Threat Hero Notes
1
Chen Chen can't stop you from getting in the back line and his ults can't stop your abilities... Even after the unstoppable take away. Chen is not prepared.
1
Illidan This will only happen in mirror match ups. So duh. Who doesn't want to see 2 roided up elves hopped up on demon magic duel it out while everyone runs away in terror? This time both teams are not prepared for the epicness.
1
Nazeebo Now those spiders hurt. Apparently they are ability damage also. So be careful but all in all a flip here a flip there badabing badaboom Illidan spells Nazeebo's doom! The witch doctor is not prepared.
1
Sgt. Hammer Can't think of many more memorable imaginations than an Illidan dive flipping into a three point landing over an exploding tank. I see that in real life I think I'd drop my weapon.
1
Stitches Stitches wants to play? Illidan says not today dirty corpse! Just watch out for his slows and the ult he's got. Getting pulled is kinda like whatever... Stitches just wants to have fun. He is not prepared for Skillidan.
1
Tychus Let the HUNT begin!!! It's about damn time that Tychus be a little more prepared...
2
  No Threat
3
Azmodan No threat either way. Illidan has the 1 v 1 you just need to drop him quick and the laser beam can hurt. The Heroes of the Nexus are prone to getting dunked on though. Azmodan is not prepared.
3
Brightwing Post recent "balance" changes Brightwing just doesn't have the same Illidan stopping power as he used too. I think Illidan is a safe pick here. Brightwing is not prepared.
3
Falstad Falstad is in a strange ranged assassin slot right now. He can't be backline to compete and he can't be frontline because of melee assassins. Decent Falstads will play far back and not get damage in. Great Falstads will over step their bounds constantly and WILL get away with it if no one punishes. I think Falstad is not prepared.
3
Gazlowe Ah, Gazlord. Watch those turrets don't engage with the robo gazlowe and stay out of his stuns and pull wombo combo and you will be golden. Takes some practice but I think Gaztrash is not prepared.
3
Leoric So far from what I have seen Leoric is a feed the other team factory. Also Leoric doesn't have many options for melee assassins. Great support for them though.
3
Li Li That blind is decent but she can't keep people up properly in a teamfight. Also ,played correctly, a possible 1 v 1 me bro is there. All in all. I think LiLi will never be prepared for demons.
3
Valla She actually can't get away from Illidan and on top of that she can't really compete with the damage mitigation. Elune help an Illidan that can't pop evasion though.
3
Zagara Maw pffft. *Dive*, Hydralysk pffft. *Evasion*, Try's to plant creep to run away faster. *Sweeping Strikes w/Immolation* Zagara was never ever ever prepared. Don't get embarrassed by her surprise damage though.
4
Kael'thas KT below: 16 let the Hunt BEGIN! KT above: 16 please don't stun me; please don't stun me... Still a safer pick here. KT is still trying to figure out if he is prepared or not.
5
Raynor Strange pick against Ole Ray Ray he does DAMAGE but, in the same note you can mitigate most of it? But, again Illidan's 1 v 1 against him is not actually that strong. Raynor might be prepared? Not sure.
5
The Butcher I have mixed feelings on this one. On one hand Butcher has a stun. On the other he hits really hard and all his damage other than his ult is not ability damage. Also Lamb to Slaughter is a bad pick up against Illidan that saves his ult or has a bolt of the storm. All in all Butcher is prepared but Illidan is better in a 1 v 1
6
Arthas Can't say too much either way. The 1 vs 1 is there but Arthas has a dangerous slow moving root and a punishing slow. It's definately not the safer pick here in draft.
6
E.T.C. You'll be fine as long as you don't get stunned by his ult. Still a dodgy pick for Illidan here.
6
Muradin That Storm Bolt is a little wonky and hard to hit on a highly mobile Illidan but Muradin is a HUGE threat with his Thunder Clap. Reverberation OP. All the Illidan's say please nerf please nerf.
6
The Lost Vikings A Vikings soaking is a no late game domination for Illidan. So gank him a lot? But, that puts you out of position with Illidan quite a bit. Very neutral preparedness.
7
Sonya She has a really dangerous stun. Also her slam is harder to dodge without practice. I would say Sonya is recklessly prepared!
8
Kerrigan Dangerous you better have at least 500 games with Illidan under your belt to think about this pick up. Kerrigan is prepared for the scrubs but, not the pro's. IMHO
9
Nova Rewind at 20 and early game snipes will get you so low no amount of First Aid, Sippy Cups, Stoneskin, or Heals for that matter will keep you up.
9
Thrall He's a danger. Nevermind his dog. He gunna daboo all over your face! Although it's easy to avoid him.
9
Zeratul Same as Nova. Zerafool will get you EVERYTIME. Although, One vs One Illidan will win. Too bad it's a team game.
10
Abathur You probably won't be getting much done if he's on the other side. Abby does a lot of dps to Melee Assassins along with him being able to save people is kinda game ruining for Illidan.
10
Anub'arak He's got some great escape and decent stun and a web wrap. I would steer clear of picking Illidan up against him.
10
Diablo Devastating pick against Illidan. The Lord of Terror is here and you should be terrified. Stuns galore along with placement control. Diablo is prepared he was born prepared.
10
Jaina That slow is punishing. Think you can just dodge it? Nah, Jaina is busted. She's here to feed off you! She was prepared and your team will be incomplete without an assassin.
10
Johanna "Mien eyes!", said the Illidan right before being stunned and ragdolled across the map. Johanna brought a shield just for you buddy.
10
Malfurion "THE ROOOTS! Why... BROTHER WHY!?", the Illidan said as he was crushed to death by the bramble. His last sight was the entire other team being blessed by the natural magic of his brother. Illidan, betrayed once again by his own brother.
10
Murky This f@#%$!g murloc this stupid buck teeth... *Transmission lost.*
10
Rehgar Absolutely punishing for an Illidan trying to get kills or mop up low health players. Also with the slow totem? Ridiculous.
10
Sylvanas Blood for blood, Envenom, and holding onto the 'Q' key... Ya Sylvanas takes soooo much skill. Post balance of Illidan. Sylvanas is prepared. Who's the wench now.
10
Tassadar You will get nothing done this game. Sure you'll get a couple kills sure you'll have a lot of damage but this dude is such a huge nuissance and the ability damage zoning is going to have you flipping around too much or not enough and soaking storms. All in all Tassadar is the most prepared hero in the Nexus.
10
Tyrael The Archangel of Justice (Notice the capped J) is here to judge this betrayer among the Nexuses midst's.
10
Tyrande Love of his life. Tyrande just really make Illidan feel vulnerable... Tyrande's was prepared for Illi-bro and she kicked him to the curb for his hippy brother.
10
Uther Uther... oh Uther. Happy now that Illidan doesn't have unstoppable. Feel like a big man stunning whoever you please? Maybe they'll take unstoppable off of Sylv too? Maybe Muridan? You wish. Uther is very prepared.

