Introduction Top

Hello everyone,

i played Hots since Alpha and really enjoy it. Thrall is one of my favorite Heroes and I played lots of games since his release (kinda ~500 games). And Thrall is in general a very good pick 'cause he has high dmg output and is hard to kill (if not stunned ofc). So i want to share my experience on him. Take your time to read the 'Abillity'-section because its important to know when to use which abillity at a certain time of the fight/game. Hope you'll enjoy this guide.

Prooos and Coooons Top

Pros:
  • High damage output
  • good burst dmg
  • very good selfheal (due to passiv)
  • strong mid - late game
  • strong duelist
  • good utility teamfights (ult & w )
  • can initiate tf with ult
  • good for solo q

Cons:
  • STUNS- all sustain lost if stunned (no attacks -> no heal -> gg )
  • weak early game
  • mana starving if you harras to much

Abillitys Top

Q - Chain Lightning
Deals damage to an enemy and hits afterwards two additonal targets with 50% less damage.

This ability is nice to finish enemys who are escaping with very low health, due to his quite good range. If the enemy runs out of range you can cast Chain Lightning on enemy nerby objectives or minions, that it bounces over. Use this abillity in team fights or if you fight on lanes in a minion wave to hit as much targets as possible for raising your Frostwolf Resilience (passive) for more heal.


W - Feral Spirit
Skillshot.Sends a wolf straight forward in a line. Deals damage to every thing it hits. If it hits an enemy Hero, the Hero will be stunned for 1 second.

Simply a second Stun. Always nice to have, to interrupt ult like Vallas Strafe or just stunning the enemys carry and prevent him for dealing damage or escaping.


E - Windfury
On use, you will gain a nice movementboost (30%) for 4 seconds and decreased time between your next 3 Autohits by 100% for 12 seconds.

This skill is the reason Thrall is so so strong and makes him a really scary duelist. Because it offers late game really strong damage output due to Tempest Fury + Nexus Blades and ALSO a ****ing heavy self heal if you skill Tempest Fury + Grace Of Air. This combo will activate your passiv 2 times, so you will be able to heal for about 1000 - 1200 health at level 20 only from 1 Abillity.
Windfury can also be used as gap closer with Feral Spirit or as escaping abillity.


R (Ult 1)- Sundering
Skillshot, splits the ground in a line, throwing enemys by side, stunning them for 1,5 seconds and deals quite a good amount of damage to everything it hits.

I really love this ult, this one makes thrall not just a soloing 1v1 killer (sometimes 1v2 no problem ;D) also brings very much utility into a teamfight. Use this ability to initiate a teamfight, if your tank cant and your tank can get in range, to interrupt enemys ults and to deal good damage to the whole team. Due to the stun and throwing enemys through the air, you can get yourself and your team in position to get to the enemy carry/backline burst down and to Feral Spirit important targets. Also splitting and isolating the enemy team or some heroes can be easily done.


R (ult 2) - Earthquake
Defines a big area where an earthquake should appear and constantly slowing them by 70% all enemys within for 10 seconds.

I only recommend this pick if your team needs support. Then combine it with the Level 20 Talen Earthen Shields to shield your Allies.

Talents Top

In the following Chapters i will explain diffrent talent choices. I only will mention talent picks which were vulnerable.

Tier 1 Talent (Level 1) Top

Block
In my Opionen the best Tier 1 Talent. It gives you Sustain and makes you more resistant against burst champions like Nova. And there isnt really another Talent that gives better utility than blocking 2 hits..


Rolling Thunder
You dont really need an increased range of Lightning Chain, because its range is wide enough for most puposes and you are a meele at all, so you need to get in range anyway to deal damage. The manarefund is nice to have, but not really needed.


Rabid Wolves
This just gives you more sustain, for any target hit, it gives 3 of 5 Stack from your passiv. In minion waves its really nice but in teamfights, you can just 1 Hit one target. This talent is an okay-pick for soloing lanes and pushing. But i would recommend taking Block anyway.

Tier 2 Talent (Level 4) Top

Envenom
I love envenom gives you a nice damage buff and can really good finish enemys off. Nothing more to say.


Ride the Lightning
A good alternative to envenom, does not offer the burst damage like Envenom but increases the sustain damage in teamfights and makes your passiv to trigger from 1 cast of Chain Lightning.


If you need more burst than take Envenom and if you feel like you need more selfheal than Ride The Lightning should be the better Choice.

Tier 3 Talent (Level 7) Top

Follow Through
Gives you a little bit more Burst, which i really like on thrall.


Wind Shear
Normally for bursting people you dont really need the 4 second cooldown reduction. But if you will stay in a fight for a longer then you should pick this talent.

Frostwolf's Grace
If you again feel like you need more ondemand heal this should be your talent.

Tier 4 Talent (Level 10) Top

Sundering

For the description and ult pick see the Abillty section where the ults where described.

Tier 5 Talent (Level 13) Top

Follow Through
This Talent is far the best for sustain if you combine it with the Level 16 Talent Tempest Fury you'll get twiced healed by your passive which is insane in late game.

Giant Killer
If your enemy team contains lot of tanky guys and do not have much damage or your team plays with double sup, you can leave the self heal behind and go for damage.

Tier 6 Talent (Level 16) Top

Tempest Fury
This talent rocks everything and scales soo soo well with your Level 13 Talent, if you have picked Grace Of Air you got insane heal, if you pick Giant Killer you got heavy damage also (tanks wont last long). Tempest Fury buffs your E Abillity and cause you to do 5 quick auto attacks which raises your passiv. so you will deal nice damage and get at least 1 time healed by your passiv.


Blood for Blood
If you need more burst on tanky targets this could be an option. But Tempest Fury is actually just too strong to not pick it.

Tier 7 Talent (Level 20) Top

Nexus Blades
Very good damage increase and scales very nice with Tempest Fury.


Bolt of the Storm
Also a good pick to escape from sticky situations or to position your self better. Pick this if you are playing for example against a Diabolo Really depends on your play style. I engage with thrall and play him more like a warrior and crash through the enemys and my selfheal is often(!!!) enough not to die.


Earthern Shields
Pick this talen if you did NOT pick Sundering to support your team very very well.
