Vorazun

Matriarch of the Nerazim

This hero concept is complete! I am open to suggestions as far as refining the balance of this hero.

Vorazun is the daughter of Raszagal, whom Zeratul killed during the Brood Wars. For this act, she never fully forgave him, and the weight of that burden is one that he carried with him into his self-imposed exile. She was formerly not on good terms with Artanis, either, even after he supported her ascension to the position of Matriarch over the Dark Templar after the death of Mohandar. However, circumstances involved in the reclamation of Aiur and the subsequent invasion and destruction of Shakuras brought them together as allies with some degree of mutual respect. With Aiur reclaimed and the Dark Templar's future secure, Vorazun now leads the Dark Templar into a brighter future, while still walking the shadowed path.

Vorazun in Starcraft 2 wields permanent cloaking and a kit very similar to a Dark Templar. This, naturally, makes it hard to differentiate her from the two existing perma-cloak heroes. Thus, Vorazun is designed to function quite differently from Nova or Zeratul, and the biggest difference is the class: Vorazun is actually stated as a specialist. She has very low health, but also shields that regenerate quickly while she is in stealth. As a result, Vorazun is extremely squishy under sustained pressure from an enemy team, but excels at jumping in and out of combat to keep regenerating her shields while she harasses the enemy's lanes and disrupts their flow. Vorazun's wave clear is fairly strong overall, and she can pick up talents that make it even easier for her to keep that pressure up.

Hero Type: Melee Specialist
Difficulty: Hard

Pros:
  • Vorazun's shields allow her to soak up a small amount of damage and recover from it much more quickly than most heroes, due to her increased regeneration rate on shields.
  • Vorazun can combine Black Hole with Shadow Fury for wave clearing.
  • Shadow Fury also works well as a means of focusing down enemy heroes that are roaming by themselves.
  • Vorazun can escape from a dangerous situation with Shadow Dash.
  • Vorazun has a lot of utility in her heroic selection. She can use Summon Dark Pylon to help stealth her team and set up a critical ambush, or she can use Time Stop to give her allies an opportunity to deal considerable damage to the enemy while they are frozen in place.

Cons:
  • Vorazun lacks the health to survive a sustained fight, forcing her to play cautiously and only engage to help her team secure kills. This can limit what she is able to do in a team fight.
  • Vorazun's Shadow Fury will be less effective if there are multiple targets in range when she casts it. Even just one additional target means that the intended target will only get hit half as often, which makes Shadow Fury perform somewhat poorly in a team fight scenario.
  • Vorazun is dependent on Shadow Dash and her stealth to get her out of dangerous combat situations. Sufficient pressure to keep her from cloaking will make it impossible for her to survive combat.
  • Vorazun's Dark Pylon, much like Xul's Skeletal Mages, is easily focused and destroyed, meaning it will likely never last for the full duration.
  • Vorazun's Time Stop requires a channeling time before it activates. Stuns and silences will prevent her from ever getting to use it.

Note: All figures shown on this hero concept page are listed at their baseline figures (Lvl 0).

Health: 705 HP (+4%)
Shield: 423 HP (+4%)
Health Regen: 1.45 HP per second (+4%)
Shield Regen: 4.36 HP per second (+4%)

Resource: Mana
Mana: 490 (+10)
Mana Regen: 2.9 per second (+0.1)

Attack Damage: 135 (+4%)
Attack Speed: 1.11

Attack Range: 1.5

Combat Trait

1
Veil of Shadows
Vorazun gains stealth when out of combat for 3 seconds. Being attacked or attacking an enemy will remove her stealth. Shields only regenerate while Vorazun is in stealth.

Primary Abilities

1
Shadow Fury (Q)
Mana Cost: 50
Cooldown: 12 seconds

Vorazun teleports around within a certain area around her current position for 2 seconds, striking up to 6 times on randomly selected enemy minions, mercenaries, or Heroes. This can occur multiple times on the same target if there are not enough unique targets to strike within range. Each strike deals 71 (+4%) damage. Vorazun returns to her current position after the final strike, or after running out of targets to strike within the cast range.

Ability Type: Targeted Attacks Selected at Random
Ability Range: 5.5
2
Black Hole (W)
Mana Cost: 70
Cooldown: 20 seconds

Vorazun places a black hole on the field which pulls enemy minions and mercenaries in a swirling motion around the center of the black hole for 3 seconds, during which time they will take 20% increased damage.

Ability Type: Circular AoE in the targeted area
Ability Range: Targeting range is 4.5, Vortex radius is 4
3
Shadow Dash (E)
Mana Cost: 80
Cooldown: 10 seconds

Vorazun teleports to a chosen location. Using this ability does not break her stealth. If Vorazun is not currently in stealth when this ability is used, she will re-enter stealth 1 second faster and cannot be removed from stealth by damage for 1 second afterwards.

Ability Type: Self-Cast
Ability Range: Leap range is 7

Heroic Abilities

1
Summon Dark Pylon (R)
Mana Cost: 90
Cooldown: 60 seconds

Vorazun summons a Dark Pylon onto the targeted location for up to 10 seconds, with timed life and a large radius of effect. Allied Heroes within the radius of the Dark Pylon enter stealth. Using attacks or abilities while inside the effective range of the pylon will not break stealth. Stealth is removed when the pylon is destroyed.

