Once the crown prince of Lordaeron, and protégé of Uther the Lightbringer, Arthas was corrupted by the cursed blade Frostmourne in a bid to save his people. Now he rules over the damned as the Lich King and all shall know his wrath.
It is correct up until the time of the end of the book "Arthas: Rise of the Lich King". In the book Arthas (as the Lich King) initially must deal with the spirit of Ner'zhul for lack of a better word haunting his helmet. He has an identity crisis throughout the majority of the latter half of the book where Ner'zhul is trying to turn him completely to the dark, and the spirit of the paladin Arthas (represented by a boy) is trying to pull him back to the light. They have a confrontation at the end where Arthas destroys the spirit of Ner'zhul, ending his plead to have a foothold in Arthas' future. He also destroys the spirit of the boy, proclaiming that the old Arthas is dead and that there is only the new Lich King now. One of my favorite books of all time throughout any genre.
No, this is correct. Arthas is not the original Lich King. Ner'zhul is. And even when Arthas "becomes" the Lich King, it's still debatable that Ner'zhul is still in control.
It's not a point of contention. Ner'zhul gets absorbed by Arthas and the only thing that's left is Arthas or well what he has become: the Lich King.
When he put on the helmet he went to sleep and in that slumber he killed Ner'zhul so to speak.
So the Lich King is Ner'zhul, a former orc shaman that was twisted by Archimonde and his soul was placed into the helmet that Arthas is wearing. When Arthas put the mentioned helmet on his head, their souls merged and formed the new lich king. After Arthas was defeated, Bolvar put on the same helmet on his head and his soul merged with Ner'zhul's soul. We do not know yet what happened with the new lich king, only time will tell.
Maybe I should fix that? I don't know jack about WoW lore. xD

I think with the fact that blizzard has let Arthas in HOTS it was better to give him some cooler ultimates i mean come one raise dead? Arthas deserves more
Most of the lore from the heroes is set around about halfway through their timeline. At the point of his lore he was symbiotic with the Lich King, Deathknight would be a more appropriate class name but Lich King is just as acceptable for now.

Wait. "He serves the Lich King."
Arthas: Lich King.

Note: WoW may have changed this, this is just what I remember from WC3: FT
