Genji Top

Genji is an Assassin but so far i can tell he is the best finisher of the game so far. He has great mobility and the ability to get in and out of an fight with a kill. The important thing on playing Genji is on the one hand to watch your CD on Dash and Deflect. On the other hand its so important WHEN to engage. The following guides are just an inspiration on how you can play genji :)

Abilities Top

Combat Trait
You can jump to the target area. You can jump over walls.

Abilities
Shuriken (Q)
Throw 3 Shuriken in a spread pattern, each dealing 67.6 (+4% per level) damage to the first enemy hit.
Stores up to 3 charges. Shuriken's cooldown replenishes all charges at the same time.

Deflect (W)
Channel for 1.25 seconds, becoming Protected and blocking damage. Any damage blocked while channeling causes Genji to throw a Kunai toward the nearest enemy, prioritizing Heroes and dealing 57.2 (+4% per level) damage.
If you use an ability while channeling, it will cancel deflect immediatly.

Swift Strike (E)
Dash forward, dealing 223.6 (+4% per level) damage to all enemies in a line. Enemy Heroes that die within 2 seconds of being hit with Swift Strike cause the cooldown and mana cost to be refunded.

Heroic Abilities:
Dragon Blade (R)
Unleash the Dragonblade for 8 seconds. While active, Dragonblade can be reactivated to lunge forward and slash in a huge arc, dealing 249.6 (+4% per level) damage. If enemy Heroes are killed within 2 seconds of being hit by Dragonblade, Swift Strike's cooldown is reset.

X-Strike (R)
Perform two slashes dealing 140.4 (+4% per level) damage. The slashes detonate after 1.25 seconds causing an additional 280.8 (+4% per level) damage to enemies in their area.
While using you are not targetable.

Pro's & Con's Top

Pro's:
- Extremly mobile
- Nice finish
- Great escape

Con's:
- almost no waveclear
- low health pool
- very weak against stuns, roots, silences and taunt

Synergies,Counter, Maps Top

Synergies:
Genji great weakness is his low health pool and the problem of getting stunned, rooted, taunted or silenced. With Uthers Divine Shield he can engage, deal the damage to kill a target and get out unharmed and unstunable.
The frosty lady will root your enemies and make them vunerable to your dash and ult dmg so you can get in and out safely. The burst dmg of Jaina will also help you to take down individual targets.
The Moshpit is excelent way to get your enemies dancing while you are slicing you way threw them. With Stage Dive you get a decent dmg with a Tank inside the team, which will mostly distract them and give you the time to kill your target.
Zarya's ult Graviton Surge will give you the time to dash in and deal a huge amount of dmg or just standing inside and deflecting everything while killing them softly :)

Counter:
Varians Taunt is unique in this game. His ability is frightening for Genji. When Genji tries to go for his target, charge and taunt will cancel your attempt to kill and will turn genji into the pray for the enemy team.
Lunaras Poison will also be inflicted when Genji parried the auto-attack from Lunara. This means she can slow down his mobility and kill him slowly. (All kind of poison will be transferd threw the reflect.)
Malfurions Ult Twilight Dream will silence Genji immediately and will deprive him of his mobility. Always take care of an enemy Malfurion.
Murkys Octo-Grab will shut down Genji immediately and leave him helpless to the enemy team.
Mostly invis chars are tricky. Genji can mostly outplay them because of his mobility and the Shuriken. The problem for him is that even he triggers his Deflect in the right moment, Valeera can stun or silence him. Both possibilities are mostly deadly.
While beeing on of his best supporters, Uther is one of his worst nightmares. He can stun Genji when he wants to dive into the team, but more annoyingly is his heal. When you want to dash-kill your target always be aware that the Uther heal will denie this from happening. Or even worse Divine Shield will denie your kill in the teamfight and leave you midst of unfriendly people.

Maps:

Overall Build Top

The Overall Build focuses on the posibilty to deal decent dmg during the game and when reaching lvl 20 giving you the ability to stand in the enemy team to let them kill them by trying to kill you.

If you hit an enemy with your dash you will get Movementspeed. This will allow you to kite him better and also to get a distance between each other.

This quest will provide you with more Shuriken Dmg which will allow you to "nuke" or poke better. After completing the quest, jumping with your passive will grant you 2 stacks on your Shuriken. The running cooldown of your started shuriken will not be touched.

With this talent you can deflect more often, if you deflected successfully. It will compensate the lack of Genjis survivability.

