Ability Breakdown Top

Trait [D]

Vanish
Cooldown: 8 seconds
Valeera vanishes from sight becoming Stealthed and increasing her Movement Speed by 10%. For the first second, she is Unrevealable and can pass through other units.
Using Vanish grants Valeera a different set of Abilities while she remains Stealthed.

A combination of Samuro's Wind Walk and Zeratul's and Nova's Permanent Cloak with the added benefit of new Basic Abilities while Stealthed. A core part to Valeera's opening and damage output.

Vanish Ability 1 [Q]

Ambush
Energy: 20
Cooldown: 1 second

Ambush the target, instantly dealing 187 (+4% per level) damage to them.
Awards 1 Combo Point.

A high damage opener, although Garrote deals more damage overall. Simple enough.

Vanish Ability 2 [W]

Cheap Shot
Energy: 30
Cooldown: 1 second

Deal 31 (+4% per level) damage to an enemy and stun them for 1.5 seconds.
Awards 1 Combo Point.

Whereas the damage is minuscule, the Stun is huge. Helps lock down your target to unleash your full combo on him or her without him or her being able to react.

Vanish Ability 3 [E]

Garrote
Energy: 30
Cooldown: 1 second

Garrote an enemy, dealing 78 (+4% per level) damage instantly, and an additional 182 (+4% per level) damage over 7 seconds, and silencing them for 2 seconds.
Awards 1 Combo Point.

My favorite opener for most situations, as the total damage is the highest out of all the Vanish Abilities and the Silence is much welcomed.

Ability 1 [Q]

Sinister Strike
Energy: 30
Cooldown: 5 seconds

Dash forward, hitting all enemies in a line for 110 (+4% per level). If Sinister Strike hits an enemy Hero, Valeera stops dashing immediately and the cooldown is reduced to 1 second.
Awards 1 Combo Point.

Your primary damaging Ability. Landing Sinister Strike on Heroes consistently keeps its cooldown at 1 second so that you can spam it on your target. However it does take quite a bit of Energy to cast.

Ability 2 [W]

Blade Flurry
Energy: 40
Cooldown: 4 seconds

Deal 130 (+4% per level) damage in an area around Valeera.
Awards 1 Combo Point per enemy Hero hit.

Decent damage and AoE. Mainly to get a burst of Combo Points if you can hit two or three Heroes with it.

Ability 3 [E]

Eviscerate
Energy: 25
Cooldown: 1 second
Consumes all Combo Points

Eviscerate an enemy, dealing damage per Combo Point.
1 Point: 100 (+4% per level) damage
2 Points: 200 (+4% per level) damage
3 Points: 300 (+4% per level) damage

The prime Ability and finisher to deal the final blow to your targets. NEVER use this Ability with less than 3 Combo Points unless you are 100% certain it will kill your victim.

Heroic Ability 1 [R]

Smoke Bomb
Cooldown: 60 seconds
Create a cloud of smoke. While in the smoke, Valeera is Unrevealable, can pass through other units, and gains 25 Armor, reducing damage taken by 25%. Valeera can continue to attack and use abilities without being revealed. Lasts 5 seconds.
Using this Ability does not break Vanish.

Deal damage while Stealthed for 5 seconds (so long as they do not leave the area, which is possible with help from your teammates)? Yes please! The added 25 Armor to reduce incoming AoE and skill-shot Abilities is nice too.

Heroic Ability 2 [R]

Cloak of Shadows
Cooldown: 25 seconds
Valeera is enveloped in a Cloak of Shadows, which immediately removes all damage over time effects from her. For 1 second, she becomes Unstoppable and gains 75 Spell Armor, reducing Ability Damage taken by 75%.
Using this Ability does not break Vanish.

Great utility tool against multiple mages or team compositions with multiple disabling effects. The extremely low cooldown makes it worth it that much more.

AA Build Discussion Top

This build focuses on Valeera's Basic Attacks and picks Talents to maximize their damage.

