Threat Hero Notes
1
Abathur This build allows you to be an active threat to Abathur. Look for his locusts, send a W to scout, and try to snipe him twice in a row.
1
Maiev Walk towards her if she hits you with the chains. That's it. Don't group up too much and let her reset her Q.
1
Malthael I don't see enough of Malthael to give a good judgment honestly. Just don't get hit by the trail, I guess?
1
Medivh Either a baby threat or a god threat. No in between.
1
Murky You're one of the few healers who counters him quite well! Your auto attacks are high and can easily kill the Pufferfish. Try not to get locked down via Octograb, take Celestial Alignment for the DPS that does.
1
Probius I don't play against Probius to really know... I rarely struggle against him though. Attack his turrets to reset Q.
1
Sgt. Hammer Take Lunar Blaze and have fun ruining her day.
1
The Lost Vikings I've never fought them as Tyrande in all my games honestly. Free Q resets, I'd imagine.
1
Uther You out-sustain him massively and provide the same amount of CC until level 10.
2
  No Threat
3
Alexstrasza Her sustain isn't as strong as yours - unless your team doesn't capitalize on bad Alex W's. Use your stun on top of them, use your trait on her when she uses Dragon Queen.
3
Ana Annoying, but not usually too much of a threat. Easy to hit with an E if she's using her trait.
3
Auriel You out-sustain her pretty easily. Just don't linger near walls. Use your stun on her Crystal Aegis targets as they come out.
3
Gazlowe Not much to be afraid of. Watch for his ult if he takes the AoE stun.
3
Jaina Squishy as hell, and you out-heal her measly burst. Water Elemental is very annoying though.
3
Kael'thas His burst can be nasty, but the counter is always the same: spread. Consider taking Kaldorei Resistance at 7 for his Pyroblast.
3
Li Li You heavily out-sustain her, but her blind is very, very annoying.
3
Lúcio Don't bother trying to hit him with your stun. If he's dumb, he won't respect your damage.
3
Rexxar Don't face a ton of Rexxars, but Misha is a free target dummy for your Q. If you see Rexxar taking the health quest, try to pin him down to reset all his stacks.
3
Sylvanas Not a massive threat, will usually flee before you can stun her.
3
The Butcher Flare on self as he dives you. His cc immunity will end as he hit you, stun him, and you'll have a chance to walk away.
3
Yrel I don't see too many Yrel's to be honest. It's easy to stun her as she charges up though.
4
D.Va Don't 1v1 her, try to stun her as she comes out of the mech.
4
Deathwing Place trait on him and he melts like butter. Avoid the stun.
4
Li-Ming Her burst can be strong, but you can 1v1 a bad Li-Ming who misses all her abilities.
4
Lunara Respect her auto-attack damage. Shadowstalk can be useful against the DoT damage.
4
Mal'Ganis Very predictable. Flare on yourself if he goes for the stun on you.
4
Malfurion I think Malfurion tends to out-sustain Tyrande, but honestly, I don't see a lot of him. The root is rather annoying though.
4
Ragnaros Ragnaros is easy to kite, just watch for his annoying Q. You can stun him if you spot him channeling his trait.
4
Sonya Don't be afraid of her until level 10. Then try to kite her a bit more.
4
Tracer Hunter's Mark on her and she recalls. Almost impossible to stun.
5
Cassia The blind is annoying to deal with, but Cassia's are pretty predictable and the counter is almost always the same.
5
Chromie Can be annoying to deal with, but not a counter to you. Consider Owl or Blaze build to gain the range needed to deal with her.
5
Greymane Respect his autos, Flare on self if he dives in.
5
Hanzo Respect his autos. Take Celestial Alignment if he chooses the global stun ult.
5
Kerrigan Respect her. Play back and you will never be the target for her combo. If she does combo you, something is very, very wrong.
5
Leoric You're target number one for his wall ult. I like to take Starfall vs Leoric since people will crowd the ult.
5
Orphea Harder to lock down than most mages, but once she runs out of abilities, you're free to auto attack her.
5
Samuro Don't 1v1 him, try to knock him out of stealth. His mirror images are free Q resets.
5
Xul The root is rough, but his minions are free Q resets. Poison Nova is a massive bitch - please take Shadowstalk for it!
5
Zarya Don't auto her during shield. Please. For the love of God. That's the only thing you can do, or she'll be unstoppable.
6
Azmodan His burst damage can ramp up quickly, but he's rather easy to stun if he's channeling his E.
6
Blaze Annoying! But not the worst.
6
E.T.C. Good E.T.Cs won't ult unless you're in it with them. If you're not, use your E and counter him.
6
Fenix Try to stun him either before he can escape or right after he escapes. Not much you can do to specifically counter him though.
6
Junkrat Just very annoying. Try to juke the suicide ult. He'll rarely be in range to be auto-attacked though.
6
Kharazim Respect his damage. Your healing is better, but his burst is stronger.
6
Mephisto Extremely annoying - but only if you let him BE annoying. Move forward during his teleport and stun him as he comes back to his shade. It's always earlier than you think.
6
Tassadar Juke the Q, try not to get hit by the Black Hole ult. If he takes Archon, stun him and respect his autos.