With Dragonblade you will have the possibility to finally engage in the enemy team. Remember that every kill with your Blade will immediatly reset your Swift Strike/Dash.

Flow like Water will make Genji even more fun. Now dashing threw a lot of enemies will reward you with less cooldown on your Swift Strike, which will result in more engages and hopefully more dead enemies.

This Reflect improvement will make 1v1 or situations like standing in a crowd of unfriendly Characters more comfortable for you. If they focus you they will punish themself even harder while you reflect.

For this talent its a good advice to try to get as soon as possible 6,5 k DMG BLOCKED!!!! After completing the quest you will deflect all dmg like before but ALL enemies that hit you will get their dmg thrown back at themselves. This means standing in an enemy team will be comfortable for you because you will dmg them all.

Dash Build Top

This build concentrates completly on the Swift Strike ability of Genji. Its a funny way to play but you should always try to hit as many enemies with your Swift Strike to increase your dmg.
If you hit an enemy with your dash you will get Movementspeed. This will allow you to kite him better and also to get a distance between each other.

This talent will affect your Swift Strike. When dashing threw an enemie with the END of your Dash you will give him a Dot over 2 seconds.

With this talent you can deflect more often, if you deflected successfully. It will compensate the lack of Genjis survivability.

X-Strike is a really nice Dmg Ult which will makes it easy for you to Dash and Ult your target for a maximum output of dmg.

Flow like Water will make Genji even more fun. Now dashing threw a lot of enemies will reward you with less cooldown on your Swift Strike, which will result in more engages and hopefully more dead enemies.

Now every enemy hero you dash threw will increase your next Swift Strike Dmg by 20 % to a maximum of 60 %. This will help you to better kill your targeted enemy

With this Upgrade your Ultimate will get an CDR by 12 Sec for each enemy you hit, which means you can use it more often.

Overwatch Build Top

This build focuses on the playstil of overwatch (dash, shuriken and melee attack aka Dragon Claw) and is only for getting your target killed as fast as possible. But your dmg output is limited and its very difficult to play, because to get all 3 Shuriken hit one target really exposes you to the enemy.

If you hit an enemy with your dash you will get Movementspeed. This will allow you to kite him better and also to get a distance between each other.

This talent will provide you with the ability to get an active to deal AOE dmg around you after blocking a certain amount of dmg.

With this talent you can deflect more often, if you deflected successfully. It will compensate the lack of Genjis survivability. This will improve how often you can use your Dragon Claw.

This build focuses on killing one particular enemy so you need an Ult which will provide you with a lot of dmg. X-Strike is there to give you dmg and mobility.

With this talent you will get extra dmg if all Shurike hit one target. For squishy targets like Valla this mean you can really shred her very quickly.

Tipps and Tricks Top

Auto Attacks:
Genji has a special kind of auto attacks: if hes near to the enemy he has melee attacks and going away from his target he is ranged. BUT special about his auto attack is that even beeing ranged he can move while he started autoattacking. This means he can perfectly kite enemies, follow them.
So always move while attacking.

Simple Rule:

Moving = Survival = Damage

His Swift Strike:
Genji's Swift Strike is an awesome abilty because you can dash Threw walls, gates, towers. Just be sure to get behind your target, otherwise Genji will stop before your targeted destination.
Care:
His Dash can be interupted. If an root is casted and Genji will try to dash OVER it, he will be rooted in it.
Chromies Time Trap is special. If Genji dashes threw it, he will get in stasis and after leaving he will continue his travel. So be careful.

Ganks:
Genji is perfect for fast ganks in this game, because he can jump over Wall with his trait and also dashes. If you play Genji try to gank often but use your brain: Ganking a full live Anub can be devastating for you.

Mana:
Normally you would think that Genji doest need that much mana but he does. Try not to fight with low mana. You lose your mobility and your finish abilities.

Last but not least: Teamfight and Ult use
Try always to poke a bit with your Shuriken and auto attacks. Try to avoid dmg and if you have to use Deflect dont try to engage right after. Wait until you have your Swift Strike and your Deflect up to get in and out easily. Dragonblade and your full engage should be mostly the same. Which means: wait for the enemy targets to drop in health so you see your chance to kill an enemy with our Dash and ult. Than use your ult and dash immediatly after it so you dont have to do it in front of your enemy. He is lucky if an Genji is standing in front of him trying to pull his blade while he can shoot you.
