Hello there ^.^ I will show you some good stuff, which you might or might not know about yet that could either level up your gameplay, have moar friends or have a good time. The things i will teach you are based on my experiences, some i learned from others, some i learned the hard way. You might not agree with some of the things i put here, but it's what i learned and i'm just gonna share it to you guys :3 anyway be sure to bring a popcorn with you while reading this guide, it's a pretty long read and don't forget to give a like or a comment. Thanks :)
Something about me :3
My ingame name is Fluttershy#1154, i play on Asia server. I've played many times in Dota1, Dota2 and LoL since i was 13.
Anyways let's move on.....
You never know when a tragedy might happen like you getting hacked, corrupted files, acts of God, or your little sister. There are times when the developers would release an update that screws the game, e.g crash, server instability, that might make you snap and find a desperate solution. Team For*cough*tress 2 gun me*cough*ttle update i'm pointing at you, yes you!. Errheem sorry 'bout that so it's always a good idea to backup your game files, put it on a safe folder or another hard disk, trust me you wouldn't want to lose 7GB worth of download, that takes 2-6 hours at least? I don't know when Blizzard will make a function that would allow battle.net to make its own backup for you, like steam.
It's a good idea to test all of the heroes at least once to get a bit of understanding of that hero, because you'll never know when your gonna need to use that hero again, either a dare by your friends or your fav hero getting banned or the computer chose a random hero for you.
In the competitive scene or in a tournament it's a good idea to know the widest hero pool you can learn, cause you'll never know when the enemy team will ban your favorite hero and that's bad cause your gonna play a different hero you've never even mastered.
This happens to some rookie guys just entering the competitive scene, they go in with their favorite hero they have mastered and when their favorite hero gets banned they panic then the whole teams panics and their team composition becomes bad, using different heroes they did not perfected which leads to a swift and painful defeat.
Buy heroes you want/ like not what is currently purchasable by your current gold
Hots is a MOBA where you start with few resources and scrape for the hero you want next, much like LoL be careful with what you buy cause you may not like the hero at all instead pick heroes that you know will fit your playstyle, if you like to have a high damage output as a mage well then you might like kaelthas, if you like to sneak inside the enemy team then you might like zeratul, you get the picture?. You'll seldom go wrong with a hero that you liked either because of his/her personality, playstyle, skill set etc. Your gonna play that hero many a times anyway. Ignore those heroes that are op right now, their gonna get nerfed sooner or later anyway.

Further Explanation:
That's right principles from the real world can be applied to improve your playstyle, not only that you are sure to become a master yourself and not stay as an average leveled player if you know how to use these principles in-game.
Remember: A hero that is op is only op because it was played correctly, your just wasting the heroes strengths if you don't play him/her correctly.
- Know the disadvantages of your hero then you will know the advantages of the hero
Furthermore Sun Tzu's principles can also be applied to your game:
Initiation is the act of going in the fight first, or starting a clash usually warrior heroes are expected to initiate a clash. Correct initiation are one of the many keys to a successful clash simply cause they can break the enemies' defense.
A correct initiation is not ONLY on the one who went in first, but its how swift your teammates follow through after somebody started initiating, do keep in mind that the initiating hero must know how and when to initiate.
How to correctly initiate?
- Know when to go in
- What to do after you go in
- Key enemy targets
When to Initiate?
- When the enemy team is separated from each other
- When you are sure that you will win
- When your at an advantage, e.g. 5 vs 4 scenario, you have your heroic abilities and the enemy does not
- As a distraction while an ally takes out a key objective, like destroying a fort.
But when you can't see a way to initiate there's nothing you can do but just go in and pray and cross your fingers, Not really sometimes what looks like a bad initiation may actually be the reason that you win a teamfight, it all just comes to intuition, how you manage yourself during a clash and which hero you chose to attack. Sometimes waiting out a clash could lead to a stalemate or the enemy being regrouped.
Some quotes from the Art of War:
Some win through speed, even though they are clumsy
~Cao Cao
Some may be clumsy in attack, but they get the upper hand through extraordinary swiftness,
because they are not subject to the problems of wearing out their forces and using up
their resources
~Du Mu
This comes after Initiation, it's your ability to focus while in a teamfight and point out dangerous enemies will do the most damage or have a game changing skill like ETC's Mosh Pit. Usually these are the assassin heroes since they have a high damage output but assassin heroes are mostly squishy/ have low health and are prone to burst damage. Remember that assassin heroes like to get ignored, and a free-hitting assassin hero can mow down an enemy team. A successful clash all comes down to what your teammates do while in a clash and who you chose to attack.
Predicting your enemies movements, and guessing their next move. This is what separates good players from casual players, in fact pros are well....pro at predicting the enemy movement. Prediction will make you a ninja master. It's also the ability to see through the fog of war and guess how your opponent will move, through practice you will be able to "see" the enemy moving and landing a successful kill while the enemy is in the fog of war and a blind kill is much, much more exciting than an ordinary kill, this will make the crowd shout, The player dance in overflowing triumph, the ultimate insult for that tryhard guy with a big ego and the reason why MLG compilations are created
Just like this pro player, Dendi. He's playing as pudge(much like stitches) and he successfully snatched the enemy team's healer, much like uther: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qF6G6eWXA18
Speed of the target
Projectile travel time of your skill
Size/width of your projectile
Behavior of your projectile
Behavior and Awareness of the target
Size of the target
Taking into account all of these things will help you make better skillshots. additionally its a good idea to also include any enemy minion or hero that might block your skillshot.
Speed of the target
- Judge the enemy's speed intuitively, not mathematically cause that's impossible.
Behavior and awareness of the target
-Will your enemy run in a straight line, hearthstone/teleport on a bush, can the enemy see you or is he competent enough to know that he could get blind hooked/ blind sniped, he's aware that your gonna do it and just itching to dodge that skillshot.