6
Tychus His damage is tough to out-heal. Easy to stun in mech ult at least. Watch for his grenades if you're fleeing.
6
Valla Don't 1v1 her, respect her damage, and don't be in range for her stun.
6
Whitemane Whitemane plays a lot like Tyrande - the only difference is that she out-sustains you if your team doesn't lock her down. Stun her during clemency/inquisition.
7
Dehaka Respect the stun or die. It's pretty simple.
7
Gul'dan Take Lunar Blaze, always stun his drain. But always respect his damage as well.
7
Tyrael His dive ult can be very rough to go against. Keep an eye on the sword and make sure you're in range to stun as he teleports.
7
Zagara Tough to stun on Creep and her basic attack damage is higher than you can take. Her roaches are free Q resets, but her W minion is NOT. It is lethal and needs respect.
8
Arthas Not the worst tank you could have to deal with. But not ideal. He'll slow your auto attacks, so make sure you kite him.
8
Chen Annoying. Don't 1v1 him. Stun him if he's using his trait.
8
Lt. Morales She out-sustains you and everyone else in the game. But your burst is technically higher, and you provide more damage.
8
Mei Can be difficult to lock down due to her mobility, but easy to stun as she comes out of Iceblock. Watch for her blinds.
8
Muradin His displacement ult is a death sentence for you. Try to juke the stun, but don't bother placing mark on him. He'll just jump out before you can secure the kill.
8
Qhira Qhira's either the worst threat or a god threat. Good Qhiras will wait for you to drop Flare on yourself before going in on the stun. Bad Qhiras will do it early, be stunned, and promptly die.
8
Raynor You CANNOT 1v1 Raynor. Please don't try. Raynor is the priority kill target if he takes his gambit quest.
9
Alarak Silences are always rather lethal, and while Alarak's silence alone is not going to kill Tyrande, his displacement of her into his team will. Play back, watch for the silence.
9
Anduin His sustain is as high as yours - except he doesn't have to be out auto-attacking like you. Stun him if he takes Salvation.
9
Anub'arak Annoying. Just try to play back and juke his stuns. If you get webbed, pray your team does something. You can auto attack his locusts to reset Q at least.
9
Brightwing Her map presence is much greater than yours. Try to follow her and establish an equally strong presence or your team will feel like it never has a healer.
9
Falstad Respect his auto-attack damage. Difficult to hit, especially if he does Thunder Rod build.
9
Imperius High damage, and like Garrosh, if you're in range to auto, you're in range to be stunned. Play back and mark him when you can.
9
Johanna Johanna is always annoying. Her blind makes her more of a threat than usual, however.
9
Kel'Thuzad If you're in range to auto, you're in range for stuns. Play carefully, consider taking Kaldorei resistance if you're nervous.
9
Nova Depending on the build, Nova will be a pretty massive threat. Even if you knock her out of stealth with owl, she can use her abilities, so be careful.
9
Rehgar That slow is lethal late-game, and he'll eventually start to out-sustain you. You have better burst unless he uses his ult.
9
Stukov Out-sustains you lategame, hard to pin down since going for a stun will usually result in a silence. Lunar Blaze is decent.
9
Thrall Super annoying and oddly tanky. Juke the root or pray his team doesn't follow up. Not much Tyrande can specifically do against him though.
9
Valeera The stun is rough, and her MS in stealth makes it tough to land owls on her sometimes. Beg your team for peels because she WILL be stunning and blinding you constantly.
9
Varian His damage is off the chart even if he goes tank. Don't be the charge victim ever, and try to go for stuns as he protects.
9
Zeratul Similarly to Valeera, if you don't knock him out of stealth before he combos you, you're dead most likely.
9
Zul'jin Respect him and pray to God his ult ends sometime in the next year. Go for a stun if you think it'll help.
10
Artanis Super annoying. Swapping is a death sentence without mobility, and his shields make him tough to kill, even with Hunter's Mark on him. Both ults are a counter to you.
10
Deckard Most annoying healer. Will inevitably out-sustain you, and his roots make it difficult to safely auto-attack. Take Lunar Blaze and stun him out of his sleep ult.
10
Diablo Ugh. Just try your best and hope his team is incompetent.
10
Garrosh Annoying as all hell. Being in auto-attack range can be a death sentence for his stun + throw combo. Mark is decent against his trait at least.
10
Genji Super annoying. Massive counter to you since you need to be auto attacking, and good luck hitting stuns on him.
10
Illidan Similar to Genji. Massive counter and can delete you with The Hunt. Beg your teammates for peel. Shadowstalk can help keep you concealed against it though!
10
Medivh Either a baby threat or a god threat. No in between.
10
Nazeebo An absolute snoozefest to go against. Lategame, being hit by Corpse Spiders guarantees that you'll be dropping two charges of Light of Elune. You can hit his zombies to reset cooldown at least. Stun him if he takes the spirit ult.
10
Stitches Don't get hooked, I guess?
10
Tyrande 1v1ing is a weird scissoring match.

