Defias Kingpin

A Melee Assassin with sustainability and precise Ability combos to destroy enemies.

After Venessa witnessing the murder of her father, Edwin VanCleef, by agents of Stormwind, she went into hiding and swore revenge on those responsible for what they had done. From the shadows and under the guise of Hope Saldean, she revitalized the Defias Brotherhood, her father's gang of bandits and pirates, and sought out the people who had wronged her and her father.

Tips:
-Roll the Bones grants strong but brief bonuses for a variety of situations. Plan your attack carefully and make sure you have the Combo Points to last for the fight.
-Saber Slash gives you an option to jump in and deal some area damage. Grand Melee is a good follow-up since you will already be in the fight and ready to attack.
-Pistol Shot is a simple skillshot, but can be used frequently due to Saber Slash's reset mechanic. Use Jolly Roger while low on Combo Points to finish enemies off since the damage bonus is consistent.
-Crimson Vial can keep you in a fight or bring you back into it faster at a high Energy cost. Buried Treasure can compensate for its Energy and then some to deal high damage quickly.
-Vengeance of VanCleef is another payoff option for your Combo Points and can net you several takedowns quickly. Shark Infested Waters can help reach this end or otherwise help in another skirmish if you wait.
-Cannonball Barrage has strong delayed damage and can make it easy to finish enemies off due to the following slow. Broadsides can be useful in finishing those foes off and setting up for anymore fights afterwards with bonus Combo Points.

Cooldown: 20 seconds

Vanessa uses Energy and Combo Points for her Abilities (similar to Valeera), stacking up to 5 Combo points (Combo points are only lost on use or death). Activate to spend your Combo Points to gain a bonus based on the Last Ability used. The bonus lasts 2 seconds per Combo Point spent.

Primary Abilities

Saber Slash
Energy: 20
Cooldown: 6 seconds


Lunge and slash forward, dealing 150 (+4%) damage to enemies in a small area in front of you. Hitting an enemy Hero resets the cooldown of Pistol Shot. Awards 1 Combo Point and 1 per Hero hit after the first.

Grand Melee: Roll the Bones increases your Attack Speed by 50% and Basic Attacks heal for 50% of the damage dealt.

Pistol Shot
Energy: 30
Cooldown: 10 seconds


Fire a quick shot forward, dealing 190 (+4%) damage to the first enemy hit. Awards 1 Combo Point.

Jolly Roger: Roll the Bones increases the damage and lunge distance of your next Saber Slash by 100% or the damage of your next Pistol Shot by 100% and allow it to pierce all enemies.

Crimson Vial
Energy: 50
Cooldown: 20 seconds


Drink a potion, healing 400 (+4%) Health over 10 seconds.

Buried Treasure: Roll the Bones increases Energy regeneration and Basic Ability cooldown recharge rate by 100%. Does not affect Roll the Bones.

Heroic Abilities

Vengeance of VanCleef
Cooldown: 90 seconds

Spend up to 5 Combo Points and increase your Basic Attack damage and Speed by 15% per Combo Point spent for 5 seconds. Takedowns during its duration award 5 Combo Points and reset the duration.

Shark Infested Waters: Roll the Bones causes your Basic Attacks to reduce Armor by 5 for 2.5 seconds, up to 30.

Cannonball Barrage
Cooldown: 100 seconds

After 1.5 seconds, the Defias fire 3 cannons at an area, each shot dealing 260 (+4%) damage and slowing enemies hit by 50% for 2 seconds.

Broadsides: Roll the Bones increases Spell Power by 20% and causes Saber Slash and Pistol Shot to award an additional Combo Point.

Level 1 Talents

Riposte (Q): Hitting an enemy Hero with Saber Slash grants a stack of Riposte for 3 seconds, reducing the damage of the next Heroic Basic Attack against you by 100% and dealing damage equal to the damage blocked to that Hero. Stores 1 charge.

Grappling Hook (Active): Activate to launch a hook in a direction, pulling you to the first terrain hit. 45 second cooldown.

Iron Stomach (Passive): You receive 25% bonus healing from Heroic sources. Buried Treasure doubles this bonus.

Level 4 Talents

Boarding Party (W): Pistol Shot grants nearby allied Heroes 15% bonus Movement Speed for 3 seconds.

Blade Flurry (Active): Activate to make your Basic Attacks cleave for 60% damage but cost 10 Energy. Can be toggled.

Anticipation (Passive): You may stack up to 10 Combo Points, but only spend up to 5 at a time.

Level 7 Talents

Ghostly Strike (Q): Saber Slash reduces Spell Armor by 20 for 2 seconds.

Quickdraw (W): For 2 seconds after hitting an enemy Hero with Saber Slash, Pistol Shot deals 50% more damage and awards an additional Combo Point.

Acrobatic Strikes (D): Grand Melee grants 25% bonus Movement Speed and causes your Basic Attacks to dash you towards your enemies.
Passive: Landing 3 consecutive Basic Attacks on a Hero within 5 seconds grants a Combo Point.

Level 13 Talents

Honor Among Thieves (D): Whenever a nearby Ally hits an enemy Hero with a Basic Ability, you are awarded a Combo Point. Cannot occur more than once every 4 seconds per Hero.

Drink up me Hearties (E): Crimson Vial heals nearby allied Heroes for 50%.

Loaded Dice (D): While you have no Combo Points, activate Roll the Bones then another Ability to choose your bonus next time you use Roll the Bones.

Level 16 Talents

Swordmaster (Q): Reduce the cooldown of Saber Slash by 1 second per enemy Hero hit.

Between the Eyes (W): Jolly Roger increases the damage of your next Pistol Shot by an additional 20% per Combo Point spent, but no longer pierces additional enemies.

Control is King (Passive): Attacking an enemy that is stunned, silenced, or rooted increases Basic Attack damage by 50% for 3 seconds.

Level 20 Talents

Plunder Armor (R): Vengeance of VanCleef's cooldown refreshes 10% faster per Combo Point. Shark Infested Waters reduces up to 100% more Armor per Basic Attack if the Hero has Armor. You gain Armor equal to the bonus Armor removed this way for 2 seconds.

Concussive Salvo (R): Cannonball Barrage fires an additional shot and enemies hit by 2 or more shots are stunned for 1 second. Broadsides increases Spell Power by an additional 4% per Combo Point spent.

Gambler (D): Reduces Roll the Bones' cooldown by 50%.

Killing Spree (Active): Activate to jump to an enemy and rapidly Basic Attack them 8 times. If Blade Flurry is active, the Attacks cleave for 100% damage and cost no additional Energy. Takedowns reset this cooldown. 240 second cooldown.