Talent Choices
Level 1

Crippling Poison
Valeera has no built-in Movement Speed bonus besides her Vanish, so keeping up with targets with Movement Speed increases or escapes is rather difficult. Crippling Poison helps that issue with a 3 second 25% Slow. Open with a Garrote to prevent your target from using any Abilities for 2 seconds then pop a Crippling Poison-enhanced Sinister Strike or Blade Flurry to keep him or her in your reach while you quickly dispatch him or her. Pro Tip: If you apply Crippling Poison or Wound Poison with Blade Flurry, then all enemies hit receive the debuffs from the poisons.

Level 4

Hemorrhage
As we are building for a Basic Attack-oriented build, bonus damage on each of your Basic Attacks on targets affected by Garrote is a necessity. 7 seconds of Critical Hits feels so good.

Level 7

Slice and Dice
On top of the Critical Basic Attacks from Hemorrhage, you also have a 25% faster Attack Speed for the first 3 seconds of the Garrote window. Just remember to only use Eviscerate at maximum Combo Points and never less, otherwise you will not get the bonus Attack Speed.

Level 10

Smoke Bomb
Dealing damage is great, especially a lot of it quickly, but what's better than that? Dealing damage while your enemies are unable to target you. Keep in mind that you are not Immune within Smoke Bomb's area, but you do get 25 Armor to reduce all the area damage your foes are so desperately trying to hit you with by 25%, which is nice. However if you are going against a crowd control-heavy enemy team or one with lots of your prime target, mages, then Cloak of Shadows is a great option to take.

Level 13

Strangle
Two Talent choices here are immediately crossed off: Death From Above and Blind. With this build you only open with Garrote to get stronger Basic Attacks on that target, therefore you should rarely to never use Ambush or Cheap Shot. So your choices are limited to an increased Movement Speed while Stealthed or reducing the Ability Damage dealt by your Garrote target. Most often the reduced Ability Damage taken is going to be the most useful. If Elusiveness's bonus got Valeera to 30% bonus Movement Speed while Stealthed then it may be worth considering.

Level 16

Expose Armor
Now the obvious eye-candy in this tier is Rupture. "Basic Attacks refresh the duration on Garrote's damage over time effect? YES PLEASE!" But you need to listen to me when I tell you this, if you play correctly then your target should be dead within the 7 second Garrote window without the need to refresh it. Expose Armor helps with that, increasing the damage of your target when you hit him or her with a full Combo Point Eviscerate. Your Attack Speed is already increased by using the same Ability, so this just combos off what we have been building already.

Level 20

Cold Blood
Despite this build being focused on Basic Attacks, Cold Blood is just too good to pass up. Doubling the damage on your main Ability is just way too strong (and quite honestly I can see it nerfed real soon). Keep in mind that if you can get a full Combo Point Eviscerate within 2 seconds of your first Eviscerate (which more often than not, you will not be able to), save Cold Blood for the second Eviscerate. Not only will you get the bonus from this Talent but also the 25% increased damage from Expose Armor. Once again though, if you are facing a team with multiple disabling effects then Enveloping Shadows is a great choice or if you just want extra reliability on an escape, so long as you picked Cloak of Shadows at level 10.

SS Build Discussion Top

This build focuses on Valeera's Sinister Strike Ability and picks Talents to maximize its damage.

Talent Choices
Level 1

Subtlety
Abilities are the main source of your damage with this build, and as such your Energy Regeneration is vital to your damage output. Rather than going around and collecting Regeneration Globes when you would be better off assassinating enemy Heroes, opening with one of the Vanish Abilities gives you an additional 50 Energy over 5 seconds on top of your current Energy Regeneration. Just remember to sit in Stealth for at least 4 seconds before going in.

Level 4

Relentless Strikes
Initiative is great in that your opener grants 2 Combo Points instead of 1 and gets you to a full Combo Eviscerate much sooner. However with a Talent later on that also grants an additional Combo Point from Sinister Strike, you would be wasting a Combo Point in your usual rotation which is a big lose of damage. Therefore, Relentless Strikes is the Talent of choice and it helps with your Energy dependency. Wound Poison is also a decent option against a team with multiple healers or against a really potent burst-healer. Pro Tip: If you apply Crippling Poison or Wound Poison with Blade Flurry, then all enemies hit receive the debuffs from the poisons.

