This is my first attempt at a hero guide. I thought I would start one because I felt my dear Tyrande wasn't getting enough love. I've noticed a good amount of people saying that she doesn't bring much damage herself. There is a perception in which she should be played with the mentality of a utility support with sub-par healing due to the strengths elsewhere in her kit.
I want to change this perception and show you how she can be played to deal damage and surprise a lot of people in the game.
This is not a general guide on who she is and how she plays, it is more an intense look at how to kill your enemies as Tyrande.
For this I point you to the beautiful Day[9] and his words of wisdom. Sometimes the best strategy is to "Just Kill Them." Video has NSFW language in it:
There are a lot of talents to add utility to Tyrande's kit. Taking these talents to make skill shots easier, abilities cost less mana, global tower protection(mule), and more but I think she has far enough utility with her base kit. I feel as if I can make 9/10 of the same plays as I can with all the additional utility talents while also bringing more damage.
I saw a thread where people were discussing how she doesn't bring that much damage.
Her trait( Hunter's Mark) was listed as the reasoning behind her lack of damage, 'Because she makes her teammate's damage better.'
So my initial thought was, "Well how do I tell my teammates in soloque to attack my target for 4 seconds?"
And the answer is, "Its really hard to."
So I wanted to see how much I could do on my own. I looked at each talent tier and mathed/figured out which talents would allow me to best take advantage of the 4 second window I have to burst someone down.
At level 1 Seasoned Marksman is the obvious damage choice. I actually don't take it all that often when I play though. All the level 1 talents are quite competitive. And, unless I'm devoted to stacking seasoned marksman I usually only get 30+ extra damage from it by the time the game's over. It's awesome, it really is, but sometimes I want that early-game control in order to
get ahead, so I take another talent.
Ranger's Mark is awesome, especially in combination with Huntress' Fury at level 16, but Searing Arrows at level 4 remains a 25 second cooldown and so your full damage combo isn't always ready every 12 seconds.
Celestial Attunement is nice if you need to spam heals in lane and mana is an issue you run into a lot.
Pierce is the one I take the least. Sometimes it could be awesome, but it requires the enemy to stay tightly clumped in a line and I don't like to play hoping the enemy plays a certain way.
Level 4
Searing Arrows it the best choice for damage in this pool of talents. In combination with Seasoned Marksman it really pumps up your damage output!
Empower is another great, circumstantial pick. And I don't like to play hoping that I can get multiple people with my owl. I want to control the fight, not react to it. Also this talent doesn't contribute to the 4 second burst window unless you get a bizarre, tightly clumped enemy team. ALSO ALSO requires The Level 1 Talent Pierce to really make it useful.
Trueshot Aura is a great choice here. It is easy and gives your allies/minions/mercs an advantage when near you too.
Battle Momentum and Calldown: MULE are ones I pick quite a lot. I want to get my ultimate off cooldown as often as I can and Battle Momentum helps that. Mule, lets me focus on killing enemy heroes and gives me a bit of a buffer if an enemy lane pushes farther without my team's assistance.
Starfall is the easy damage choice, unless you have an insane amount of level 1's Seasoned Marksman and the level 20 upgrade for Shadowstalk.
Shadowstalk is still an awesome ability. Especially helpful against Novas, Zeratuls, Murkys, and Abathurs due to its reveal.
Level 13
Rewind is the obvious choice with the focus of this build. I can now double my damage from abilities in my 4 second window against my target.
Lunar Blaze is my least favorite of the talents this go-round because it makes landing your stun "easier." And I think I can land my stun fairly well, I don't doubt the range and area would help a lot, but I think the other talents help out quite a bit more.
Level 14
This tier is a tight race for damage. Huntress' Fury wins by a small margin.
If you picked Seasoned Marksman then it's not a contest. Huntress' Fury wins handily then with each stack of Seasoned Marksman.
If you didn't get Seasoned Marksman at level 1, Shooting Star is going to be easier to use and allows more consistency when bursting your enemies.
And finally, if you didn't get Rewind then Huntress' Fury is the clear winner again.
Level 20
Celestial Wrath is the no brains damage increase. I don't take it all that often, unless fighting an Abathur or a Murky. Its nice to kill them from across the map with two owls and a Starfall on their head/egg. (Note: Sentinel's do not damage Murky's egg.)
Hunter's Prey is a really nice burst/mobility increase for your team. Storm Shield gets better as the enemy team's composition focuses more on area of effect damage. Fury of the Storm is really nice if you find yourself having to push back a lot of creep waves on your own. I don't take it all that often.
Bolt of the Storm is the ability I take most often. It is very versatile, has a relatively large range, and a short cooldown.
Alright... calm down... here's the boring math... Also included the theoretically perfect number of auto attacks in the 4 second window, its really hard to get in all 5 (or 7), but this is whats possible.
Level 1 (Access to Seasoned Marksman but not going to calculate it) Sentinel, Lunar Flare, 5 Auto attacks.
[108 + 76 + 150 ]1.25 = 417.5 Damage
1,060 HP
1,840 HP
2,620 HP
3,400 HP
4,180 HP
4,960 HP
6,000 HP
39.34%
46.54%
49.24%
61.18%
78.95%
91.62%
94.87%
Those are Tyrande's damage numbers again then Stitches's base health at each of the level intervals and then in the final column is the percentage of Stitches total health you can remove with one 4 second window.
Its also important to note that none of these damage calculations include Seasoned Marksman. With that you can expect the damage to jump even more substantially as the game progresses.
I really hope to see Tyrande get the love she deserves in the damage dealing department. You can 100 - 0 a Stitches at level 20?!?! Woah! I don't think there are many heroes that can claim that!
Thanks for reading and I would love to hear what you think!