Ability Type: Targeted
Ability Range: 6
2
Time Stop (R)
Mana Cost: 110
Cooldown: 120 seconds

Vorazun channels for 2 seconds, then freezes time in the area around her. All enemy minions, mercenaries, structures, and Heroes in the vicinity of Vorazun when she activates this ability are frozen in place for 5 seconds and cannot act.

Ability Type: Circular AoE surrounding the user
Ability Range: 7.5

Talents

Level 1:

  • Nerazim Regeneration - Quest: Gathering Regeneration Globes increase Vorazun's health regeneration rate by 0.25 per second and her shield regeneration by 0.75 per second, up to a maximum of 7.5 and 22.5 respectively. Reward: Gain 75 health and 225 shields.
  • Defense in the Shadows - Entering stealth grants Vorazun 2 stacks of Block.
  • Shadow Walk (Q) - Quest: Strike 50 killing blows on enemy minions, mercenaries, or Heroes with Shadow Fury. Kills achieved within 1 second of Shadow Fury's completion will also count. Reward: Shadow Fury now strikes 8 times.

Level 4:

  • Mind Control - Enemy minions killed near Vorazun grant a stack of Bribe. Hero Takedowns grant 5 stacks of Bribe. Use 30 stacks to take permanent control of an enemy mercenary. Does not work on bosses. Maximum of 60 stacks.
  • Behind the Veil - Vorazun's health regenerates twice as fast while she is shielded.
  • They Cannot Fight What They Cannot See (E) - Vorazun enters stealth immediately after using Shadow Dash if she is not already. This will still trigger Shadow Dash's 1 second immunity to stealth removal.
  • Improved Blink (E) - Shadow Dash's range is increased by 20%.

Level 7:

  • Hidden Steps (Q) - Vorazun remains in stealth while Shadow Fury is active, and does not leave stealth until after Shadow Fury has finished.
  • Confusion (W) - Enemy minions and mercenaries that emerge from Black Hole will become Confused for 4 seconds and will begin attacking the nearest friendly target.
  • Fall Back to the Shadows (E) - Vorazun's Shadow Dash cooldown is automatically reset with Hero Takedowns.

Level 10:

  • Summon Dark Pylon (R) - As above.
  • Time Stop (R) - As above.

Level 13:

  • Nerazim Swiftness - Identical to the "Sprint" talent on other heroes.
  • Summon Shadow Guard (Q) - When Vorazun uses Shadow Fury, a pair of after-images that look like Vorazun appear in the same space and also cast Shadow Fury. They have 30% of her health and 20% of her damage, and they continue to move and attack for 3 seconds after Shadow Fury ends. The Shadow Guard also gain the benefit of any Shadow Fury talents that Vorazun has selected (such as Shadow Walk and Hidden Steps).
  • Untouchable Blade (Q) - Vorazun becomes Unstoppable for the duration of Shadow Fury.
  • Leaps and Bounds (E) - Vorazun's Shadow Fury cooldown is automatically reset when Shadow Dash is cast.

Level 16:

  • Glancing Blow - Vorazun gains Resistant while in stealth, decreasing incoming damage by 25%.
  • Master of the Shadows - After leaving combat, Vorazun enters stealth 1 second faster.
  • Strong Pull (W) - Enemy Heroes in the area of Black Hole have their movement speed reduced by 30%.
  • Weakening Force (W) - Enemy Heroes in the area of Black Hole are inflicted with Vulnerable, increasing incoming damage by 25% for 2 seconds.

Level 20:

  • Recall (R) - Summon Dark Pylon now has global range. Activating this ability again after the pylon has been placed will teleport Vorazun to the location of the pylon.
  • Chronomancy (R) - Reduces the cooldown of Time Stop by 30 seconds.
  • Blade of the Nerazim - Identical to the "Nexus Blades" talent on other heroes.
  • Strike from the Shadows - Vorazun deals 20% more damage while in stealth.

  • Added attack range, ability design, and range information.

December 17, 2016: v1.0.2

  • Ability Changes:
    • Shadow Dash (E) -
      • Added functionality: If Vorazun is not currently in stealth when this ability is used, she will re-enter stealth 1 second faster and cannot be removed from stealth by damage for 1 second afterwards.
  • Talent Changes:
    • Lvl 4: They Cannot Fight What They Cannot See (E) - Added clarification text to adjust for the ability changes listed above.
Author's Notes: Vorazun's Shadow Dash needed a bit more power since it was originally weaker than Zeratul's Blink, so I made a few flavor tweaks to help with that.

I like this concept but I don't think we need another stealthie in the game. Maybe she can place down bushes for herself that grant her shields.

I don't think there's much overlap between her play style and other stealth heroes, to be honest. And I don't really have as much opposition to the idea of more stealth in this game as other folks might. Quite the contrary, really. I want to see stealth utilized in more clever ways than just "sneak behind enemy and smack until dead", and I think heroes like Vorazun are a good step towards that.
