people since their flight from Argus 25,000 years before the first orcish invasion of Azeroth. Known by his people as the Prophet, he has been granted the gift of Sight, and — aided by the Light — rejected offers of dark power from Sargeras and has guided his people as they fled from, and later fought against, the Burning Legion and their former eredar brethren. He is first among the draenei and is the arch-nemesis (formerly best friend) of Kil'jaeden. - Wow Wiki

*Note: this is an older design that I brushed up recently in a few small ways to modernize*

In designing Velen, I opted to focus on his status as the Light's Prophet rather than his priestliness. There are a lot of potential priest characters and some overlap with Paladins there as well, so this is a unique design niche that Velen can occupy, that allows a really important character to be around and feel true to his lore.

I also wanted to play with the Prophecy side of him because it seemed more interesting from a gameplay standpoint. If Velen is able to correctly read the flow of battle, his abilities are very impactful, and if his team is able to leverage that impact Velen can scale tremendously through the spell power bonus on his trait. Velen's talents give him a lot of flexibility, with different ways to gain vision of his enemies at Level 1, and paths to either give him more damage, more support, or more utility. I didn't want to make a lot of "build around X ability" builds for him, though there is an obvious E build.

I didn't want to *totally* un-priest him, so his ultimates embrace his Light side. They also leverage any spell power bonuses he's earned more heavily than anything else in his kit.

I picture Velen as support, but not a healer. He's meant to be like Medivh, but with a focus on high-level Macro skill rather than micro skill. He has good potential sustain for both damage and support, but there would be a big gap between a Velen played well and a Velen played poorly.

Combat Trait

Gift of Prophecy
Velen reads the future, making a prediction about an enemy hero. If this hero dies within 4 seconds of Velen's prediction, he gains a permanent 1% Ability Power bonus.

This effect is considered a 'Successful Prophecy'. Whenever this or another Prophecy is successful, Velen recovers 2% of his Maximum Mana.

This trait is an Active Ability used with [D]. Its target is revealed for its duration.

Cooldown: 20 seconds.

Primary Abilities

Predict Conflict
Velen selects an Allied Hero to make a Prophecy. This hero is healed for 100 Health. If this hero takes more than 10% of their Life in damage over the next 3 seconds, they are healed for 50% of the damage taken. The Prophecy reveals the Allied Hero to the enemy.

Triggering this effect counts as a successful Prophecy.

Cooldown: 10 Seconds.

Mana Cost: 50 Mana.

Predict Healing
Velen selects an Enemy Hero to make a Prophecy. This hero is dealt 100 damage. If this hero receives healing or shielding totaling more than 10% of their life, they receive half that value in damage when this ability expires. This ability reveals the enemy hero for its duration.

Triggering this effect counts as a successful Prophecy.

Cooldown: 10 Seconds.

Mana Cost: 60 mana.

Eredar Vision
Velen deals 75 damage to all currently revealed Enemy Heroes, and all Allied Heroes within Velen's vision range for 75 Health.

This ability effects enemy Heroes on a global range. Heroes revealed by sources other than Velen are effected.

Cooldown: 8 seconds.

Mana Cost: 25 Mana.

Reveal a large area of the map on a near-global scale. (Think Chromie's reveal ability).

Cooldown: 20 seconds.

Toggle the armor provided by Predict Conflict between Physical and Spell Armor.

Heroic Abilities

Holy Nova
Velen radiates a pulse of Holy Light from his body, that moves slowly outward to the edge of his vision range. Enemy Heroes hit are dealt 200 Damage and Allied Heroes are Healed for 100 Health.

Cooldown: 70 Seconds

Mana Cost: 80 Mana

Holy Blast
Velen blasts a single Enemy Hero at a range of up to 2 Units with Holy Light, dealing 150 Damage and knocking them back 4 Units.

Cooldown: 20 Seconds.
Mana Cost: 40 Mana.

Talents

Level 1:



Knowledge is Power: (Quest)

(Objective):

Maintain revealed status on Enemy Heroes for a collective 400 Seconds.

(Rewards):

At 200 Seconds, Velen's vision radius expands by 25%.

At 400 Seconds, Velen's Auto-Attacks reveal enemy heroes for 3 seconds.

One True Prophet:

Gain the Active Ability, Foresight.

Pasive: Enemy heroes who reveal Velen receive 50 damage per second he is revealed.

*Note: this is spell damage, and would be effected by Velen's trait scaling*

Omniscience:

Increase the duration of Gift of Prophecy's Active Effect by 2 Seconds, and its cooldown by 5 seconds.

Level 4:



Shared Faith:

Whenever Velen heals an ally, their movement speed is increased by 10% for 4 seconds. Can stack up to 20%. Stacks refresh decay.

Burden of Prophecy:

If the Prophecy of Predict Healing is successful, each healing source receives 25% of the value of their healing in damage.

Prophet's Conviction:

Successful Prophecies grant Velen a shield equal to 5% of his Maximum Life, which lasts until destroyed. The total value of this shield cannot exceed 20% of his maximum life.

Level 7:



Time's Arrow:

Successful Prophecies lower the cooldown of Velen's basic abilities by 1 second.

Knowledge of Self:

Casting Predict Conflict on an ally casts it on Velen as well.

Light's Arbiter:

Whenever Velen receives healing, the source of that healing receives healing equal to 50% of that heal's value.

Lingering Vision:

Eredar Vision refreshes the duration of any active reveal effects on enemies within Velen's vision range.

Vision of Hope:

All allies in Velen's vision range are healed by Eredar Vision, regardless of reveal status.

Eredar Vengeance:

If an ally dies under the effects of Predict Conflict, Velen's next 2 Auto-Attacks deal an additional 200 spell damage.

*Note: This damage does not scale but is effected by spell power bonuses.*

Level 16:



Fate's Fury:

Successful Prophecies grant a bonus 2% Spell Power. This bonus lasts 5 Seconds, but a new success resets the decay and adds a stack, up to 10%.

Gift of Prophecy:

Eredar Vision's cooldown is reduced by 1 second for each effected enemy hero. Cannot be reduced below 3 Seconds.

Predict Damage:

Predict Conflict grants its target either 50 Spell Armor or 50 Physical Armor. This armor lasts until the opposite damage type is received, at which point it remains for 1 Second. The first time the correct damage type is received counts as a successful Prophecy.

Adds Secondary Ability, Predict Damage, to toggle the predicted damage type.

Level 20:



Blessed Nova:

Holy Nova leaves a lingering flame across half of Velen's vision range that lasts 4 Seconds, healing allies for 50 Health per second and dealing 75 damage per second to enemies.

Condemnation:

Holy Blast reduces its target's armor by 25 for 3 Seconds.

Blind Prophet:

Velen's Auto-Attacks Blind enemies for 2 Seconds.

Eredar Wisdom:

Eredar Vision grants Velen's current Ability Power Bonus from his Trait to Allies it heals.
