My brother and I play Cho'gall almost exclusively and were very excited to see these new changes...Cho'gall has had a complete talent and ability overhaul and now has a lot more answers for the problems that were weighing the hero down.
With a lot of the old talent trees rolled into Cho'gall's kit passively, your choices for talents can actually vary based on your play style. However, I believe that this talent build provides the best basic set up.
The basic premise for this build is to stay alive during team fights and to aim your runic bomb well. You'll be using
Consuming Blaze to provide your self with a small, but decent, self heal while using
Runic Feedback to help your Gall build stacks to snowball the game.
With a lot of new people playing Cho and Gall we're hoping that by sharing our new builds for them we can help people who would want to try and main this hero with their friends.
Tier 1 -
Consuming Fire will provide the most healing during team fights and can help keep you alive surprisingly well in the late game with
Firestarter
Calloused Hide is a must pick talent if you are going tanky or building for the fist. Remember that you have to have your passive active to gain the effect.
Fuel for the Flame provides better healing against lane creeps and jungle camps. I would take this talent if you plan on doing either extensively, and it will provide a little extra healing against enemy heroes.
Tier 2 -
Seared Flesh will provide the most hero damage and works very well with
Hammer of Twilight and
C'Thun's Gift
Uppercut is a must pick if you are doing the fist build and will provide more damage if you are facing a very tanky enemy team.
Rollback can give you better lane clear and more damage on jungle camps, however it is much harder to squeeze damage out of this talent during team fights.
Tier 3 -
Firestarter will provide the most healing when combined with
Consuming Fire. It allows you to have your heal up more consistently for team fights and can help with lane and camp clear.
Enraged Regeneration is useful if you are not going to be the main tank in your game. However, you will lose the regen if you switch to tank mode.
Power Surge should only be chosen if you are playing the fist build.
Tier 4 -
Hammer of Twilight gives you the most damage with a CC that has a very short cooldown.
Upheavel can be chosen if your Gall elects to choose
Twisting Nether or if your team needs more aoe CC. It can be hard to land and enemy heroes may land inconsistently, but the ability to pull enemies back towards you and your team can be invaluable.
Tier 5 -
Runed Gauntlet will allow your Gall to use his ultimate more freely. It provides a massive cooldown reduction on both of your ultimates and can give you a massive damage increase.
Runic Feedback provides the most damage in this tier if your Gall takes the corresponding runic orb talents. When combined with
Deafening Blast from Gall's talents, it can give you a very high up time of the silence.
Frenzied Fists should only be taken if you are doing the fist build.
Tier 6 -
Molten Block is still here and is still the best talent in it's tier. The ability to avoid ultimates or burst is to good to pass up.
Twilight Veil is not as good but does not lock you in place and only lasts 1 second less. When combined with a good healer, the ability to move could be better then
Molten Block.
Surging Dash should only be taken if doing the fist build. However, the healing only applies when channeling so I recommend taking one of the other two talents even if doing the fist build as you should not be channeling the fist for long periods of time.
Tier 7 -
C'Thun's Gift is a must pick if your Gall has not taken
Shadowsnare as Cho'Gall does need atleast one slow to help keep up with enemy heroes and to help land abilities. It also will provide a lot of damage when combined with
Seared Flesh.
Favor of the Old Gods will always be chosen if you have taken Upheavel
The Will of Cho is a very good talent to pair with
Calloused Hide and provides tanky cho with a lot of additional bulk. Though it can require coordination with your Gall as he loses his damage buff if you take this talent.
Hour of Twilight should only be chosen if you are dieing very heavily. The other talents are much to useful to pass up as you should not be dieing a lot, but this talent can be useful if you need it.
Most of your play time with Cho will come down to staying alive and providing your Gall with good opportunities to deal damage. Though the talents have been changed a lot, there are not a lot of options to pick from.
The basic talent set up I provided will help you stay alive and provide more utility for your Gall which will in turn increase your damage output. Cho does have a tanky build that you can choose if your team needs a tank, but remember that it will cut into your Gall's damage quite a bit.
Be a bully, use your healing and large health pool to push enemy heroes off of objectives. BUT DO NOT OVEREXTEND, you are tanky but not invulnerable and dieing will give the enemy team two kills!
Work with your Gall, he is your damage. Know his ability ranges well so you are able to provide him with a lot of opportunities to place eyes for you and siege enemy structures and heroes.
Remember that grabbing the plant or dragon knight will not stop your Gall from using his abilities, so always push to grab those if possible
I provided the fist build because Blizzard pushed for it very heavily with the talents, however I do not believe it is the most helpful talent build for Cho.
See you guys in the nexus ^^
