Table of Contents
The wandering monk Zenyatta left the Shambali monastery to pursue meaning and healing through interpersonal connection. He strives to help others overcome their struggles and find inner peace, Genji Shimada being one of his greatest successes.

A fast-paced Healer who juggles Orbs and Ability charges to deliver sustained healing and burst damage.

TRAIT
Restore Orbs

Regenerate 10 Orbs, 4 charges of Orb of Harmony, 2 charges of Orb of Discord, and 3 charges of Orb of Destruction over 1.25 seconds. Zenyatta cannot Basic Attack or cast Orb of Destruction while Restore Orbs is active. Can be cast at max Orbs.

Passive: Whenever Zenyatta regenerates an Orb, he is healed for 1% of his max Health.
Cooldown: 9.5 seconds Zenyatta’s abilities in Overwatch don’t translate too well to HotS: firstly, we’ve got too many heroes that do what he does, and, secondly, a lot of his challenge in his kit comes from being in first person - viewing the battle from the top down makes it a nonfactor. I didn’t want to abandon the “fire-and-forget” that defines a lot of his toolkit, as that wouldn’t really be Zenyatta. So, instead, I opted to add back in some more challenge by using manually reloaded Orbs as his secondary resource, and by tying his ability cooldowns to those manual reloads (instead of using time-based cooldowns).

This means that playing Zen well requires a lot of attention both to your overall Orb count as well as the charge counts on your individual abilities. I think this differentiates him enough from other heroes to give a really engaging niche.

I also added in the Health regen from Orbs to give him a somewhat unique form of self-sustain (as he can’t heal himself with his abilities).

Q ABILITY
Orb of Harmony

Grant target allied Hero an Orb of Harmony. Each second it is active, Orb of Harmony consumes 1 Orb and 1 charge to heal the target for 76 (+4% per level). Only 1 Hero may be affected by Orb of Harmony at a time. Reactivate to switch targets, or self-cast to cancel.

Zenyatta’s “fire-and-forget” heal over time is a bit too similar to heroes like Lt. Morales, so to mix things up I made it so it can’t always be on - if you keep it on someone for all 8 seconds, then you’ve used 8 of your Orbs and have to do two Restore Orbs to get all your charges back. But, you can Restore Orbs while it’s active, which allows you to extend your healing a bit if you time things well.

No Orbs or charges are consumed while the target is at full Health.

W ABILITY
Orb of Discord

Afflict target enemy unit with an Orb of Discord, making them Discordant, reducing their Physical Armor by 15. Each second it is active, Orb of Discord consumes 1 Orb and 1 charge. Only 1 Hero may be affected by Orb of Discord at a time. Reactivate to switch targets, or self-cast to cancel.

Same as with his heal, his “fire-and-forget” debuff is a bit too similar to other heroes (most specifically Tyrande). To make this less of a categorical upgrade over her Hunter’s Mark, I gave it the same charge system as Orb of Harmony, and made it so it only affects Physical Armor.

E ABILITY
Orb of Destruction

Activate to store 1 charge of Orb of Destruction every 0.3 seconds. Reactivate to release all stored charges over 0.5 seconds. Each charge consumes 1 Orb and deals 86 (+4% per level) Physical Damage to the first enemy hit. Zenyatta is slowed by 15% and cannot Basic Attack while storing charges. If Zenyatta is Stunned or Silenced while storing charges, no Orbs or charges are consumed, but Orb of Destruction is put on a 5 second cooldown.

Given that his W only affects Physical Armor, it made sense for his damaging ability to deal Physical damage. And, given that HotS doesn’t have alternate fire modes like Overwatch does, making his alt fire into his damaging ability felt right.

FIRST HEROIC ABILITY
Orb of Inversion

Grant target allied Hero an Orb of Inversion. For 3 seconds, Orb of Inversion can be reactivated to launch at an enemy Hero, linking them for 5 seconds if hit. While linked, 80% of healing received by the allied Hero from sources other than Orb of Inversion is dealt as damage to the enemy Hero, and the allied Hero is healed for 40% of damage dealt to the enemy Hero by sources other than Orb of Inversion.

Transcendence, Zenyatta’s ultimate in Overwatch, unfortunately is almost exactly the same as Anduin’s Holy Word: Salvation, so it couldn’t be a Heroic option in HotS (though I did provide it as a Storm talent option). Instead, for this Heroic, I went more with the yin and yang / hurting and healing duality theme. It’s a powerful effect, but it requires that you land a skillshot from an ally to an enemy (like the second firing of Chains of Kel Thuzad, but with the source being a friendly instead of an enemy).