How To Practice Top

Your games before you are level 10 with him (out of game I mean). You are going to want to try and make what look like risky sweeping strikes into some great lane aggression and pressure without taking poke yourself. Dives out while popping evasion accordingly helps the bit about you getting poked. Casual auto's will help you stay full in lane. Just practice this in lane a BUNCH. You'll get the hang of it after about 20 or so games. Also practice holding onto your spells and watch for their spells the real strength of Illidan is his mobility and his no mana cost abilities. In fights don't rush things fights are like making sweet, sweet love. There needs to be foreplay and there needs to be an end goal with slow methodical steps on getting there. Practice planning out a fight before you jump in it. Foresight will get you the wins with Illidan.
Practicing makes perfect with this character. Also being prepared...

Pro Tips Top

Don't use Dive or "dive" in. (Unless you know it is safe.)
Control your heat of the battle rage.
Sate the thirst with a drink of water for yourself and casual auto-attacks with Illidan.
Don't just pop your abilities willy nilly.
Know thine enemy. It's important to know the threats with Illidan.
Illidan was easy to play hard to master before balances. He's hard to play and even harder to master now.

Please note that only very experienced players should try the follow-up dive build. It's actually very good but you lose a ton of survive-ability.

Talent Versitility Top

Honestly Illidan doesn't have many options with versatility. I suggest you play around with his talents and find what is successful for you. But, honestly what I have laid out is optimal damage build and survive-ability without just being a warm body. :Blink gets picked up sometimes by me and so does :Stoneskin if I am feeling like I need another tank out there(But, even then :BFF's is still best in slot even post nerf). But, it's rare I ever deviate from the 1-7 talents and 16 - 20 also.

On the issue of is a foot! It's great damage plus a stun and it scales so much better than demon ridiculousness. (50% reduced duration of stuns plus attack speed? Yes please.) Even post nerf of this spell it's still a better pick up in almost all situations. I mentioned casually in the "threats" section Kael'thas and Tychus are where to pick up . But, still it should be noted that an Illidan that rushes in without a plan will feed their team and die faster than you can . You lose survive-ability and versatility all for what damage on a kill you could have gotten getting the other ultimate? Unless you are doing some crazy Butcher Illidan Abbathar Tyrael Tyrande build don't. Just don't. But, again practice makes perfect prove me wrong.

My Take On His Lore Top

I love Illidan's lore I love his abilities and I love his suave cocky I'm a powerful faux-immortal attitude that he has.
His lore is delicious and he beats Arthas at Ice Crown in Northrend but not after Arthas gets Frostmourne. His Black Temple was always a cool mystery for me and his love for Tyrande is such a tragic story. His brother is the real betrayer in my opinion. Wanted to take Illidan's cool abilities away!