Behavior of the projectile
-Anyway this is just applicable for heroes that have skill shots which have a secondary utility like Sylvanas' which you can activate while the skill is in mid-flight. It's for skills that have another use rather than simply traveling in a straight line.
Global skills are one the most interesting skills in the game to use, simply because they can kill an enemy player halfway across the map.
Things to include with a successful Global kill:
The same principles as with predicting just added with a few more:
-where the enemy is probably gonna be after 3-4 seconds
-if he's aware that he might die from a global skill
-and a little bit of luck
Successfully nailing this skill will give you overflowing glory, and it's one of the best experiences that a MOBA can give you.
Positioning
- is what defines the outcome of a clash/teamfight, good positioning is the reason why assassins live longer and supports out of focus fire. It also allows you to attack the enemy as safe as possible
Repositioning
- Constant repositioning is one of the keys to victory.
- When you watch pro plays you'll see that they move alot during a clash.
- You can achieve this through Attack moving and animation cancelling.
Raynor - "ahh the good ol' days, you want to kick some zerg butts again buddy?"
Nova - And i was all like Pew! Pew! Pew! Pew! *Dominion*. She flanks enemies perfectly and combos the squishy support in less than a second.
Zeratul - Sneaky, sneaky and the anti-nova guy i should say(i hate this guy when his on the enemy team). and oh his blink can make a skill shooting player go rage, like nova's precision strike and don't even think about using a channeling ability when his around. *Insert Zeratul troll face here*
Lili - Incredible healing, sustain. Her skills may not be as threatening or have a high damage output but having lili in a team ensures that no one dies.
Malfurion - Remember moon wells from warcraft 3? yeah he's like a moving moon well ._.
Tassadar - Remember comsat stations from starcraft? ._. yeah he's like that anyway his shield is pretty much op .-.
Muradin - he's like a tank with a built in viaghaahaa.. errr i mean he grows big and is so tanky which makes Sgt. Bama say now that's a tank i wanna see ._.
Constantly playing the game, without learning is a bad thing to do. It's not how many hours you played the game, but how much you learned and applied that learning. Watching your personal replays is the best way to learn and you will know where you went wrong. Remember: "Replays are the best way to learn".
Please do remember that there's a lot more to a hero than what you had already tried, so be creative and resourceful, a heroes capabilities are only limited by your imagination.
"The fruits of discipline, With practice comes....ownage"
~Jugirnat, Dato2
Reading guides is another way for quick learning, pro plays makes sure that you see how pros move/act, also watching other how to videos make sure that you learn in 16 minutes, rather than a day of playing random matches.
Playing with friends eliminates the randomness of your teammates skills and attitudes. Playing with your friends together in a single room or with skype is more fun than a normal random match since you get to socialize with your buddies and communicate much, much more effectively and almost instantly. Additionally you get to share the excitement with your teammate/s personally when your just a meter away from him. If you have an acquaintance a schoolmate or a new classmate, this is how you would get to know each other better faster and eliminating the awkwardness of meeting somebody knew.
Being in a team makes sure that you learn faster and better, and play with people that are on the same level as you are, furthermore always playing in competitive scenarios makes you a better player in a month rather than a year spent bullying newbies.
Competitive plays will always push you to your limits and the road will be very hard, but with a good team with good friends will make your way to the pro scenario a little smoother since you have friends that are there to help you.
Play some really good music in the background
Music is a real motivator and will surely spice up your game, when you've heard every possible voice lines that all the heroes would say for 100 time, it's gonna get boring but music is not repetitive and you can choose what you want to play
Move with the music
pick a favorite song of yours(rock music if you may) and then play the game and play the song, DO NOT attack yet when the music is not in it's chorus yet or not on it's best part yet. Wait for that epic part and then jump in the fray :3. you'll be feeling that music synch along with your kill as you go for a double kill, triple kill! and when they ask you why you did not go in earlier say:
"Cause the beat wasn't dropping yet."
Socialize with the locals :3
Fool around with the locals, pretend your talking to them, cast whatever skill you want and yeah there are some breakable stuffs in the game like barrels.
Play with Friends locally
HOTS is more fun to play when played with friends in the same room, cause you get to share the yells, the screams, or trash talk with your friends whenever you kill each other. It always works.
Troll with your friends
Be friendly to the enemy team and just dance around the map. you know Blizzard should add a dance future for heroes, that would be fun. Or simply just take it easy, not taking it seriously,. Just having a good laugh here and there with good friends.
Take a break for awhile
Take a break from the game for at least a day or two, and play a different game instead.
So there you have it thanks for reading my guide, i really liked writing my first guide and i really did
enjoyed it and i hope i can do more of these things. I thank all that inspired me to make my guide, To the guys whom helped me have and idea what to add especially the Player with a principle part, any resemblance to spammy's guide is purely coincidental. Anyway there are so many things more that are not covered in this guide if i add them it's gonna be very long and some of you guys might know what i'm missing, you can recommend me stuffs you know it will be an honor for me :3 and i might include it in my part 2 guide, if the guide became helpful for many :3
All of these things may overwhelm a totally new guy and may take too long to sink in your mind and you might be nervous, hesitate over your skillshot and overthink too much of what your going to do next but you need NOT worry because the thing is Pros do it too, they just do it way faster and more organized than an ordinary player. With constant practice you'll be able to do all of these things in a split second, trust me in a split second and they say video games never teach you anything ey? You'll be able to think almost intuitively, like it's second nature to you because your mind is capable of doing that like how a real pro does, and you don't have to be famous or compete internationally to become a pro because honestly the pro spirit lives in every player you just need to unlock it :)
