Just the ranks are being reset, MMR is not being reset. Essentially if you're in the bracket of Rank 1-5 you should have an MMR of ~2.2-2.5k minimum, so when the ranks reset next week, after the placement matches you should be put back to the same rank you had before, of course based on the variable that you perform well in your placement matches.

100% agree with this. While I've not yet reached rank 1 - I've easily climbed close and I'm fairly casual on the subjective of MOBA's, I mean I've played them for years but I've always been an FPS guy until HoTS came out - this game actually makes me want to climb the ranks and I'd like it to be at least a significant measure of ability/skill rather than just an arbitrary number.

You could counter build with Zeratul, Rehgar, Kael'thas, Leoric, and Zagara. Sure it wouldn't be an easy counter but you could do it with a competent 5. You can VP the front or backline with Zera and focus down their Jaina or Kerrigan. Throw down a Maw after the VP for even more CC and have your Kael'thas just nuke them from a far while Leoric pounds them down. Leoric is great against Uther and Muradin because his W does % health damage instead of a static number, so if he can maintain it...

Also not that this is just standard practice in many other games, it 100% needs to be done. Rank 1 means absolutely nothing in terms of actually rating the top players in the game. Rank 1 should not be attainable by "everyone" it should be left for those who are actually the top in the games MMR system. Of course that will be left for the Grandmaster rank which is great - but even so as it stands right now Rank 1 means absolutely nothing other than you grinded a lot of games...

Metamorphosis is the talent that the majority of illidan players take. The Hunt has only recently become more popular because last balance patch (The Butcher release patch) they nerfed Illidan pretty significantly by reducing his Metamorphosis damage by a large portion (used to deal 200 damage in the area, now it does 20 damage) and he no longer goes unstoppable/untargetable when using Dive on targets.

Only your rank will be reset, meaning the number on your profile, not your internal MMR or anything (this is hidden of course to players in-game) but to give perspective - your HOTSLogs profile will remain the same, but your Rank 1 or Rank 10 or whatever rank you are, will be reset to Rank 50.