Disclaimer: I am not a HOTS pro player. I just play a lot of Tyrande.

In this guide, you'll find three variations of builds to run on Tyrande, as well a run-down on all her talents and abilities. You can copy these builds talent-for-talent in every game. However, I'd strongly recommend you read through what each do and tune your selection according to the game.

Every game is different, and while I'd love to run my Huntress build every game, sometimes Owl is just the better choice!

As an aside, if you're new to HOTS and wondering what Tyrande's role in the game is, she's a sustained healer who uses her auto-attacks to reset her healing cooldowns. In my opinion, she has a medium skill floor with a high skill cap.

Abilities Top

Light of Elune [Q] | Mana: 15 | Charges: 2 | Recharge Time: 16 seconds

Heal an ally Hero for 270 (+4% per level). Light of Elune's cooldown is reduced by 1.5 seconds every time Tyrande hits an enemy with a Basic Attack or damages an enemy Hero.
Stores up to 2 charges. Cooldown replenishes all charges at the same time.

Sentinel [W] | Mana: 50 | Cooldown: 15 seconds

Send an Owl across the battleground revealing its path, dealing 120 (+4% per level) damage to the first Hero hit, and revealing them for 5 seconds. If a Hero revealed by Sentinel dies, refresh its cooldown.

Lunar Flare [E] | Mana: 60 | Cooldown: 13 seconds

After 0.75 seconds, deal 150 (+4% per level) damage and Stun enemies in the target area for 0.75 seconds.

Light of Elune [Q] | Mana: 15 | Charges: 2 | Recharge Time: 16 seconds

Reveal a non-Structure enemy and reduce their Armor by 15 for 4 seconds.
Passive: Tyrande's Basic Attacks heal her for 1% of her maximum Health, doubled against targets with Hunter's Mark.

Heroic Abilities Top

Shadowstalk [R] | Mana: 75 | Cooldown: 90 seconds

Grant all allied Heroes Stealth for 10 seconds and heal them for 380 (+4% per level) Health over 10 seconds. Remaining stationary for at least 1.5 seconds while Stealthed grants Invisible.

Starfall [R] | Mana: 75 | Cooldown: 80 seconds

Deal 92 (+4% per level) damage per second and Slow enemies by 20% in an area. Lasts 6 seconds.

Build Discussion Top

Tyrande's owl build is her most popular, for good reason. Without specifically talenting into her W, the owl only becomes a tool for vision since it won't provide execute damage nor crowd control. By talenting into the owl build, you make the most of her W while still having access to her strong follow-up and sustain,

Do not sit on your owls - throw them out constantly to provide vision. Send them down the middle of mercenary camps and objectives. The owl later becomes a tool in teamfights by slowing and reducing damage to those who are hit. Look to hit two heroes with to slow them, then follow up with a Lunar Flare stun to secure kills.

My Lunar Blaze build is an aggressive Tyrande build that requires a strong frontline to combo crowd control with. Wait for tanks to engage with their own CC before following up with Lunar Flare, stacking your quest for higher damage. Later talent levels will be spent reducing the cooldown of both Hunter's Mark and Lunar Flare.

Elune's Chosen is the default talent for most players since it's simple to use and a great healing CD. However, with this build, Mark of Mending is a viable choice as well - experiment with it! Darnassian Archery is a great replacement talent if you don't need Celestial Alignment; however, it does require you to be even more aggressive.

Tyrande's Huntress build is best paired with a second support to cover the gaps in your healing. That being said, I've run this build as a solo healer before, and it isn't bad! Your damage potential is much higher than usual, and while you won't be running numbers like a Valla, you'll be more of a threat.

Darnassian Archery infinitely stacks, and if teamfights are allowed to be prolonged, you will pump very noticeable damage. Combine Huntress' Fury with Starfall to provide incredibly CD reduction on Light of Elune.
