Introduction Top
Hello, I go by the name PaladinVito and this is my first time writing a guide for a MOBA, let alone Heroes of the Storm. I'm writing this guide because a friend of mine recently asked me "HOW are you doing so much damage with her?!" after I outdamaged his
Raynor handsomely. I hadn't really been paying attention to my numbers at that point; all I knew is that I was definitely having a good time.
I've found
Tyrande to be a surprisingly fun hero to play, even though my usual play style revolves around melee. The utility and potential of
Tyrande is hard to ignore, however. Epic sight capabilities, one of the longest-range and highest-damage stuns I've seen, and some serious team-fight potential if one makes good use of her Heroic ability.
With the recent changes to her talent pool in the
Sylvanas patch and the size increase to
Lunar Flare, she's become, in my opinion, even more powerful than she was before (funny, considering I thought she got nerfed when I first read the descriptions). The range increase is now an option rather than a requirement, and
Battle Momentum usually wins out in that tier now.
One thing the
Sylvanas patch DID do was make
Tyrande a somewhat-viable healer, so now she has three distinct builds that can each be pretty successful, depending on the situation.
Finally, by no means to I claim to be an expert at this hero, nor at this game. I have been reliably successful with
Tyrande, and so I wanted to make a guide reflecting my build of her. I would also gladly welcome respectful criticism.
THE COMBO Top
I figured I would interject this small section regarding her "combo". You want to use all of these abilities within
milliseconds of each-other.
As you can see, the two are nearly identical, but the execution is where it's tricky. The second sequence is the "pro" sequence; use this ONLY if you know what you're doing and can land the
Hunter's Mark on your target
after casting
Lunar Flare, but
before it actually lands. This is slightly harder than it sounds in a real-time scenario, but it is definitely something one should strive for.
Note: This has NOT changed with the
Sylvanas patch.
Star-Struck Talent Breakdown Top
The Star-Struck build is a pure caster-style build, focusing mainly on using
Lunar Flare and
Light of Elune to greatest effect. The build is primarily damage based, but can provide impressive healing support as well. Beware of aggressive-melee or insanely-high-burst heroes.

The tier 2 talent is a little trickier. More often than not,
Healing Ward will be the way to go, but if your team has another dedicated healer like
Rehgar, then
Pierce becomes the better choice.
Battle Momentum is the better choice here the vast majority of the time. More spells equals more Awesome. If you're finding yourself getting targeted heavily, then
Lunar Blaze is an option to keep providing support from the back-line.
Ah,
Starfall. With careful use, the damage potential is Awesome. That being said, there are situations where
Shadowstalk can shine as well, but they require a very organized team and are fewer and further between.
With the adjustment to this talent in the
Sylvanas patch,
Tyrande can actually heal single targets pretty darn well, especially with the cooldown reduction from
Battle Momentum. That being said, if your team has another dedicated healer, then either
Shrink Ray or
Sprint are very good options.
The prime choice of this build,
Shooting Star changes
Lunar Flare from an annoying stun to a scary bomb, while also supplementing
Tyrande's potentially high mana-draw.
For the final talent,
Rewind is the clear front-runner for this build. Say it with me: More spells equals more Awesome.

Ranger's Onslaught Talent Breakdown Top
This build is a highly-aggressive, auto-attack based build focused on pure scrimmage ability. Maps with a lot of smaller, scrappier fights will see this build shine. While your casting abilities clearly suffer, the amount of damage you can pour into a single target is pretty impressive. Another drawback to the build is its rigidity; very little can be changed and still be effective.

An essential part of the build,
Ranger's Mark and
Huntress' Fury combo up to give you a consistent, large bonus to your auto-attack speed. I could also see going with Seasoned Marksman, but going from a 20s cd to a 12s cd is just Awesome.
Another very integral part of the build,
Focused Attack allows you to keep your damage output consistently higher without increased mana usage.
I almost always favor the damage from
Starfall over the utility of
Shadowstalk, but it's up to you.
Essential to the build (notice a pattern?),
Huntress' Fury combines with
Ranger's Mark to allow for much, much higher consistent damage.
Ah... so, so good for this build.
Trueshot Aura pushes your damage, as well as that of your team, just over the edge. Absolutely necessary.
Another must have for this build, as was the case for almost every talent.
Nexus Frenzy is just too good to pass up while doing this build. 60% attack speed via
Huntress' Fury much of the time is nothing to scoff at, especially with the bonus damage from
Trueshot Aura.

Sentinel's Reach Talent Breakdown Top
This is the evolution of the
Sentinel build from before the patch. This build, more than either of the others, was affected the most by the changes made to
Tyrande. This build favors the owl heavily to terrifying effect. Especially squishy champions, like
Jaina or
Nova can be killed from the other side of the map, leaving them speechless. General casting suffers slightly as a result, but the effectiveness of the Owl can't be denied.

As you can guess, most of the build revolves around beefing up
Sentinel, so
Empower is the clear choice here.
A must have to make this build viable for team fights, as without it you render yourself almost useless. Much Awesome.
One of
Tyrande's big weaknesses is that she has no escape.
Sprint helps out with that, while simultaneously putting more distance between you and your target for
Sentinel+
Ranger.
Ah, the keystone talent for the build. The damage increase is just insane (3x damage at full bonus). If you combine this with
Rewind and double-fire at a squishy from across the map, you'll basically instantly kill them. Awesome.
Double-firing
Sentinel and insta-gibbing a squishy opponent is a terribly addicting experience, and one which traumatizes your opponents thoroughly. Depending on the situation, an argument could be made for
Celestial Wrath, further increasing your global presence, but still... H00T H00T *dead*

Closing thoughts... Top
Tyrande is some of the most fun I've had while playing a ranged character. The instant shock-factor of her combo is intimidating at least, and lethal at worst. She shines most when she's able to buddy-up with another hero, preferably one with some intense burst damage, and hunt her prey relentlessly. Very,
very few heroes can escape
Lunar Flare once she's got her sights on someone. It's Awesome.