SECOND HEROIC ABILITY
Equanimity

After 0.5 seconds, grant Unkillable to all Heroes in a large area for 4 seconds. Whenever an allied Hero takes damage while Equanimity is active, its duration on that Hero is extended by 0.5 seconds.
Cooldown: 70 seconds
Range: 9.5
Area: 6.5 radius circle
Zenyatta’s second Heroic is a more defensive option that utilizes the fairly underused Unkillable mechanic. Because it affects all Heroes in an area, it needs to be targeted quite well to get the best effect out of it. If used skillfully, it allows for some pretty aggressive diving. But even if targeted poorly, it can still be used as an effective disengage, because, even if enemies chase down allies you’ve made Unkillable, any damage the enemy deals extends the duration, giving friendlies more time to escape.

Talent Tree
Level 1 Talents

Passivity is not Resignation
Zenyatta passively regenerates 1 Orb every 2.25 seconds.
Steadfast Progress
Increase Zenyatta’s max Health by 2.5% and his max Orbs by 1 for each Talent tier he has unlocked.
Karmic Redistribution
Gain 15 Armor.
Quest: Every 2 Takedowns grants 1 Karma, increasing Zenyatta’s damage and healing by 4% and his max Orbs by 1, and reducing his Armor by 5. Dying decreases Karma by 3.

Level 4 Talents

Viparinama
Whenever Orb of Harmony heals an ally, its healing is increased by 3%, stacking up to 50 times. Consuming a charge of Orb of Discord removes 6 stacks of this bonus, and consuming a charge of Orb of Destruction removes 4 stacks of this bonus.
Dukkha
Quest: Deal Physical damage to Discordant Heroes.
Reward: After doing this 25 times, Discordant also reduces Spell Armor by 15.
Reward: After doing this 50 times, Zenyatta heals for 10% of all damage dealt to Discordant enemies.
Unwholesome Attachment
Quest: Dealing Physical damage to enemy Heroes increases Zenyatta’s Physical damage by 0.1%.

Level 7 Talents

Deep Reservoir
Increase the max charges for each of Zenyatta’s Basic Abilities by 2.
Nirodha
If Restore Orbs fully finishes, it grants 4 additional charges of Orb of Harmony.
Samudaya
If Restore Orbs fully finishes, it grants 3 additional charges of Orb of Destruction.

Level 13 Talents

Unflappable
Zenyatta gains permanent shields equal to 8% of his max Health. Whenever Zenyatta is healed by regenerating an Orb, he also regenerates Shields equal to 60% of the amount healed.
Move in Unison
Whenever Orb of Harmony heals an ally, both Zenyatta and the healed ally gain 5% Movement Speed for 3 seconds, stacking up to 4 times.
Noble Pathing
Charging Orb of Destruction no longer slows Zenyatta, instead increasing his Movement Speed by 10%. Zenyatta also gains 20% Movement Speed while Restore Orbs is active.

Level 16 Talents

Karuna
Every 2nd time Orb of Harmony heals an ally, all allied Heroes near the target are healed for 76 (+4% per level). This effect cannot heal Zenyatta.
Bouncy Ball
Orb of Destruction bounces to up to 2 nearby enemies for 50% of their normal damage, prioritizing Heroes.
The Three Jewels
Cooldown: 60 seconds
Empower Zenyatta’s next Basic Ability.
Orb of Harmony: Consumes all available Orbs/charges to instantly heal the target for 76 (+4% per level) per Orb/charge.
Orb of Discord: Makes the target Discordant for 4 seconds. Dealing Physical damage to the target extends the duration by 1 second. Does not consume Orbs or charges, and casting Orb of Discord on another target does not remove the effect.
Orb of Destruction: Instantly stores all available charges. Charges stored this way deal 15% additional damage.

Storm Talents

Rapid Inversion
Reduce the cooldown of Orb of Inversion by 30 seconds. If Orb of Inversion does not link an allied and enemy Hero, its cooldown is set to 10 seconds.
Brahmavihara
Equanimity is no longer targeted, activates instantly, and affects all Heroes. Allied Heroes gain 25% Movement Speed while affected by Equanimity and for 1.5 seconds after it expires.
Strife Begets Strife
Discordant Heroes deal 20% less damage. The 3rd consecutive time Zenyatta deals Physical damage to a Discordant enemy, he afflicts the closest enemy unit with Discordant for 3 seconds, prioritizing Heroes.
Transcendence
Cooldown: 80 seconds
Activate to gain 25% Movement Speed and Unstoppable for 4 seconds, healing nearby allied Heroes for 76 (+4% per level) per second.
