The Prophet

LORE

Velen has been the leader of the draenei people since their flight from Argus 25,000 years before the first orcish invasion of Azeroth. As his title entails, he has been granted the gift of sight, and - aided by the Light - has guided his people as they fled from, and later fought against, the Burning Legion.

ROLE

Ranged Support
Difficulty: Hard

Velen would function primarily as a Solo Support character, bringing strong healing and sustain abilities, while also being capable of outputting a surprising amount of damage when left unchecked. Many of his abilities and talents are inspired by the Holy and Discipline specializations of Priests in World of Warcraft.

With the right talent choices, Velen would excel at keeping his allies in the fight over long engagements with his various healing tools, lightwell.

Between his two Heroic abilities, Velen has the choice to pursue two facets of battlefield control: Mistake Recovery or Hero Denial.

* Resurrection allows Velen to correct positioning and engagement mistakes by completely negating the death timer once every 1.5 minutes. But the ability is risky given its long cast time, and is not intended to be used in the heat of battle where he could otherwise be healing his team.
* Mind Control brings a new threat to the table, similar to Abathur's Ultimate Evolution, but with a more sinister twist. With Mind Control Velen can instantly turn any 5v5 fight into a 4v4 - so even if you have the superior team composition there is always the risk that you're the one Velen chooses to control!

Many of Velen's abilities serve a dual purpose to give him great build diversity and offer him the ability to choose what needs to be done. Penance must be used with great care - do you use it to harass that enemy and potentially secure a kill? Or wait for an ally to be in need of healing?

Which hero is the best target for Thoughtsteal? Do you take your allied Johanna's Condemn to assist with crowd control, or steal the enemy Leoric's drain hope to keep yourself alive and crush the enemy tank!

Even Holy nova requires smart gameplay as the healing and damage are both affected by the number of people hit! If everybody is low it might be best to get right in the thick of things and nova to your heart's content. But if only 1 or 2 allies/enemies are low, it might be best to position yourself in such a way to only hit them.


Combat Trait

Lightwell
Mana: 10
Cooldown: 50 seconds.

Summon a Lightwell at nearby target location that lasts for 10 seconds or until destroyed. Lightwells function as a mobile Healing Fountain, healing & restoring the same amount of HP and Mana as clicking a fountain. The Lightwell is immune to AoE damage and must be targeted directly.

Using a Lightwell gives the player the 100 second Healing Fountain debuff. Meaning that Lightwells and Healing Fountains share their cooldown.

Primary Abilities

Cooldown: 8 Seconds

Heal an ally for x Health, or Deal y damage to target enemy.

Thoughtsteal
Mana: 80
Cooldown: Variable (depends on ability copied)

Copy the "W" ability of target allied or enemy hero for 1 use.

If that hero does not have a "W" ability, the cooldown of Thoughtsteal is immediately refunded.

The cooldown of Thoughtsteal is equal to the cooldown of the ability copied by Thoughsteal, and begins after the ability is used.

Holy Nova
Mana: 60
Cooldown: 3 seconds

Heal allied units and damage enemy units in an area around Velen. Velen is unaffected by the Holy Nova heal.

Healing is dispersed evenly among all allies struck by Holy Nova. (Fewer allies hit = stronger heal per ally)

Damage is dispersed evenly among all enemies struck by Holy Nova. (Fewer enemies hit = more damage per enemy)

Heroic Abilities

Resurrection
Mana: 100
Cooldown: 90 seconds

After 4 seconds, return target dead allied hero to life. The resurrected hero reappears next to Velen at 20% HP and Mana.

Mind Control
Mana: 110
Cooldown: 180 seconds

Velen gains control of target enemy hero and can cast all of their basic abilities as well as activate their trait while they are under his control. Cannot move while channeling. Being damaged while channeling reduces the channel time remaining by 1 second. Lasts 10 seconds.

A Mind Controlled hero counts as a Neutral enemy for the purpose of damaging spells.

(This is a short range spell, with a cast range of approximately the base range of Jaina's W or Malfurion's E)

TIER 1 TALENTS

Conjurer's Pursuit (Passive)

Collecting Regeneration Globes permanently increases Mana Regeneration by 0.1015 per second.

Power Word: Shield (Active)

Activate to shield an allied hero for 25% of their MAX HP for 5 seconds.

Haste (Passive)

Using any ability lowers the cooldowns of your other basic abilities by 1 second.

Improved Lightwell (D+)

Lightwells now immediately heal for 25% of their total healing amount when activated, rather than as a heal over time.

TIER 2 TALENTS

Gift of Sight (Active)

Activate to reveal an area for 15 seconds. Enemies in the area are revealed for 6 seconds.

Holier Nova (E+)

Increase the radius of Holy Nova by 25%

Clearcasting (Passive)

Every third spellcast causes your next basic ability to cost 0 mana.

Atonement (Q+)

Casting Penance on an enemy hero refunds 50% of the mana and reduces the cooldown by 4 seconds.

TIER 3 TALENTS

Improved Thoughts (W+)

Abilities copied by Thoughtsteal cost no mana to cast.

Purify (Active)

Activate to remove all stuns, roots, silences, and slows from the target, and prevent their reapplication for 1 second. (Velen gets to keep old cleanse)

Gift of the Naaru (D+)

Lightwell will now automatically cast upon Velen's Death.

Slowy Nova (E+)

Enemies struck by Holy nova have their movement speed reduced by 12% for 3.5 seconds. This effect can stack up to 4 times. 

TIER 4 TALENTS

Resurrection

After 4 seconds, return target dead allied hero to life. The resurrected hero reappears next to Velen at 20% HP and Mana.

Mind Control


Velen gains control of target enemy hero and can cast all of their basic abilities as well as activate their trait while they are under his control. Cannot move while channeling. Being damaged while channeling reduces the channel time remaining by 1 second. Lasts 10 seconds.

TIER 5 TALENTS

Fade (Active)

After a brief delay, Velen becomes stealthed for 4 seconds.

Projection (Q+)

When targeting an enemy with Penance, nearby allies are healed for 50% of the damage dealt.


Force of Will (Passive)

Allies that are slowed/stunned/incapacitated receive 25% more healing from Velen's abilities.

Bitter Thoughts (W+)

Thoughtsteal now silences the target for 1 second when cast on an enemy.

TIER 6 TALENTS

Please Click It! (D+)

Heroes may now activate the lightwell once without incurring the Healing Fountain Debuff. If activated a second time then the debuff will apply as normal.

Holiest Nova (E+)

Holy Nova's healing/damage is no longer evenly dispersed among allies/enemies hit, but instead has full effect on all allies/enemies affected.

Improved Power Word: Shield (Active+)

Power Word: Shield now heals for 100% of the damage shielded over 7 seconds.

And Mana Too! (D+)

Lightwell now restores mana equal to the amount of health recovered.

Masterful Thoughts (W+)

The ability stolen by thoughsteal can be cast a second time if activated within 3 seconds.

TIER 7 TALENTS

True Resurrection

Cooldown is reduced to 60 seconds, and the Resurrected hero now comes back at 75% HP/Mana.

Mind Dominance

Increase the cast range of Mind Control by 100%, and if the channel completes uninterrupted reduce the cooldown of Mind Control by 50%.

Bolt of the Storm

Activate to teleport to a nearby location

Holy Power

Activate to instantly restore 400 mana, and increase Healing/Damage done by 10% for 5 seconds.