Level 7

Mutilate
Regardless if you took Relentless Strikes or not at Level 4, Mutilate is the highest damage output considering that you can land Sinister Strike most of the time. If you cannot, then this build is unfortunately not for you.

Level 10

Smoke Bomb
Once again, being able to deal all of your damage while Untargetable and taking 25% reduced damage is amazing and even more so in this build. Keep in mind that Cloak of Shadows is a great pick when facing a team with lots of Ability Damage and/or crowd control at their disposal.

Level 13

Strangle
Garrote is, in my opinion, the strongest Vanish Ability available and I always open my combo with it. So why not reduce the Ability Damage of your target by 25% while we are at it? This damage reduction lasts for 7 seconds, so if you do not end up killing your victim within the 2 second Silence window you will not be immediately blown up. However if you are up against multiple Basic Attack-focused enemies then the Blind from... well... Blind... is a great option as well.

Level 16

Seal Fate
With the 100% damage bonus from Mutilate and the 2 second Silence or 1.5 second Stun from the opener, an additional 50% damage bonus on Sinister Strike is just perfect on your helpless targets and the extra Combo Point is perfect to achieving a full Combo Point Eviscerate right after. Strike just after a Cheap Shot or Garrote and watch the enemy's Health bar drain.

Level 20

Cold Blood
The damage bonus from this Talent is insane! A full Combo Point Eviscerate at Level 20 already hits hard, but doubling the damage it deals is... insane! Nightslayer is also a decent choice if you can manage your Combo Points effectively, and will most likely be the choice to take when Cold Blood is eventually nerfed.

TF Build Discussion Top

This build focuses on Valeera's teamfight capabilities and picks Talents to maximize her potential.

Talent Choices
Level 1

Crippling Poison
The main niche of this build is using Blade Flurry to apply both Crippling Poison and Wound Poison to multiple Heroes at once. Because Valeera has a lot of power in the early game, you can easily start ganking lone enemies and with Crippling Poison as it will be very difficult for them to escape.

Level 4

Wound Poison
Applying Wound Poison to multiple enemy Heroes with Blade Flurry will make the enemy healer or healers stress out. 50% reduced healing received for 4 seconds is a big deal, and it helps ensure your teammates secure kills.

Level 7

Fatal Finesse
Since our goal is spreading both poisons via Blade Flurry, why not start increasing its damage and eventually lower its Energy cost while we are at it? The goal is already to hit multiple Heroes with Blade Flurry so this is the most logical choice.

Level 10

Smoke Bomb
Unfortunately there is no "teamfight Heroic" choice for Valeera. The best choice is Smoke Bomb to keep yourself safe as you poison everyone in the area after you open on a target. Cloak of Shadows is also a decent option against multiple mages and/or against a team with heavy crowd control effects.

Level 13

Strangle
While the primary goal of this build is poisoning as many Heroes as you possibly can, the secondary goal is to help your teammates survive by disabling and weakening your enemies. Strangle provides just that, and Garrote is arguably the most powerful of the Vanish Abilities. However against a team more reliant on Basic Attacks, Blind is a great choice as well.

Level 16

Expose Armor
Eviscerate your target with 3 Combo Points and on top of the Crippling and Wound Poisons that should already be affecting the target, now your Eviscerate target is also taking 25% increased damage from all sources, including your teammates.

Level 20

Nightslayer
Now usually I would pick Cold Blood just because the damage is insane, however the focus of this build is not damage but rather control. Therefore a lower cooldown on Vanish, and therefore faster Cheap Shots and Garrotes (even in the middle of a fight), helps disable your enemies and ease the damage coming onto your allies. Nightslayer also allows faster getaways as your damage with this build is not particularly spectacular, nor is Valeera's baseline survivability.

Tips and Tricks Top

* Maximum Energy of 100 (without Talents) and regenerates 10 Energy per second (without Talents).
* Maximum Combo Point total of 3, and all Combo Points are lost after 10 seconds.
* Basic Attacks and generating Combo Points refresh the Combo Point timer.
* Vanish's cooldown starts after Valeera leaves Stealth.
* Stealth granted from sources other than Vanish do not grant Valeera access to her Vanish Abilities.
* Crippling Poison's Slow and Wound Poison's healing reduction when applied by Blade Flurry affects all enemies hit.
